CHAPTER START---

"Damn, honestly didn't expect that to work," Taiyo confesses, earning an amused smile from Geto.

"It wouldn't have, if you attacked them, but you didn't. Why?"

Taiyo shrugs. "They're weaker than me. I figured I should give them a fair shot. If they were stronger, I wouldn't have been that relaxed."

"Not picking on the weak, is that it?"

"Weak, strong, doesn't really matter," Taiyo says. "They just aren't challengers. For people like them, I'm more curious about what they'll be like if they reach the depths of Jujutsu…not that they can."

Geto raises a brow at this. "And you're so sure they can't?"

"Not me, Jujutsu," Taiyo says. "If you want either of them to reach their full potential by breaking the resonance of their souls."

"I see, and, can you do that?"

"It will take some time, but I can figure it out, and it'll help me a lot on my own journey as well, studying that resonance."

"Hmm, and would you be opposed to doing this for us?" Geto asks. "It would be betraying Jujutsu Tech after all."

"Betraying the people who sent me here under the pretense of taking down low lever Curse Users, when they really wanted me to die so Gojo would be pressured to kill you…somehow I care even less for them than I did before."

This makes Geto laugh. "Four Special Grade Sorcerers, and none of them get along with Jujutsu Headquarters. How incredible! Would you like to join me instead?"

Taiyo sighs, "Sorry but, I can't do that."

"Oh, I figured you had no love for humans, since you did kill your grandmother, right?" Geto asks.

"So you did your homework."

"When word of a new Special Grade spread about, I had to."

"Well, the reason isn't moral or anything like that. I really don't care if you do kill every human, but I just don't like how small it makes the world," Taiyo says. "It really stunts progress and Jujutsu, cutting the population by that much, such a boring little world."

"I see, and, you don't have any moral duty to stop me?"

"Ha, if anyone tries to come after you, Gojo will probably get cranky. Why do you think the higher-ups are doing this elaborate scheme?"

A hint of conflicting emotions appears on Geto's face for a moment before he pushes it down.

"Besides, so long as he's alive, your plans can't work, so I don't have any reason to get involved."

"That certainly is true," Geto says. "And, about the twins."

"I can't help you with that either, sorry."

"And why not? You just said you don't particularly care about Jujutsu Society, and that you're curious about their development."

"Both true, but if I break the resonance, only one of them will keep their connection to Jujutsu, the other one will be just another human."

Geto frowns at that thought while both girls take a few steps away from Taiyo.

"It's not something that can be forced. Jujutsu is fair, and the soul is like the engine. I can't break its connection without permission."

The girls relax slightly at that.

"Well, this leaves us in quite an uncomfortable spot." Geto crosses his arms and taps his chin, pondering what to do next. "You aren't willing to join us, you aren't willing to kill us for the higher-ups. You know about Mimiko and Nanako, and you're a Special Grade, so and one that was able to hit Satoru at that."

"How do you know about that?"

"That video of yours got around," Geto shrugs. "You're dangerous, so I think the smart thing would be to cut you down here."

"I can't argue with that logic," Taiyo says as he takes a fighting stance. "But I won't make it easy for you."

"I'd certainly hope not. But I'm not interested in killing Jujutsu Sorcerers, so how about a challenge?"

Taiyo can't help but get excited by this, so he smiles, surprising Geto.

It was almost like looking into a younger mirror, except Taiyo was much, much more dangerous for the world as a whole.

Or at least, he would be.

"Simple really, you exorcise two Cursed Spirits, and you can go," Geto says.

"Hmm, alright, teach me something."

Behind Geto black puddle of Cursed Energy forms on the floor before 30ft long swordfish swims out of it.

It swims through the air, not flying, swimming.

Creating water around itself as it swims through the air at high speeds.

Its scales were a kaleidoscope of colors and it had six eyes, three on each side of its head. The pointed nose was serrated, and within the water, Taiyo could see many smaller Cursed Spirits being manifested by it.

Taiyo watches it circle a few times before he senses another equally impressive amount of Cursed Energy, as another puddle forms behind Geto.

But this one remains dormant.

"One at a time is the most fair," Geto says. "I only really captured these because I had hoped they had some wondrous abilities, but it turns out even the Registered Special Grades are boring."

