Chapter 88: Interlude: Full Upgrade! (Continued)
This time, an entire day and a half passed in a flash, which was probably Li Ling's longest seclusion in learning a new skill. When his eyes opened, he did not even know what expression to make as he digested the last bits of the new skill, feeling that this idea to invest in lesser used skills was truly wise.
The new technique that emerged had a rather simple yet complex ability, which was to allow Li Ling to use his Purple Mansion as a host space to allow seamless real-time connectivity between anyone who received his invite code and also had a Purple Mansion of their own.
He would double as both a telecommunications service and a signal tower in one, with the current range limit being 100,000 km, which was about the size of a mid-tier region.
Li Ling did not even know where to begin in terms of this ability's utility.
Creating a force was something he always considered doing, and he even listed down some useful daoist arts in the hall's Whispering Blood Wing to exchange for later, but that was something for after he formed his Nascent Soul, because the Six Paths Halls encouraged disciples to only cultivate, learn and progress, not form power bases.
As far as Li Ling knew, there was no need to rush. Once you entered the middle layer of the sect, you would be pushed to form your own force as part of your official duties, and that would decide how you would qualify to receive resources as well as ascend to the upper layer.
Li Ling looked to the sky and named the ability the Heavenly Network. Its cost to go from Entry to Advanced was even worse than the Dao Seeing Eye, at 5000 Slaughter Points right from the start.
This one would be a long-term investment, but once he ascended higher and had more Slaughter Points available, it would certainly be more than worth it.
Going back to his other abilities, Li Ling skipped over the perfected Spirit Sense Control, which was both a banal technique with versions up to the Dao Integration Realm and locked from limit breaking due to his realm.
He also skipped over the Earth Tunneling Art, which also had its version up to the Dao Integration Realm, locked for the same reason. Next was his Golden Blockade, which did have great use, but couldn't be advanced due to the realm lock.
Finally, he reached the Cleansing Spell, which made Li Ling raise an eyebrow. There was only one Cleansing Spell in the world, this he knew, so if he limit broke it, there would definitely be something new created. The only question was how it would manifest this time.
Like the Voice Transmission technique, the Cleansing Spell only needed 10 Slaughter Points to reach Perfection, and its growth was quite simple. It could cleanse more intuitively, it could affect multiple targets, it could affect larger ranges of inanimate objects, and it could be used passively, all mildly useful upgrades.
But when he limit broke it, he descended into a six-hour-long meditation that ended with him opening his eyes and exhaling a waft of foul air. His heart felt serene yet was still thumping heavily because he began to truly appreciate and fear the creativity of the Infinite Slaughter System when limit breaking.
Still seated on the Mountain Splitting Blade, Li Ling gestured to the vigilant Majin Two. "You, come over and stretch your arm out."
Majin Two obeyed and extended his arm, only to grimace deeply when Li Ling cut it off with his hand, which swung like a knife, utilizing his potent Blood Qi to effect the severance. Li Ling casually glanced at the wound, which was still being eroded by Blood Qi, nodding in satisfaction while Majin Two clutched the stump, his eyes flickering with struggle.
Li Ling did not pay attention to this despite noticing it, only pointing at the wound with his finger and releasing a gentle silvery-white light. Immediately, the remnant Blood Qi on the wound hissed and evaporated rapidly before the wound itself began to stabilize, then to the shock of Majin Two, slowly heal.
However, Li Ling frowned deeply at the expenditure of his magic power, gesturing to Majin Two with his chin. "Pick up your arm and reattach it."
Majin Two complied numbly and watched as the seam reconnected and his arm rapidly regained life, as if it had never been severed before. Li Ling canceled his new daoist art and sighed deeply, feeling a strain of fatigue due to the massive expenditure of magic power in a short time.
That's right, the common Cleansing Spell used to restore items to their pristine state had somehow evolved into a Western Fantasy-style Major Healing Spell that could recover lost limbs, purify negative statuses like curses, poisons, or sickness, and also remove all blemishes and stains.
The only downside was, as seen, the cost was heavy. It was not realistic to expect a killer like him to become an anti-hero nanny who scowled all the time but reluctantly saved people with this skill, so its utility to him was limited, unless used on himself.
But then, there were far better self-healing arts for that, not to mention elixirs or even talismans.
Anyway, Li Ling named this one the Restoration Spell and glanced at its cost of 200 Slaughter Points to go from Entry to Advanced, deciding to only invest if there was surplus after this wave of upgrades.
The Qi Sealing Technique came next, and this was one that Li Ling would be seeing great use for, so he had no qualms upgrading it. Already, to deal with Cai Dong back then, he upgraded it to the Expert stage, which allowed him to seal anybody weaker than him quite securely, but he still paid the remaining 35 Slaughter Points to perfect it.
