Chapter 75
Wings Guild building.
Da-young gently twisted her wrist and tilted the kettle.
Hot water flowed down in a fine stream, slowly moistening the coffee grounds on the dripper in a circular motion.
The subtle aroma emanating from the ground coffee filled the lounge.
During the lunch hour, the time for Si-hyun’s promised visit was approaching.
Da-young watched the coffee filling the server leisurely.
‘It’s about time she arrives.’
Checking that the calculated amount was filled, she carefully removed the dripper.
Just then, the lounge door opened, and Si-hyun along with a few men walked in.
“Master! Si-hyun is here!”
“Hello.”
“Si-hyun is here?”
Da-young greeted Si-hyun warmly, shaking hands. Although they had exchanged messages for work, it had been a very long time since they had seen each other face-to-face.
Showing her delight, she shook Si-hyun’s hand enthusiastically.
“Just in time, the coffee’s ready! How do you like your syrup?”
“Just a bit of vanilla syrup, please.”
“Got it!”
While Si-hyun sat down on the lounge chair, Da-young swiftly prepared coffee and snacks.
The male guild members went back outside to move items.
Request supplies were stacked neatly in one corner of the lounge.
Once everything was ready and everyone seated, Da-young observed Si-hyun quietly.
She tasted the coffee cautiously but struggled to drink it properly.
‘Did I brew the coffee wrong?’
Da-young blew on the coffee and took a sip.
It tasted just like she usually enjoyed.
There was no problem. At least not for her.
“Is it possible that the coffee beans aren’t to your taste?”
“…Ah, it’s not that. I just had really spicy jjambbong for lunch.”
“Aha. Do you like spicy food?”
“Hmm… I used to, but I’ve gone off it, and now I want to like it again.”
“…Huh?”
Da-young tilted her head in confusion.
She didn’t quite understand what she meant.
Si-hyun blew on her coffee again and drank. It seemed she liked the unique aroma of drip coffee as she smiled pleasantly.
Da-young chuckled to herself as she savored her coffee.
‘Well, at least that means the coffee isn’t a disaster?’
She was relieved to know her carefully prepared coffee was not bad.
Seeing Da-young like this, Si-hyun scratched her cheek apologetically and glanced around the lounge.
Since everyone was familiar, it was easy to notice who was missing.
“Did everyone go off to work? Han-gyeol isn’t here either.”
“Oh, about that!”
When Si-hyun asked, Da-young clapped her hands in excitement.
“It’s thanks to you, Si-hyun! Just recently, two of our kids leveled up to C-rank!”
“Wow, really?”
“Hahaha! That’s us!”
“Hahaha! It’s all thanks to you, Si-hyun! Thank you!”
Two male guild members in the lounge puffed out their chests proudly.
These were the spear master and archer who had entered C-rank dungeons together before.
Both were beaming with smiles.
“The other two went to the dungeon with Han-gyeol. They were fidgeting, saying they want to level up quickly!”
“Aha!”
As Da-young laughed out loud, Si-hyun smiled back brightly.
The Wings Guild had such a wonderful atmosphere.
Bright and cheerful energy.
Just being together made happiness bloom.
……It made her think about the guild that bothers such people.
If the chance arises, she thought she’d have to teach them a lesson.
“Shall we start the equipment test soon?”
“Oh, sure.”
With a gesture, Da-young indicated to a male member, who brought a box over to the table.
Da-young pulled out the VR device from the box and began to explain the functions one by one.
Si-hyun listened attentively, savoring her coffee.
“…So, I made it as ordered? But this is my and the collaborative team’s first time making something like this…”
“Yeah, as long as it works fine. The maintenance will be handled by Wings, right?”
“Of course, that goes without saying.”
After a light-hearted conversation, Si-hyun recorded a short video.
Two men put on the device as they watched the video.
The VR device responded even better than Si-hyun had expected.
No, it exceeded her expectations.
“Whoa! This is from Si-hyun’s perspective!”
“What an emotionally stirring viewpoint! Whoa, whoa!”
“…Uh, what is that?”
Si-hyun couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
The two men with the devices were excitedly replaying the video.
Da-young teasingly scolded them, saying, “Stop overreacting!”
Only then did the chatty men quiet down.