"So you were hoping they could get through Infinity," Taiyo says. "I should have guessed that, but I was under the impression that you and Gojo were a bit closer in strength."

Geto laughs, "That shows how new you are to this world. Satoru and I haven't been on somewhat even footing for over 7 years now, but even then, he was stronger. And now, he's invincible."

"For you, but I'll beat him, someday."

Geto chuckles, "And they call me a dreamer…"

With that, Geto turns and begins walking away, followed closely by the twins.

"The Curtain I set above yours will keep all of this hidden, no need to worry about that," Geto says as he summons a pelican Cursed Spirit, which they call then get into the mouth of and fly away.

Taiyo lowers his Curtain before they reach it, allowing them to leave unbothered.

Since after all, he made a deal, and he has enough to worry about at the moment.

The instant Geto and the twins leave the Curtain, a jet of water as wide as a car is fired at Taiyo from above.

He leaps out of the way and instantly fires a beam of heat at the Cursed Spirit, only for the water around its body to react and move to protect it.

The water instantly evaporates, but as it does, the liquid glows blue, raises its own defenses, and creates more water to fill the gaps.

'Okay, that's just annoying. Fear of rivers and lakes, my ass,' Taiyo thinks as he runs around the massive property, dodging streams and bullets of water.

Each carving through the dirt and stone like water cutting jets or cratering it like artillery shells.

Taiyo's heart was pumping through his ears, his adrenaline racing, his excitement at an all-time high.

This was his first time dealing with something so powerful in a serious battle, and he loved every moment of it.

"If you won't come down here, then I'll meet you up there!" he yells before rocketing into the air on two controlled thrusters of blood-red 'fire', flying toward the Cursed Spirit.

It almost seemed surprised before it dove toward him, intending to impale him with its serrated nose.

Taiyo aims forward with one hand and releases a massive blase of 'fire', blocking the Cursed Spirit's view at the last moment for him to narrowly avoid being impaled.

While the Cursed Spirit is hurtling toward the ground, he passes beside it, and putting everything into a kick, he slams his foot against its side.

The scales crack and his foot aches slightly, but the Cursed Spirit is mostly unbothered, as it creates a large bubble of water around itself before hitting the ground.

It uses the water to turn on a dime and dart back toward Taiyo.

From his position above it, he brings his hands together and fires a massive beam of heat directly at it.

The Cursed Spirit avoids the beam and swims through the air trying to flank him, but Taiyo keeps tracking it with the beam, cutting through the mansion and the lawn as if he were, well, a hot laser through butter.

Everything his beam touches is brought to such immense heat that instead of melting, the atoms separate, disintegrating the material.

This leaves a deep and perfectly cut trench in the ground as he tracks his target, which eventually turns in an attempt to spear him once again.

Taiyo stops his attack for a moment to avoid the attack as the Cursed Spirit's speed suddenly increases many stages in an instant.

He barely moves to the side, and this time as the body is rushing past him, he uses his Innate Technique on his right hand and punches the Cursed Spirit, transferring immense heat via his Cursed Energy.

The Cursed Spirit flops around for a moment. It loses momentum, and he sees a large chunk of missing flesh where his attack hit being filled in by glowing blue water before repairing itself.

He sees the Cursed Spirit circling him once more, and takes this moment to consider his options.

'Cursed Spirits can heal using regular Cursed Energy, I need Positive Energy from Reversed Cursed Technique to heal, and since I can't output enough to forcibly exorcise something this powerful, that's not an option.

I need to blast its brain apart so it can't direct Cursed Energy to repair itself, but the head is most heavily armored and always has the most water around it. This is annoying, but—'

Taiyo's thoughts are cut off as the Cursed Spirit suddenly rushes toward him once more.

This time, from the top of its nose, it fires a jet of water as big as a bus directly at him.

Accepting the challenge, Taiyo raises his hands and fires a beam to match it. But the instant the beams collide, the water spread out in the entire area, rushing to swallow up Taiyo.

He takes a deep breath, and as it rushes toward his eyes, he blinks once.

And when he opens his eyes, he's suddenly deep underwater, unable to tell which way is up or down, with natural light shining through the water from all angles.
