Into the healing farming game

CH 11 - Day 13 of spring

13th Day of Spring

Skipped today’s mining day.

The afternoon schedule was completely empty.

First of all, the short-term goal of making a smelting furnace and mining a lot of iron ore has disappeared.

If I do not solve the problem of pain that occurs when reaching the intermediate level, mining and farming will be pushed back indefinitely. So, my goal current , was to search the village for painkillers or other means to relieve the pain.

“Painkillers? I don’t know. I think it would be best to go to an alchemist or a temple for that.”

“It’s about pain relief… Go see the wizard in town.”

It’s not a pharmaceutical, pharmacy, or hospital. It was alchemy, magic, and temples.

From those words, I clearly felt that this was a ‘medieval’ setting where a part of modern civilization had been transplanted.

During occasional conversations, there were often aspects where common sense seemed to go against the grain, and I think that’s where it came from.

The information was all similar.

In the end, all information comes from temples or wizards.

It ended up being an alchemist, but it was fortunate that there was a wizard residing in this village.

The forest west of town. Wizard’s Tower.

After receiving information that I could go to a wizard named Gilbert, I was moving in that direction.

The game’s image of a stone tower was gone.

What greeted me was something with various mechanical devices attached to it, looking like something from an animation.

Wizard’s Tower.

If you become a wizard, this is where you will live. I thought it was unusual in many ways.

The thin lower part. The deformed structure, which became increasingly larger as it went up, took a form that seemed to ignore some of the laws of physics.

I stood at the small wooden door and knocked loudly.

Wow—

A deafening sound, as if the hinges were not greased, greeted me. There was no one behind the door.

“Come in.”

A small voice that seemed to come from very far away.

Between old and profound. That vague, low voice led me inside.

Unlike the exterior, the interior was clean. The sense of space was also quite different.

It seemed like something magical.

I was greeted by a bright, open study room between the narrow doors, as if some sort of space-expanding magic had been applied.

The end of the study that looked like an office.

I could briefly see the stairs leading up to the side, and a man sitting on a chair was quietly staring at me.

Gray beard.

Silver hair neatly arranged and slicked back.

Not an old man like a grandfather, but a young wizard, Gilbert.

The only similarity to the existing character was that he had a beard, so he didn’t seem to match.

“Hello.”

“Are you the farmer who just moved here?”

“Yes. My name is Minho.”

“Nice to meet you. I’m a wizard who builds towers and protects the village. My name is Gilbert. Nice to meet you.”

The unique scent of books.

Should I say that it is the unique scent of paper?

In the study filled with stale paper dust, Gilbert got up and approached me.

Suddenly, he held out his hand and touched mine lightly. Contrary to his youthful appearance, his wrinkled hands were quite unusual.

“Anyway, what’s going on?”

“I’m looking for painkillers. Is there any way I can get some?”

“Do you have a chronic illness?”

“No. Necessary work arises. I often go into mines or dungeons.”

To alleviate the pain that comes from reaching the intermediate level. Rather than retelling the story of a system that is difficult to understand, it is more intuitive to explain that it is because of entering the mine.

It’s easy to persuade with that reason.

“Hmm.”

Gilbert stroked his beard smartly a few times, then slowly opened his mouth.

“There are a few ways.”

“Is there a way?”

“For a wizard, not having a solution is like a problem without an answer. Are you a bit of a drug user?”

“Huh? What do you mean…”

The sudden conversation about drugs made my body lean back instinctively. It was a rejection reaction.

“It’s the easiest option. Narcotic painkiller. Sometimes used for emergency patients. It’s a method favored by temples. There’s nothing to be scared of.”

Frequently used in temples.

My head was dizzy from that strange sense of disconnection. The difference probably arises from the gap between medieval knowledge and modern knowledge.

I didn’t want to become an addict. The daily life of a drug addict, with frequent use turning into daily use, was a very difficult future.

“Hmm… Is there any other way?”

“Huh? It’s the most convenient way, but isn’t it good?”

