Chapter 25 - Coming of Age Ceremony (5)
“Grooar―!”
“Grooar?!”
Kart, who had let out a roar, charged while keeping his feet on the ground. The bear, surprised by the sudden charge, extended its four paws like hands to block, but.
Boom―!
Due to the difference in size and the low position, it couldn’t exert enough stopping power and allowed the attack.
A heavy collision sound rang out, and Kart, who had rammed the stunned bear with his shoulder, continued his charge as if lifting it up.
Boom―! Crack―!
“Grooar―!”
The bear, pushed by Kart, was forced back with its paws slightly off the ground, then tripped over the stumps it had broken earlier and fell backwards.
The crudely broken stumps became like spears, stabbing the bear’s back. Due to its own weight, fragments of the stumps were deeply embedded, causing it to howl in pain.
Kart, as if unwilling to miss this opportunity, stood on two feet, mounted the bear, and started punching with his front paws.
Boom―! Boom―!
Every time the rounded fists struck the bear’s head, the ground shook, and the impact drove the stumps deeper.
“Wow―.”
The fight between these massive beasts was exceptionally powerful, and with their similar weight classes, it felt like watching wrestling.
The situation was Kart one-sidedly beating the bear, and it was clearly advantageous, but the expressions of myself and Karakt remained tense.
“…He can’t finish it.”
“Huh? Why?”
I pointed at Kart in response to Chik-chik’s question. Kart was continuously striking the bear with his front paws, but his middle legs were idle, probably because they were an unfamiliar part.
“He’s not using two of his legs. Even if it’s advantageous now, it’ll be difficult to end it easily like this.”
“Hmm―. It’s started.”
At Karakt’s words, I turned my gaze to see the bear on the ground starting to push Kart away using its middle legs while shielding its head with its front paws.
Kart swung his front paws more violently to counter this, but the opponent, seemingly accustomed to Kart’s attacks now, caught Kart’s front paws with its own.
With their paws interlocked, Kart couldn’t easily break free, and in that moment, the bear beneath used its middle legs to push Kart away.
Forced into this interlocked position, Kart lost his means of attack and tried to bite the bear, but unfortunately, as bears don’t have wide muzzles, it wasn’t very effective.
Although Kart might have had the advantage in raw strength, the difference wasn’t dramatic, so Kart, using only two legs, was inevitably pushed back by the bear using all four.
In the end, he lost his advantageous position and was thrown off. As Kart fell, trees in his path broke, acting as a buffer.
“Grooar―!”
The bear, as if venting all its frustration, mounted Kart and started pounding his head with its front paws.
Boom―! Crack―!
The trees beneath Kart began to scream from the moment the bear mounted him, and as a result of the bear’s strikes, they started splitting one by one, embedding like thorns into Kart’s body.
“Groo!”
Kart screamed and tried to push the bear away with his front paws. But unlike Kart, the bear could use all its legs. Even though Kart interlocked the bear’s front paws in the same way, the bear didn’t care and pounded Kart’s solar plexus with its middle legs.
“Kart….”
I grabbed Lulu’s shoulder to stop her from jumping in, though she looked like she wanted to. I shook my head in response to Lulu’s pitiful gaze.
Although I desperately wanted to jump in seeing Kart being one-sidedly beaten after losing all his previous advantages, doing so would make all our efforts so far meaningless.
Lulu watched Kart with her claws digging into her palms, drawing blood from how tightly she clenched them.
After being pounded in the solar plexus, Kart seemed to have trouble breathing and started hyperventilating. Judging this situation unfavorable, he awkwardly moved his middle legs.
The middle legs, creaking as if each movement required inputting a separate command like a mechanical arm, were awkwardly raised.
It seemed like Kart was trying to push away the bear by raising his legs as the bear had done, but instead, he grabbed the bear’s side and pulled it in.
“Groo?!”
The bear, apparently not expecting to be pulled in, ended up piled on top of Kart.
Kart then turned his body to the side, flipping their positions. This maneuver was possible because Kart, having been laid on the debris of trees, was relatively higher up, making it easier to turn his body.
Boom
Soon, the bear was underneath and Kart was on top. In this reversed situation, Kart used his middle legs to press close, and the bear’s middle legs, which had been concentrated in the center from pounding Kart’s solar plexus, were caught.
