CHAPTER START---
---June 24th, 2014, Japan , 1 PM…
After making a short stopover at his family home, which was now fully repaired by Jujutsu Tech, Taiyo sits in the back of a black car, being driven through Tokyo, deep within Shinjuku Tokyo.
Taiyo looks out the window to see the buildings moving by, recalling everything Kusakabe told him about this meeting, everything they knew.
Registered Special Grade Cursed Spirits are missing. They've all but confirmed Suguru Geto is the culprit, but the higher-ups are too scared to act because of Satoru Gojo.
'Gojo has a serious soft spot for Geto, and since Geto hasn't done anything to hurt anyone at Jujutsu Tech directly, he doesn't care to deal with him.
Geto supposedly hates humans and wants to kill them all, even killed his parents. Attacking humans or telling them about Jujutsu is enough to get most people put down, but since Gojo is in the way, they can't.
And since I'm Special Grade, they likely want to build me as a weapon against Gojo…gaining their resources could be useful, but I'm not playing their politics bullshit if it's not useful to me.
And making an enemy of Satoru Gojo is not useful to me, so I'll just go along with whatever they want without pissing Gojo off too much.
If I need to, I'll just tell him everything and have him sort it out, or tell him I'll play along with them but never really attack Geto, he'll probably get a kick out of me draining the conservative faction of resources while giving them nothing.
But then there is the problem…Suguru Geto. He supposedly hates humans, so he doesn't kill Curse Users, and he doesn't bother Jujutsu Sorcerers, but, if they put me in a situation where we end up fighting.
Can I win?'
Taiyo closes his eyes and considers his current strength.
'Cursed Spirit Manipulation. It allows the user, Suguru Geto, to tame and absorb Cursed Spirits like Pokémon, which can be summoned at any time to fight for them. There is no upper limit because the Cursed Spirits use their own energy to sustain their enslavement, which means the user is free to operate as many of them simultaneously as they want.
Fighting him is fighting an entire army, and even if I have the firepower to immolate the entire place at once, the public will definitely notice, so I'll get shit for that.
But Geto doesn't want the public to know about Cursed Spirits and Jujutsu. He wants to rid the world of Cursed Spirits, and if people knew they existed, their negative emotions would only make more Cursed Spirits.
So his full army may be off the table, but killing him will cause the release of all his Cursed Spirits, so…capture?
But then I have to deal with his Maximum Technique, the full realization of an Innate Technique, which is second only to Domain Expansion.
Kusakabe told me it's called 'Maximum Uzumaki'. He fires all his Cursed Spirits in one blast…I can't handle that right now.
Not to mention if he uses his Domain Expansion, without my own I'd be forced to fight using Domain Amplification, but fighting an army while using that is…a disaster waiting to happen.
I can't beat Suguru Geto.
I'm a good matchup against him, but I lack the experience to handle his diverse arsenal, and the Domain Expansion to nullify him, assuming mine would win the tug-of-war.'
Taiyo opens his eyes to see they're pulling into the underground garage of a large building, appearing no different from the office buildings around it.
'Well, at least they won't be sending me to kill Suguru Geto. They aren't that dumb, I hope,' Taiyo thinks as the car stops.
The Manager, a middle-aged man, gets out and opens his door.
"Please, follow me, Mr. Daburu," the man says before walking to the elevators.
"Is this Jujutsu Headquarters?" he asks as they get into the elevator.
"No, you don't have clearance to go there, so for now you'll meet with the higher-ups in this auxiliary building."
"Yeah, I figured it would be somewhere more rural, since they hate Jujutsu and the modern world blending," Taiyo shrugs, and the Manager doesn't respond.
As the elevator stops, Taiyo feels Cursed Energy on the other side.
'A barrier,' he realizes as the doors open, and he sees the boundary of a Curtain in front of him.
He looks at it apprehensively, and the Manager explains.
"It's strictly for privacy, to prevent any eavesdropping," The Manager then gestures for him to enter.
Taiyo wipes any trace of emotion from his face as he enters the Curtain, and is greeted by five paper screen doors.
Made of red painted wood and white canvas, lit by candles from behind the screens to show the silhouette of the people sitting on the floor behind them.
Everything else was absolute darkness, and Taiyo found his sense of Cursed Energy muddied within this Curtain, making it impossible to learn the Cursed Energy signature of his hosts.
"Very culty," Taiyo says as he walks forward to stand in the middle of the five screen doors. "I came as soon as I could, mostly."