Nothing major changed, it just increased the strength of the seal, the duration it could last without maintenance, and the amount of effort it took to seal someone who resisted actively.
Upon limit breaking, Li Ling was disappointed to find that he was still conscious, and the upgrade lasted only a minute or so. It turned out that there was an advanced version of the Qi Sealing Technique already in creation for Firmament Heaven, so he couldn't gain a unique new skill this time.
The new technique was called the Spirit Isolation Mantra, which could not only suppress spiritual qi and magic power but also suppress one's spirit sense, locking it within their Sea of Consciousness. As Li Ling automatically inherited this technique at the Perfection stage, it could cover all those in the second realm and below while also not needing to work physically, but could be done through spirit sense from a distance.
With his 1058-meter spirit sense, no second realm foe would even have the chance to see him before he locked their cultivation up, turning them into helpless mortals.
This was exceedingly useful for him, who preferred to slaughter with ease rather than fight with his life on the line. This technique was going to see an absurd amount of mileage in this War of Annihilation, allowing him to reap lives at his leisure.
Now, we come upon the precious Yin-Yang Reversal Art itself, his first upgrade which showed the broken capabilities of the Infinite Slaughter System in terms of creating new techniques above the level of the old one that Li Ling could practice.
Back then, its price tag of 500 Slaughter Points had daunted him, but as this was his main target for evolution today, he decided to invest at least once or twice into it.
He paid the first 500 to reach the Advanced level and immediately sat down once more, signaling Majin Two to protect him using Voice Transmission. Unfortunately, the Heavenly Network could only be used by those with a Purple Palace, and a Purple Palace was a hallmark of achieving the Nascent Soul Realm.
After twelve hours of meditation, Li Ling began to shift forms once more, entering his female form, shocking Majin Two, then switching back repeatedly. In his male form, his burgeoning yang would cause the area to heat up, and in his female form, his chilling yin would cause ice to frost over the rocks in the area.
When Li Ling finally came out of it, his eyes gleamed with depth, unable to do anything but tsk at the marvelous nature of unique daoist arts.
At the Entry level, the list of abilities were mostly that he could reverse yin and yang in himself, reverse yin and yang in others, utilize pheromones to achieve incubus or succubus level natural charm, and enhance sexual sensation, meaning he did not even need to try to make his partners feel the peak of pleasure during intercourse.
Now at the Advanced level, his first ability, the Yin-Yang switch, was able to change not only his biological features but also his cultivation arts. In other words, his Azure Yang Magic Power, which was a fire element power, would become Cyan Yin Magic Power, the elemental opposite with an ice element nature.
This naturally gave him more versatility in all situations, allowing him to switch from fire to ice and also deepen his disguise when he switched genders. Previously, imagine how crazy it would have been to enter an all-women sect in his female form and then use Azure Yang Magic Power in front of them?
If those women didn't have their worldviews overturned, that would be an idyllic outcome.
Secondly, his reversal in others became stronger and could last longer, with far less backlash after those persons switched back to their natural selves. His pheromone charm could now be placed on others, allowing them to temporarily simulate being sexually attractive to the opposite sex, and the sensation enhancer got a slight boost, allowing him to tune it with a slider now.
Previously, the sensation was always at max level regardless, but now Li Ling could relax it a bit for those who weren't capable of withstanding such intense stimulation right away.
All in all, quite a great upgrade.
Li Ling was satisfied, cricking his neck that had become slightly stiff after sitting for so long. He checked the time and noted that slightly less than three whole days had passed since he began this seclusion, and he still had about four days until his mission would elapse.
That was why he told Majin One to return after seven days to the headquarters of the Fire Heart Sect, and Li Ling had initially planned to hole up there and upgrade his daoist arts as well as his realm, assuming he had enough merits, while waiting for the next stage of the war.
Now though, the discovery of something good here in the mountainside left Li Ling curious as to what it was, but he was not in a rush to find out. After all, the main issue was that he still had the Asura Blood Token in his heart.
This thing could even monitor his kills to discern what merits he should receive and what he had accomplished, so if he foolishly put the treasure before him, the sect would see it.
Even though there was no direct law saying that he should hand over precious resources, it was obviously better not to test a demonic sect. Even in a righteous sect, they could find a multitude of ways to seize it from you, much less in a demonic one.
While Li Ling did not need resources to grow, he could still use them for other things, right? He could either trade, use them to fashion specialized equipment, or even use them to enhance his bloodline because while he could not practice two body refinement methods at once, nothing was stopping him from merging a bloodline with the Asura Blood Descent.
In fact, having a bloodline in a skill based on blood and killing would obviously be far better.