“If possible, I want to make sure there are no side effects.”

“Well, you know, if you want to do something easy, it’s going to take a lot of effort and cost.”

“I want to keep all options open.”

“That’s a wizardly way of thinking. It’s great.”

Gilbert smiled slightly. Soon, he took out an empty glass bottle from a drawer on the table and gently pushed it towards me.

“Are you resistant to poison?”

“Poison?”

This wizard’s choice becomes deeply questionable. Drugs and poison. Is it really okay for me to trust this wizard? Or are all wizards just perverts who ask strange questions like this and enjoy the reactions of others?

“Bring me the venom from the dungeon red sea spider. Just bring it, and I’ll make you a neat painkiller. It would be good to fill a glass bottle. That’s about three doses of painkiller in one bottle.”

“Can I hunt in the dungeon myself?”

“That’s up to you. Buy it or get it yourself. I don’t have any materials. I can do it easily, so I’ll just do it without getting paid.”

If you just get the ingredients, he will make painkillers. I felt relieved that the method existed, no matter what. I was also grateful for the wizard’s favor. In any case, it was like giving an unpaid favor.

“Is that the end?”

“I like it. Prudence is a very good virtue for a wizard.”

Gilbert took out something more from the drawer. Black, sticky stuff. Something close to slime had the shape of a flowing solid.

“It is possible to make people forget about pain, and it is also possible to paralyze them. This is a painkiller that takes the form of paralysis. Hmm, it is not often used on ordinary people, but it looks like you are considering several options anyway. This is the last option. There are only three types of magic that I know of, but I can’t go with you.”

An interesting smile formed on Gilbert’s lips.

Anyone could see that he was happily waiting to see what my choice would lead to.

“Are there any side effects from that?”

“The length of time the paralysis lasts varies depending on the resistance. The paralysis lasts for as little as a day and as long as a week. It’s originally used against large monsters.”

“A week?”

“According to the experiment results, yes. Well, isn’t it different for each person?”

“What about the poison one?”

“You mean side effects?”

“Yes.”

“If your poison resistance is strong, the medicine won’t work as well. That’s all. It’s a clean and effective painkiller. Since the ingredients are hard to find, there are no side effects except for the expensive ones. That’s why I told you to get the ingredients

“I’ll take that.”

“Would you like to get the ingredients?”

“Yes.”

“I can wait as long as you want. But don’t come here too late. The tower is always open to villagers.”

“Thank you. I’ll bring it to you in this glass bottle.”

“Yes. Be cautious, young man. I hope you return safely.”

I passed through a study filled with the smell of paper and left the tower.

That wide study opens up once you pass through that narrow door. The strangeness of magic clearly had a mystery that could not be found in the development of science.

I liked that I somehow found a solution.

The priority was to enter a new place called a dungeon or do something to get the poison of the red sea spider.

Returning to the village, I searched for poison, similar to how I had searched for painkillers. Unfortunately, no one knew about the poison from which painkillers are made from.

No one knew where to find it or how much it cost.

So in the end, there was only one option left. The only way left was to go to the dungeon for battle.

The day ended pretty quickly because I was running around so much. It was a bit odd to go to the mine.

It was difficult to enter the dungeon unprepared. In the end, all that was left was fishing.

I trudged to the lake to enjoy night fishing for the first time in a long time.

The Wizard’s Tower is in the western forest, at the end of the border. The place to enjoy fishing is the northeastern lake.

They were quite far apart. Thanks to this, by the time I arrived at the lake, dark blue rippling waves greeted me.

I turned on the scarlet lantern.

I’m not sure how much fuel is left. In fact, since there is a light ring, it doesn’t really matter whether it is a lantern or not, but there is a romantic feeling that comes from the unique light of a lantern.

I planned to use it continuously until I ran out of fuel.

Sabak—

I think I caught about five or six fish.

I heard a sound coming from the dark through the forest.

