Chapter 79: The War Outpost
Li Ling had his plans for Luo Roumei, but it wasn't worth delving into them right now. Now, he was currently walking through the large and surprisingly very clean outpost of the Six Paths Halls that was established in the outskirts of the Five Elements Sect, a righteous sect faction of the middle tier.
As for whether they supported the Six Paths Hall in setting up an outpost, was their opinion even necessary? They should be happy that the Six Paths Sect did not even rope them into the blame surrounding the Black Heaven Sect, so they wisely pretended not to see it.
Now, as it should be obvious by now, despite taking this task from the Killing Blood Wing of the Asura Blood Hall, this entire War of Annihilation was not solely orchestrated by Li Ling's hall. Rather, the current war, or any war, task or endeavor, was jointly handled by all six halls and all six paths, at all levels.
So there were also members of the True Human Hall, the Hungry Ghost Hall, the Wild Beast Hall, the Divine Deva Hall and the Desolate Hell Hall who were present and provided different functions to the outpost that related to their overall cultivation theme as a part of the Six Paths Sect.
For one, the True Human Hall handled logistics and production for the entire Six Paths Halls, and even the same in the upper layers. Apart from a few outliers in each of the halls who handled special internal resource production, all the things like the blood pills, corpse skin, beast souls and so on for the various other halls were produced by those unassuming fellows who looked completely harmless.
For example, the previous Pang Wen was a True Human Hall disciple that handled Li Ling's registration into the camp and allocation of his residence, also informing him about the basics of the war since he was a first timer.
As the producers and the logistics experts, the True Human Hall fellows were naturally the richest in the sect, each of them being a miniature tycoon. Of course, this came at the detriment of their fierceness, as their wealth allowed them to enjoy life, so why go out to fight?
The True Human Hall utilized a Qi cultivation method called the True Human Way, which cultivated a sort of five elements like qi, magic power, and so on that was suitable for all forms of labor and production, not excelling at combat at all.
Then there was the Hungry Ghost Hall. These were the freaks of the Six Paths Sect, a bunch of weirdos who had very strong combat power, only one level below the Asura Blood Hall.
They cultivated a qi cultivation method called the Hungry Ghost Soul, which was a pure yin element technique that basically saw them create what was essentially an avatar of themselves, right from Qi Refinement, that could fight along with them.
The avatar started from a single head at Qi Refinement, to a head and two arms at Foundation Establishment, to an entire upper body at Core Formation, to a full body by Nascent Soul. The way the avatar fought, developed and even looked deeply reminded Li Ling of the famous ocular technique from that ninja series merged with the mental spirits from that bizarre series with time stopping.
They were usually in charge of handling the aftermath of the killing done by Asura Blood disciples, sometimes even being part of the fighting themselves in the later stages. After all, Asura Blood fellows only needed blood, but the corpses and the negative resentment were useful for the Hungry Ghost lads.
It was a kind of tacit understanding and as far as Li Ling had research from the 'forum' in the Asura Blood Token's space, the Hungry Ghost Hall and the Asura Blood Hall had the best relationship, akin to brothers from another mother.
The Wild Beast Hall was exactly as you thought of it, a bunch of bloodthirsty furries and scalies who were also very strong in combat but were only on par with the Hungry Ghost Hall, unable to match up to the professional madmen of the Asura Blood Hall.
Unlike other beast related sects who practiced beast taming, the Wild Beast Hall was all about choosing a specific beast to extract the bloodline from and merging it into your body then developing it further. Naturally, one could be held back by the innate bloodline of the beast, but as a sect that even connected to the upper realm, was this a problem for the Six Paths Demon Sect?
They even had immortal level bloodlines for sale in the Feeding Beast Wing, so as long as a Path Walker could amass the necessary points, they could purchase the Qi Refinement level of the bloodline.
Initially, Li Ling was interested in walking down this path as well, but he was blocked by the fact that the Wild Beast Hall's cultivation technique was also a body cultivation type, meaning that it could not be practiced at the same time as the Asura Blood Descent.
Their technique was called Wild Beast Harmonization, and once started, it required even more resources than the Asura Blood Descent for growth, but rather than pure killing power, it was more balanced depending on the beast you chose, and also granted the so called 'hax' powers, abilities usually hard to counter.
The Divine Deva Hall were the most disliked faction in the sect because they were the leaders and bureaucrats. They irritated everyone because somehow, they had the second strongest combat power, second strongest talent, second strongest growth speed, second strongest production ability, etc, but all they ever did was sit on their high horse and order others!
At all levels of the sect, the Divine Deva Path occupied the highest positions, as the current Demon Ancestor was a Divine Deva Path practitioner and so too was the current Sect Master! If it wasn't due to complaints from the other five paths, the positions of deputy sect master and Saint Son would have been snatched away by them as well!