But they still looked thrilled.
“Master! Can’t we make this too? It’s so fun!”
“I didn’t even feel motion sickness!”
“Oh dear, guys! This may look like this, but it’s really expensive. And if it’s not finished like Si-hyun just did, we can’t use it.”
At Da-young’s words, the two men drooped like sad puppies.
Si-hyun felt a lingering smile escape as she turned to Da-young.
“Oh, by the way, Da-young, I have something to ask.”
“Hmm? What is it?”
“It’s about the Academy’s academic information system. Can I add your name in my contacts?”
“Um, well…”
Da-young, who had been cheerful the whole time, suddenly hesitated and closed her mouth.
Si-hyun, who thought she would readily agree, felt a bit confused.
‘Was I over-investing if we’re only in a business relationship?’
She felt a bit down.
After thinking it through, she realized she had initiated the closeness.
‘…Maybe it’s because she doesn’t call me sister.’
Feeling slightly gloomy, she lowered her head.
Should she drop her stubbornness even now?
Pronouns and all that.
It might not be a big deal once it happened.
‘…Huh?’
As Da-young hesitated in answering, she noticed the changes in Si-hyun’s expression.
Surprised, she quickly explained.
“Si, Si-hyun! It’s nothing else, I’m just worried!”
“…What? Worried?”
“Um, you see, you heard, right? We’re a guild that established independently from a large guild.”
“Oh, yeah. I heard about that.”
“I’m just worried that if I add my name, you might end up being bullied too.”
“Ah…”
Si-hyun’s expression brightened.
So it wasn’t that she did something wrong.
With a cheerful smile, she continued speaking.
“So I can add you now?”
“Well, of course!”
Da-young readily accepted.
That contacts infrastructure was beneficial not just for Si-hyun but also for Da-young.
She was just worried, so she hesitated.
“Hehe, I look forward to working with you in the future.”
“And we too, really look forward to working with you!”
Si-hyun and Da-young shook hands vigorously.
The two men nearby watched for a moment before turning their attention back to the VR device.
They were still envious.
* * *
After visiting the Wings Guild, Si-hyun had been busy.
She met regularly with Ah-reum for personal guidance and started creating audiovisual materials for the VR device.
She also met Ji-a, who had a scheduled business trip, to go through dungeons and share meals.
A week passed in no time.
Then came the day for the cultural lecture. Si-hyun arrived at the Academy earlier than usual.
Next week was the Academy’s midterm exam period.
Si-hyun had asked the president for advice, which made it easier for her to create the exam questions.
When she asked if she could request a review, the president readily agreed.
So today, Si-hyun, who arrived early, headed to the President’s Office.
[Academy President’s Office]
Knock knock——
– Yes, please come in.
Si-hyun slowly opened the door and stepped inside.
A woman in her late 30s, holding paperwork, looked up.
Si-hyun greeted politely.
“Hello, President.”
“Oh, Si-hyun. I’ve been waiting for you. Come and sit here.”
The president warmly invited Si-hyun and moved to a consultation desk.
Si-hyun took a polite seat opposite her.
“You requested a review to see if the questions were made well, right?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“Let’s take a look, shall we?”
Si-hyun took some papers from her bag and handed them to the president.
Receiving the papers, the president lightly glanced over the questions.
Si-hyun sat with her feet neatly together, back straight, and both hands neatly resting on her thighs, awaiting the president’s response.
“Hmm…”
“……”
The president narrowed her eyes and made a small pondering sound.
Si-hyun felt a rising tension and stiffened her posture.
Right then.
Knock knock——
Someone gently tapped on the President’s Office door.
“Yes, come in.”
With the president’s reply, the door opened, revealing a strong-looking middle-aged man.
The man turned his gaze toward Si-hyun, showing a look of apology and said, “Oh dear, President, I seem to have come too early?”
“No, it’s actually perfect timing.”
The president smiled lightly as she introduced the man to Si-hyun.
Once the introductions were complete, the man smiled and extended his hand toward Si-hyun.
“Nice to meet you, Professor Jung. I look forward to working with you.”
“…Likewise, I look forward to working with you, Professor Park.”
Si-hyun replied with a light smile and shook hands.
Although it was their first direct greeting, she recognized his face.