Kart then inserted his front paws into the bear’s upper armpits, fixed them tightly like a vise, and crudely lifted.
Whether it was possible because he had four arms despite the immense weight, or because it felt like a person hugging another person, the bear was lifted into the air. This time, truly about to be sent flying, the startled bear struck Kart’s head with its front paws.
Thwack
The heavy front paws struck the crown of his head, but regardless of the impact, Kart moved his pillar-like legs and charged into the forest while holding the bear up.
Boom―! Boom―! Boom boom―!
The footsteps, which moved heavily due to the doubled weight, gradually sped up with each step, and when they reached running speed, Kart rammed straight into the dense trees.
Crack―! Crunch―! Cra―ck!
The dense forest broke helplessly as the bear was rammed into it like a siege weapon, striking the bear’s back which was at the front, and its already pitiful back, torn by stump debris, burst open again.
“Grooar―!”
The bear screamed in agony as the debris of broken trees pierced and dug into its wounds again, but Kart didn’t stop and kept pushing forward.
The battle between these monsters turned the dense forest into a desolate logging site as they traversed it, and their ruthless environmental destruction ended with Kart throwing the bear as if discarding it.
Boom―!
The bear, which had broken countless trees, was thrown into a clearing after briefly floating in the air. As the bear was unable to recover from the impact, Kart approached, grabbed its hind legs, and.
Whoosh―! Whoosh―!
“Grooar?!”
As Kart started spinning like doing a giant swing, the bear, which had been sweeping the ground like a broom, gradually began to rise. In the clearing where no intact trees could be found due to their destruction, the bear spun through the air, its hind legs held by Kart.
Before it could recover from the shock, the bear was made to spin through the air again. It struggled to break free but couldn’t attack Kart while its hind legs were held.
“Groo―!”
Bang! Crack―! Cru―nch―!
It was thrown, breaking the trees blocking its path as it flew. Perhaps due to the centrifugal force applied, the first tree it hit shattered into pieces and scattered in the air, and the bear flew in an arc through the forest.
It landed on its back, crushing the forest that had been intact until now due to being far away.
Perhaps because its back skin was in tatters, long branches attached to broken trees dug into its wounds, and due to its own weight pressing down, the branches were driven even deeper.
“Grooar―?!”
“Grooar―!”
The bear screamed as branches that had pierced its flesh broke and stabbed in all directions, and Kart roared as he charged on four legs―he had given up on moving his middle legs―and leaped.
As the heavy monster, easily weighing over a ton, jumped with strength befitting its massive size and slammed down on the bear, the ground shook as if in an earthquake, and the trees beneath were shattered.
“Groo―ar―!”
As if determined to end it this time, Kart pounded the bear with all his might. As his rock-like front paws continuously struck the bear’s head, its nose broke and started bleeding.
With the broken nose, its misaligned muzzle revealed sharp teeth that broke, and continued impacts caused its severed tongue and flesh to fall out.
But due to its large size, the tough creature didn’t die easily, which made Kart swing his front paws faster, as if in a hurry.
The transformation could be maintained for half a day. The sky was dyed red as the sun tried to hide beyond the horizon. It had been midday when they encountered the bear, so not much time was left.
Kart retreated from above, then threw the bear to the ground again. He then flipped the bear onto its stomach and wrapped his front legs around its neck, choking it, though it seemed he was trying to break its neck rather than suffocate it.
“Groo….”
As Kart, mounted on its back, fixed the body with his hind legs and pulled the neck as if trying to rip it off while choking it, a faint groan escaped the bear’s mouth.
“Grooar―!”
The red sky slowly began to turn dark blue. There was no time left now. Kart gathered every last bit of strength and pulled on the neck.
Crack―
After pulling for a while as if trying to rip the neck off, at some point, the sound of bones being forcibly pulled out was heard. The sound was barely audible, but because all the surrounding creatures had fled due to the chaos caused by the two monsters, it sounded louder than expected.
Only then did the bear lose the life in its eyes and go limp. To be sure, Kart grabbed the bear’s head and turned it half a circle to confirm the kill before putting it down.
He then got off the bear’s back and checked its face directly before being convinced of his victory and letting out a roar.
“Groo―ar―ar―!”
The victorious monster’s roar echoed through the desolate forest.