Their technique was a Qi cultivation one called the Divine Deva Ascent, which cultivated a sort of perverse 'holy' light element qi, which was extremely rare in the entire Firmament Heaven, also boasting of the greatest killing power after the Blood Qi of the Asura Blood Path.
In the halls, they handled administration and overview, the same was true into this outpost too.
The Desolate Hell Hall was the most mysterious part of the sect, and these fellows were competing with the Hungry Ghost fellows in terms of who is the creepiest and most unsettling. If the Hungry Ghosts dealt with corpses, the Asuras dealt with blood and the Wild Beasts dealt with bloodline, then these guys were the kings of the spirit and soul!
All their methods targeted the sea of consciousness or the spiritual space, usually in the form of curses, voodoo and such malicious long distance attacks. The Desolate Hell Hall performed many auxiliary functions in the sect among the six paths that made them unique and crucial to its operation.
For one, the Six Paths Demon Sect's diviners and seers were from this hall, the sect's overall disciplinary matters across the six paths were handled by them, who could see the truth of most things, making them the best investigators and judges, and they were in charge of the sect's prisons and intelligence gathering, as they could definitely wrangle any information out from a target.
They practiced a qi cultivation technique called the Huangquan River, which allowed them to collect souls of the dead and refine them into their own ghost servants that could be used for various malicious purposes.
Do not let these fellows ever get a piece of your hair, your blood or learn your birth date. Already, they can achieve some basic harm with your true name, but if you give them the rest, expect to meet the entire crew of Freddy, Jason, Jack, Pennywise and Mike in your dreams that night.
After factoring all this in, Li Ling entered the administration center of the outpost where he would accept his dispatch, seeing that it was full of disciples also going about their business. One thing about the Six Paths Demon Sect was that everyone, regardless of their hall or path, wore the same white and gold robes.
This was extremely confusing for outsiders, because they wouldn't be able to tell which path or hall you belonged to easily. Was the enemy a crazy Asura Blood killer? Was he a troublesome Desolate Hell Hall madman? Or was he just a True Human Hall paper tiger?
The Six Paths Demon Sect precisely wanted you to not know, because their disciples didn't have that problem. With the Asura Blood Token merged in his heart and blood, Li Ling could instantly sense the affiliation of any Six Paths Demon Sect disciples within range of his eyesight and spirit sense and they could for him as well.
So Li Ling could tell that the admin center was full of Asura Blood disciples, who were the frontline fighters about to set out and do the heavy lifting, with a smattering of Hungry Ghost fellows who were planning to tag along and either help in the fight or claim the bodies for their creepy experiments.
Apart from that were a few True Human Hall fellows who handled the background framework of the entire situation and handed out the dispatches while there was a group of Divine Deva fellows who overlooked everything at the top level, marking areas for killing.
Li Ling soon found Pang Wen in one of the counters and received his dispatch, which was negotiated by Li Ling and Pang Wen beforehand. Li Ling needed only merits and did not care about the wealth, but Pang Wen did, especially for the beauties.
So he gave Li Ling a rich dispatch which included three low sects with a Foundation Establishment ancestor at the helm on the account that Li Ling would give him 80% of the sect's treasury and capture any beauties to be brought back for him.
Li Ling, who understood the power of bribery and corruption from earth in any faction, immediately agreed but argued for a bit, bringing down the 100% that Pang Wen greedily wanted down to 80%. After all, he too would need to gather some funds for miscellaneous things outside of the Six Paths Demon Sect.
So when he got his dispatch, both men shared a knowing look and almost burst into laughter.
Of course, the only issue was traveling to his dispatch area. There were no shortcuts there, and he had to travel manually by himself, using his own means until he got there. Meanwhile, the entire way, there might be ambushes and traps from the local cultivators either of the Black Heaven Sect or other factions who understood that there was no negotiation in this War of Annihilation, only death.
Given how his Slaughter Points worked and how fast he could grow, Li Ling rejected any offer to form teams to traverse the initial part together and he also rejected a few Hungry Ghosts who wanted to follow along to handle the aftermath for him.
He simply plunged heartily into the depths, those watching from afar shaking their heads that indeed, only the Asura Blood Hall fellows could be so belligerent.
Li Ling had his danger sense from the Purple Mansion active, so he decided to see if he could harvest some early kills by ostentatiously flying in the air on the Mountain Splitting Blade while using the Perfected Spirit Sense Control. Meanwhile, the Blood Drinking Spear followed along quietly and near costless thanks to his Spear Will, ready to give a surprise attack to any assailant.
And would you know it, there was indeed a feast prepared for him by the ignorant cultivators of the Black Heaven Sect!
