Chapter 11: The otherworldly inn

I had three CUs, and I have a deadly trap that can kill even Direwolves. And I fully intended to use it in this tavern if anyone crossed the line with me.

I'm already hungry and frustrated; a murder or two to my name won't be a big issue if I play my cards right.

'The laws and regulations here are pretty different anyway.'

I used to write codes and codes of guidelines and rule books; I can bypass whatever they have in place with certain loopholes that they are bound to have.

I was one catcall away from turning this place into a Direwolf graveyard simulator… but apparently, fate sent me customer service instead.

"Hey! No harnessing in my inn, you drunks!" A rather childish voice shouted from the other side of the room, and something pretty unexpected flew all the way to us.

"You bunch!"

She zipped through the air like a sparkler on steroids, wings leaving a faint shimmer in the smoky tavern light.

"Get your drinks, talk, shout, scream, curse, but harassment is banned here! I'll throw you all out if you keep it up!"

There was a certain dominance in this low-pitched voice. One can think of a fantasy fairy shouting at three drunks, because that's exactly what's going on here.

"Answer me! Do you understand, huh?!"

Cute? Yes. Terrifying? Also yes.

She was tiny. As small as my palm, I guess.

My curiosity triggered my instincts, and I raised my hand as well, sizing the creature up with my palm.

One slap and she'd be fairy dust… except my gut screamed she could probably suplex me instead.

Thankfully, she didn't notice me.

"Umm…"

"I told you! Why can't you all just listen to me!"

"What's up with this tiny-."

"Hey! That's the owner, you dumbass!"

The other two, alongside the three drunken dumbones, didn't seem as clueless as the rest of them.

They called the fairy with a translucent green pair of wings the 'owner' of this place, while the other one was visibly tense right now.

It seemed like they knew the consequences of crossing her, or perhaps they really didn't want to get kicked out of this place.

"Hmph! If you understand your mistake, then apologise to the lady." She wasn't just asking them to do it; the deep red eyes glowed with an eerie glow when she demanded an apology.

The five, including the ones that had done nothing, straightened their backs as if they had seen a ghost, and on instinct, turned their heads in my direction.

"I-I… I apologise!"

"We… we didn't mean to, I-insult you!"

"We're sorry!"

The terror was real. They did not want to go any further.

'Wow. I need to learn this red eye trick. Imagine making HR meetings back home this efficient.'

I kinda understand why Riddle suggested this place. It seems like the boss lady is quite the bigshot around the area.

"Hmph, that's right. No harassment allowed in my inn." The fairy, dressed in a tiny but attractive purple dress, one so pretty I wanted to hold her in my hand and feel it, raised her nose in triumph.

The red light in her eyes vanished as well, and with a bright smile on her face, she looked at me once again and saw my confused expression.

"I'll apologise on their behalf as well, Miss. Welcome to the Traveler's Inn ~. How may I help you today~?"

She was a cheerful one. Now it makes me wonder why the five of them were so terrified right now.

"Hello, Miss Owner. Umm, Riddle asked me to show you this thing so you'll understand." I wanted to talk with her a little more, but before that, I took out the golden card Riddle gave me before she sent me here.

I needed accommodation for the time I'm in this city, and I totally intend to stay here until I'm familiar with this world.

Inns don't usually give out rooms for months, so Riddle suggested this place and gave me what seemed like her own ID card, telling me the owner would understand what I wanted.

"Ohh! Is that from Reddy? Why didn't you say so earlier~?" The fairy instantly got excited and dashed towards me.

Then, she took the ID from my hands and slammed her face into the metallic card as big as her own body, and then nodded frantically.

"Hmm! Hmm! I understand! Come with me~. Oh, what did you say your name was~?" She grabbed one of my fingers, and believe me when I say it, that grip was as strong as a Formula One car on a long straight.

The way she pulled me did not make any sense— it seemed like a 6'6" baddie was pulling me by finger!

"Umm, you can call me Aria." She was cute, but I was kinda scared of this one.

The black guide didn't have anything on the fairies, at least there was nothing about them in the material I've read until now.

This one seemed strong, strangely so… and after that experience alone, it was understandable why those guys were so scared of her.

"Aria? Wow~. Your name is as pretty as you~." She started pulling me again and led me towards the other side of the inn.

"Mike, take care of the things here. I'll show our new VIP her room." There was a guy, one with long pointed ears, cleaning a glass with a napkin, clean clothes, fine shyt, long hair tied back, tall— yeah, definitely a catch.

But I couldn't admire that piece of beauty as the fairy pulled me towards the stairs and led me all the way to the top floor, stopping only when we were in a long corridor that seemed a little too long for the inn size I had seen from the outside.

"Since Reddy sent you, I don't think I'll have to worry about money. We just had a perfect room available. Good thing I won't have to give it to one of those rich foreigner jerks."

Leading me to a certain room, without me having the chance to say anything at all, she opened the door and dragged me inside what seemed like a… a penthouse.

"The normal rooms don't have a constant water supply, and you have to share the washrooms with the floor residents. But this place has two bedrooms, a big bathroom, three washrooms of different styles, water, and you can ask to bring your food to your room.

We have other special services for our special guests, but you can read the features guide over there."

The fairy was saying something, but my ears had blocked all the sound.

My mind was lost in the beauty of this place… I really didn't expect this.

"Wow."

There was a glass wall on the other side of this room, the entire city below visible, with the dungeon in the centre being the highlight of the view.

The night sky with a hundred times more stars was present in its full glory, the three moons adding a new charm to this fictional sky.

The room was filled with costly-looking furniture. This wasn't your everyday stuff… it seemed like the top catalog items of IKEa.

There was a rich scent to this room. I can see a literal pool when I move to the other side of the room, on the left side.

The bedroom was big, the washroom was as clean as it could have been… the most surprising thing? They had the flush!

"Just wow." I didn't care what fortune I had to pay for this room, but this was going to be mine.

I don't even care if I have to go broke with this one. This was a necessity!

"Huhu, good one, right~? We only have five others like this. There aren't many people who pay 300 Coins a night just to stay in some inn anyway."

Three hundred coins a night. My wallet whimpered, but my heart screamed, 'Shut up and take my money!'

"This is good. I can have it for a few months, right?" I think they also have some system in place that's keeping the inside of this place cool. That just adds more value to it.

"You can have it for as long as you want, Miss Aria~. Oh, if you don't want the hassle of paying every single day, we can arrange a weekly or monthly payment method as well. Just tell me whatever you'll be comfortable with~."

That right there was the greed of a merchant. She had smelled the money, and since I came with the recommendation of the city's guard captain, she knew how to treat a special guest like me.

Also, I think they are friends from how she's referring to her. There shouldn't be many who can call the city guard captain's name so casually.

"That sounds great. Then, can we do a three-month payment upfront? Oh, will I get a discount if I do that?"

Gold coins appeared in her eyes as soon as she heard my words, and she knew she had made the right bet.

"Of course, dear customer~! A discount should be obvious~!"

This is an investment. I'll need money for a lot more things and ways to earn more going forward, but if what I get for that amount is this kind of place, I don't really mind it.

Plus, with a fairy as strong as her protecting this place, it's far better than an apartment.

'I'd choose a luxurious inn over a box apartment any day.'

A Direwolf couldn't get me here. Poverty might, but at least I'd die in silk sheets.