"You—" one of the men begins speaking, only to stop as Taiyo, without permission, sits in the middle of the room.
There are some low grumbles before the man continues speaking, and Taiyo stares forward with his deadpan expression.
"Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer, First Year at Jujutsu Technical College Tokyo. You have been summoned for an urgent assignment."
"I noticed," Taiyo says. "It's urgent, so skip the formalities and tell me what you want."
"Three Registered Special Grade Cursed Spirits have been stolen, by Suguru Geto," one of the men says, but Taiyo can't tell who is talking as the voice seems to be identical, and echoes around the Curtain. "We believe a group of Curse Users associated with Suguru Geto have been discovered, and are assigning you the task of capturing them."
"I see, that could have a bad ripple effect," Taiyo says. "I do that, Geto attacks us…then Gojo has no choice but to step in. Is that your plan?"
"It is not your place to consider such things," one of the men grumbles out. "You must simply do as you're ordered. That is what you are paid for."
"My regular fee doesn't cover pissing off two Special Grade Sorcerers," Taiyo says. "Especially not Satoru Gojo."
"Are you refusing?" one of the men asks.
"No, I'll do it, but I'll send you the bill after," Taiyo says. "Actually, I'll have Mei Mei tell me what to charge you after, depending on how difficult this Mission is."
He sees some of the silhouettes shake their heads, already used to Mei Mei's overpriced invoices.
"Agreed," one of the men says with no deliberation. "However, under no circumstances are you allowed to inform anyone of this Mission, especially Satoru Gojo."
"I refuse," Taiyo says. "I have to tell Mei Mei about the result to charge you properly, and I fully expect Gojo to find out, eventually. If he does, I want to be able to tell him everything. He'll obviously know it was a mission from all of you, so I'd just rather avoid pissing him off even more than this already does."
"Your terms are acceptable," one of the men says, then releases some of his Cursed Energy into the air.
"Then the Binding Vow is made," Taiyo says as Jujutsu acknowledges this contract.
"The Manager will take you to the suspected location," one of the men says as Taiyo gets up and begins walking away.
Taiyo doesn't respond, simply gets into the elevator and leans against the railing, facing the door.
The Manager hits the button to return to the basement garage when Taiyo asks.
"Where are we going?"
"Hachinohe," he says.
"Seriously…I just got off a fourteen-hour flight, and now I have to go all the way over there," Taiyo groans. "I'm charging them a bit extra just for that."
"We've already reserved a train car for the trip," the Manager says. "If you need anything, it can be waiting there or at one of the other stops for you."
"Yeah, food, and I'll take a nap on the train," Taiyo says. "Do you have an Innate Technique?"
"Oh, no, most Managers don't have Innate Techniques," the man says.
"Your family is part of the Conservative faction?"
"There is no 'Conservative Faction'," the man says, slightly annoyed. "There is only the right way, and whatever Satoru Gojo does."
Taiyo snickers as the doors open to the garage. "It's a good thing you didn't become a Jujutsu Sorcerer."
"Why is that?" the man asks as he closes the door when Taiyo gets into the back seat, then gets into the driver's seat.
"Because you have no sense of survival," Taiyo says. "Talking like that to a Special Grade that's already tired and annoyed, and who doesn't mind killing you…Yeah, you wouldn't have made it."
The man feels like cold water was poured down the back of his shirt, and looks into the rearview mirror to see Taiyo playfully smiling at him.
While the heat in the car noticeably rises before sharply falling back to normal.
"Now, give me your phone so I can order my food…"
---1 Hours Later…
Sitting in his private train car, Taiyo has his feet up, annoying his new Manager to no end.
The man was sitting at the far end of the train car, enjoying a cup of coffee while texting someone, likely the higher-ups, to relay every detail.
Taiyo enjoys another slice of pizza before he gets a text message.
'We just got back and you miss me already. I'm flattered, but I need a nap, then to get back to work,' Mei Mei's message says.
'I'm already at work, and I'll need your help writing up the bill after this, Special Grade prices, and then some.'
His phone tells him that Mei Mei is typing, then she stops for a moment, then a new message comes through.
'Dinner?'
'Hmm, seems like you're the one missing me,' Taiyo responds. 'Money always puts you in a good mood.'
'If only you had the same effect on me.'
'Ouch, but sure, I'll be back in Tokyo tonight, pick a place.'
'Wonderful, now I'm going to get some sleep, try not to die…'
Taiyo sets his phone down and continues eating, then lies on the small bed in this train car to take a quick nap before arriving at his destination…
