Chapter 14: — The Headmaster

Nora Flamesworth consulted with the headmaster, her teacher. After the bonding ceremony.

"I have a question, teacher."

The old woman that was the headmaster sat across from Nora, sitting at her desk. Drinking some kind of green tea. Made from the herbs that grew on the windowsill.

"What is it, Nora?"

"Well…I noticed that student, Clay Solron was his name? He…summoned the smallest beast I have ever seen. He's not weak. Even if he caught me off guard with his power. He bested me in a duel. He has good mastery over two elements. But even if he put raw mana into the circle. Why would he summon something as weak as that?"

"Well…Nora, the spirit chose him, there must've been a reason. But we've classified it as a baby serpent. In the future. Depending on its growth rate. It could become quite formidable. Like your great lion."

"Ah…yes, that…makes sense. But— still. There has to be a reason. There must've been many powerful spirits chasing for him. So why did that thing, that baby make it out on top?"

"Well…hm. I'm not sure, Nora."

The headmaster looked to the clock.

"Hm, would you look at that. Nora, it is getting quite late. You should have your classes soon, correct."

Nora sighed.

"Yes, headmaster."

Nora got up and left.

That is when the headmasters bond, an ancient spirit of light. That knew history long before it was even created.

"It's very clear that baby serpent is not what it seems."

"It is rather suspicious. Lucio."

Lucio was its name. A scholar from long ago.

"It is a spawn of something powerful, perhaps, the serpent that swallowed a star?"

"Hmph. Lucio, if that ancient god was reborn, it would've done so long ago. Why wait millions of years to be reborn? Wyrms like that have a history of being reborn only years between death. And that god was slain millions of years ago."

"Perhaps it had a reason. But that child is not what he seems. Including his bond. Keep a close eye on him. He could be a threat to us if he gets too powerful."

"He is a teenager, Lucio. He will not become a threat if he is taught well."

"If that's what you think. Headmaster. Then sure. Go ahead. I can't wait to tell you I told you so."

Lucio vanished from sight. Leaving the headmaster to think in silence.
