Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer

Chapter 1010: Headmaster's reminder

[Eon's POV: ]

We went to the headmaster's office as soon as we finished talking about the Imp and what the president had seen in that place.

The headmaster was working when we went there, and even though we entered his office, he did not stop his work.

'It seemed important since even we could not see what he was writing on that strange paper, but we didn't prey on his matters too much.'

He was the headmaster with a lot of responsibilities and there were many things that we, students, were not supposed to know about. This might have been just one of those things so, we four just sat there as he finished his work…

"Hmmm."

And, after a few minutes, it seems like he is finally done with whatever he was doing.

"Harry."

He wrapped the letter or the paper or whatever it was into a special envelope and handed it to Harry.

And, without thinking about anything, with a simple nod, the creature vanished from the place.

"So, what brings all of you here?"

He finally looked up at all of us, and, with interest about our presence in that place, there was already concern about something presenting on his face.

"Headmaster…"

Rein perhaps saw something that concerned her in particular, but I grabbed her hand, and shook my head.

'Whatever that is, we don't have to talk about that right now.'

It wasn't going to be as necessary as what we were here for. That was more important, so the president started telling the headmaster about everything that he had seen in that place.

He told him about how he went in, what he had seen, all the data that he gathered, as well as what things that he had found out about that place.

'He told him about all those things, but, instead of having a more concerned look, the headmaster suddenly had an upset, almost angry expression on his face.'

It was an expression that we had only seen when he was looking at an enemy, or thinking about how they had done something that they should not have.

"Zodiac."

He looked at not all of us, but at the president to whom he had given this mission.

"You know you aren't supposed to tell me about your missions before you tell me about it and After I give you permission to tell you about it to the others… right?"

He was serious about this. He did not like how the president had told the rest of us about this and more than that, he seemed disappointed.

He did not like how the president had told us about this even though this was not the first time he had done that.

It was nothing new for us, but before this, we had not come to him because of a certain quest that only one of us had received.

"I… apologise, headmaster."

It was so natural for us to tell each other about the special missions that we receive from the headmaster that it was nothing new for us.

We were mostly together in most of the things that we did, be it an investigation mission or a recon mission. We were mostly together and there were many reasons behind us being together.

"It is very unprofessional, Zodiac. I don't think I have to tell you how that one apology of yours could very well result in thousands of deaths.

The rules aren't there for decorations. Even the ones that you do not take seriously are important."

The headmaster was disappointed in not just the president, but his disappointment was directed towards the rest of us as well.

It was the first time he was… looking at us with that gaze. That uncomfortable… yet, emotionless gaze.

"Cradle. I did not expect this from you."

He looked at Cradle with a particularly disappointed expression.

"As the vice president, you're not only supposed to aid him with his duties, you also have to keep an eye on him. Correct him each time he makes a mistake, tell him off when he is doing something foolish… you did not do that this time, and I know for a fact this was not the first time you had done that."

His voice was heavy when he was talking with her. It seemed like he was not only angry and disappointed by her behaviour, he was also feeling betrayed.

"I understand these two are not like the rest of the student council members. They are special, yes. But they are still just members of the council while the two of you are the ones who are to guide them. Find your next read on empire

You are the ones who have to be the role model for these two as well as the rest of the members of the council, and yet…"

He shook his head with disappointment.

"This is, was, and will always be inappropriate."

The president was looking down, same with the rest of us. We could not look him in the eyes. He was not being intimidating… but he was right.

'It was not professional at all.'

We had been overlooking something very important ever since we faced those evil cultists in Lakmer… we were still simply members of the student council while the two of them were presidents.

We weren't anything special.

'Just like the rest of the council members, we were also simply members of a special force that was working under the direct command of the headmaster for this academy, as well as for the maintenance of peace and stability in this world.'

We were getting rewarded for each and every single thing we do in various forms so it was mainly a transactional relationship.

'The missions, requests, tasks, quests… whatever we call it, were not simply things that he was asking us to do.'

We were helping him with things that we could do well, and even though that relationship had changed for the two of us, even though the reward and task thing wasn't simply as it was for the other council members, we are still the council members.

"You don't have that long, I know. I know you don't have much to do here either… once their exams end and they come back from their break, the first thing they will do would be saying a goodbye to you two… but that does not make your positions any less important than what they were before."

They were still the presidents.

And as presidents, sharing any kind of information regarding the task that they had received from the headmaster without his permission was not something they should do.

There were in fact consequences to this inappropriate behaviour. Punishments that could very well ruin the rest of the carriers that the presidents have.

"Boredom is the first step towards stangency. But the second step is carelessness."

The headmaster…

'For a while, with the closeness of our unique relationship, I had almost forgotten how we were still bound by a contractual relationship.'

If the president and vice president were making a mistake, we also had the obligation to correct them. But we did not do that in this case either.

"Lucifer and Uriel."

"We apologise as well. We should have been more careful…"

"This is mainly your fault, you know? We became like this because-." I had no choice but to cover her mouth while she was saying that.

She was speaking up again even though the headmaster was being considerate enough to take the uniqueness of the situation into account.

"We will be careful next time."

"So you're saying that there will be a next time this happens?" His question came instantaneously.

But I was prepared for it.

"As things stand, headmaster, we have long past the point where we could maintain the textbook student council dynamics.

As Uriel said, it was not only us who have made a mistake… you are also partly responsible for it."

President, Cradle, even Rein was surprised by what I just said. But my voice was firm. And I was looking at the headmaster right into the eye.

"We will be careful nothing like this happens, but the two of us are going to stay here for a little longer than President and Vice President Cradle.

We do not know what happens while we are here and what other things we have to do in the time that we will be here, but the way this Relationship of ours has developed until now, I am pretty sure following the rules and regulations that was originally made for the council by Our predecessors isn't going to be applicable for us to the extent that it is required of us."

He knew all this better than the rest of us. The reason he had reminded us of this whole 'rules' and the right things was exactly because he wanted us to remember what We all actually were.

"There have been times throughout the history of the academy where the council had to operate differently from the usual set rules and regulations.

And as we all know by now… we are one of those exceptions."

So, he can expect us to be thorough with our duties and follow the roles that we were given but we won't be able to work like the typical student council.

"You're a headache sometimes, you know?" He shook his head with a defeated smile, and sighed deeply.

"I know. And I'm sure the three of them know as well."

Yes, the president made a mistake by telling us about his 'mission' but this task was given to him simply because he was getting bored sitting in the academy doing pretty much nothing.

It wasn't like the typical tasks in the first place so, even the headmaster had no right to sell him over something that wasn't officially a 'task' from him.

"Anyway…"

He wanted to remind us of the roles that we all have, perhaps try and teach Rein and me about the council and the rules so that we don't make any mistakes after the president and Cradle are gone.

And he surely succeeded in what he was trying to do… just that I brought down the intensity of his success rate below what he was expecting.

"Tell me more about that underground place."

The scolding was over, and the rest of them were pretty surprised by the new defeated look that the headmaster had.

'But, it was better than the disappointed look that he had a while ago.'

So, they didn't say anything about anything else and simply went back to the main topic at hand like all that scolding had not happened at all.

'And, it was for the better.'

Taking the seriousness of this matter into account, we did not need internal drama right now.

This was something that might very well decide the future of our world.

Or perhaps… something that would decide the fate of all the living beings present in this world.