Sounds and shapes that are drawn even if they cannot be seen. If you come close, the main character with that calm voice will tell you that she is here for a night walk.

A woman with scarlet bob hair that reflects in the lantern.

“You’re fishing at night?”

It was Evangeline.

“Are you coming for a night walk again today?”

“Yes. It’s a spring night. There’s a sense of stability that comes from the unique, fresh night air.”

“Is that so?”

“You are still carrying the lantern.”

“Someone gave it to me. It’s a gift from a benefactor I met last night. I need to use it well.”

“Um. Um.”

Is it because of the scarlet light? Evangeline’s cheeks turn red as she lowers her head slightly.

Before long, she walked lightly and sat down next to me. Whoosh—the smell of the forest wafted in the air.

The scent of clean grass.

Could it be the scent that has been absorbed from the long period of time spent in the forest?

“How has fishing been going for you?”

“No problem. I was even recognized by Maxim.”

“Wow.”

It was quite amazing to see him widen his eyes.

I guess it was because I assumed that the reaction would be quiet due to his low-pitched voice.

The appearance of surprise itself was quite new.

As she continued to meet my gaze, Evangeline’s vision slowly turned to the right.

“Well… A little, if you look at it for too long.”

“Yes?”

“No.”

Was it a bit burdensome to stare at her for so long? After those words, there was a bit of silence.

A fish caught with good timing made the quiet forest cry with its fluttering and splashing sounds.

Without fail, I put it in my bag and skillfully threw the fishing rod into the lake.

“Do you like fish dishes?”

“Fish? I like it.”

Grilled food is also good. Stews like spicy stew are also good. Best of all is raw fish.

Nothing can match the fun of slicing fresh fish and dipping it in vinegar, wasabi, and soy sauce.

As I said that, she could sense my hunger. Because I was running around and couldn’t eat dinner.

“I am pretty good at cooking”

Evangeline looked very cute as she wiggled her hands while saying those words. She was shimmeringly reflected in the lantern, and her movements, as if slightly submerged in darkness, had a strange atmosphere.

“I can provide you with as many fish as you want. If you like cooking, how many would you like?”

“Yes…”

Apart from the flatness of her voice, her non-verbal body language was well revealed. Was it a reluctant answer?

“If I come visit you, will you treat me well?”

“I guess so. If you give me the ingredients, I should treat you.”

A voice that does not express any emotions. It seemed like a natural equivalent exchange was taking place, just because you give it to them. However, Evangeline’s brightly smiling face was charming in a way that did not match her voice.

“When is a convenient time for you?”

“Um… Tomorrow? or the day after tomorrow is also fine.”

“I’m going to be a little busy tomorrow. I’ll come visit you the day after tomorrow.”

“You can look forward to it.”

“Do you feel confident?”

“I’m good at cooking.”

“I’m looking forward to it.”

I had been living a busy life with no time to take a breath, so I was given a small break.

Going to the villagers to eat delicious food. It was unimaginable when people lived fishing, mining, and farming like machines.

Okay. I lived too much like a machine.

It was surprising that I didn’t get tired. It was only two weeks, but if you live like that, it’s natural for even a healthy person to get tired. It was a nice change of mood at a time when I felt like I was half out of my mind.

When the moon was more than half full in the sky, I tilted my head and slowly started to go down. Evangeline appeared to be dozing off because she was sleepy.

Even if she doesn’t do anything at the fishing spot, talking for two or three hours takes its own energy.

As it gets closer to bedtime, the fatigue increases.

“Let’s go quickly.”

After seeing her tilting from side to side, unable to support the weight of her head, I spoke up.

Shocked, Evangeline’s blank eyes stared at me quietly.

“Yes.”

Even at that moment, her voice was constant. That unique consistency that doesn’t even make you feel sleepy. It gives off a feeling of being unique.

“Can you go back on your own?”

“Yes. Are you coming back in two days with fish?”

“I will.”

The small meeting at night did not end until dawn. Leaving behind a small promise, I returned home in good spirits.