She had seen him a few times while passing near the gym.
Professor Park was a B-rank Hunter responsible for one of the Academy’s majors, swordsmanship.
“Si-hyun, even though Professor Park looks like that, he’s very capable with administrative work. How about having him review the questions with you?”
“…Is that alright?”
Si-hyun turned to look at Professor Park.
Professor Park smiled warmly and responded.
“As long as it’s okay with Professor Jung.”
Si-hyun took out another piece of paper and handed it to the man.
Thus, the two professors began reviewing Si-hyun’s questions.
……A little later.
“…The questions are very well made!”
“Very neat. I think the validity of the questions is excellent too.”
“…Really?”
As the compliments from the two professors continued, Si-hyun’s tense face bloomed with a smile.
The president watched Si-hyun lovingly and spoke.
“I was right to trust Ji-a’s recommendation. Si-hyun, you’re a natural as a professor!”
Si-hyun felt a bit embarrassed with the president’s praise.
It was nice to receive compliments for her hard work, but calling it a natural fit felt a bit excessive.
However, this was just the beginning of a praise deluge.
“It seems my eyes didn’t deceive me! Isn’t that right, Professor Park?”
“Haha, indeed. I sometimes overhear my students talking about the Introduction to Monster Studies. They always find it fresh.”
“Really? Students are the most accurate judges!”
The president drew Professor Park into the praises, making Si-hyun the center of admiration.
Professor Park naturally followed the president’s lead.
“We’re so grateful to have such an outstanding instructor in the Academy!”
“It’s not easy to ask others to review. Your enthusiasm is admirable too.”
The compliments kept pouring!
Eventually, Si-hyun’s face turned as red as a tomato.
Feeling the heat rising, she fanned her face to cool down.
With her other hand, she fidgeted out of confusion of what to do.
Finally, the president and Professor Park stopped their praise.
They watched the cute young instructor shyly lower her head in such an endearing way.
Slightly turning his head, Professor Park silently asked the president with a glance.
‘President, is this enough?’
The president nodded.
The capable young instructor should set foot on the proper professor route!
Professor Park was equally caught in the president’s web.
“…Um, the lecture time is approaching.”
“Oh dear, has it already been that time? Hurry and go!”
In the end, Si-hyun chose to flee.
The president gave a warm smile while glancing at the wall clock.
There was still ample time until the lecture. She thought he was such a cute young person.
“Thank you both for helping me today.”
“Hehe, please reach out again if you need help!”
Having reclaimed her papers, Si-hyun left the President’s Office.
The president and Professor Park watched her retreating figure with satisfied smiles.
“Professor Park, let’s take the opportunity to get some work done too. We need to spin some webs.”
“Hahaha! Take it easy.”
Professor Park made a wry smile at the president’s request.
Meanwhile, Si-hyun.
She stepped brightly with a fresh smile.
Choosing to flee from the President’s Office due to embarrassment, she still felt refreshed.
‘I received compliments!’
Unconsciously, she found herself grinning.
Reflecting on her decision to enter the Academy, she recalled one of her dreams while watching Momobin’s broadcasts.
Building relationships based on recognition and mutual cooperation!
It was coincidental, but thanks to the president, she had also networked with Professor Park.
She felt she had taken a step closer to being an ideal professor.
With her spirits uplifted, Si-hyun moved on with lively steps.
In no time, she arrived at the building where the lecture hall was located.
‘…Hmm?’
As she entered the building, Si-hyun spotted students murmuring in the hallway.
They were engaged in conversation while staring at a poster on the bulletin board.
Curious, Si-hyun approached the students.
Looking at the poster that had captured their attention.
[S-class Hunter Kang Cheol-min from Cheongrim Guild’s Special Lecture!]
A massive figure with an arrogant expression and posture dominated the poster.
The students were conversing amongst themselves.
“Cheongrim Guild is famous for pushing promising recruits up, right?”
“I heard the same. Should we go check it out?”
Si-hyun listened to the students’ discussion while tapping her cheek with her finger.
The details in the corner of the poster caught her eye.
Free of charge.
Any Academy-related personnel can attend.
‘…Should I attend this?’
Si-hyun checked the date.
The special lecture was scheduled for the week right after the midterm exams.
