Chapter 56: A Friend...?
"Insane… huh?"
Cassius pondered deeply about this matter. Either the Idle Evolution System was trolling him, just as it wanted him to do to others, or there was something more to this matter with Bella. 'Just what is she hiding…?'
A hush fell over the lit-up bench area of a street located right outside Cassius's home as he thought about several different plausible scenarios. Memphis, on the other hand, was too preoccupied with the previous subject of living together.
'Living together… Isn't t-that what a man and woman do after… ma-marr… marriage…??'
Smoke escaped her head through her ears as she turned redder than a tomato. Now that her mind was clearer, she was seriously beginning to wonder if this whole thing was a good idea. However, when she recalled the lascivious look on her uncle's face and the innocent kindness of the young shadowy hooded man beside her, her mind resolved.
With newfound determination, Memphis turned to the contemplative Cassius. "I want to live with you!"
"...Is that so…?"
"Yes! If you let me stay at your place for a period of time, I promise you that I will repay the favor when I eventually awaken as a Hunter!"
"Very well."
"And additionally— Ahh, wait, what was that?" Memphis's well-thought-out speech came to a sudden halt as she started forward.
Cassius raised an amused brow at her adorable mannerisms. "I said that you can stay. And you can do so for as long as you need to. Of course, you and I will both need to put some effort into convincing my stepmother."
Although Memphis didn't understand how she managed to get away with something so monumental so easily, that didn't mean she would say anything to refute his words.
Giddy, she said loudly, "I will do everything I can to convince your stepmother! You can trust me!"
Cassius chuckled softly as he rose from the bench and extended a hand in her direction. "Well, let's see you put those skills to the test then."
Memphis only slightly hesitated before taking his large, rough hand and pulling herself forward. "I can do it!"
Now able to walk just fine, she took large confident strides away from the bench.
However, somewhere in the middle of her stride, she froze in place and slowly swiveled her head around like a mechanically impaired toy.
"Wh-Which way is your home…?" she asked with a twitching smile. The answer she received was a silent one, as Cassius threw up a thumb pointing behind him. "It's right there." He pointed to the two-story Japanese house located right next to the bench.
"...Really…?"
"Yep."
"...I see…"
A hint of crimson touched Memphis's cheeks as she awkwardly raced back over to Cassius before lightly knocking her forehead against his chest. "...You won't mention this, right…?" she practically squeaked, with no evidence of her previous mojo still present.
Cassius watched her affection for him scale close to 65, finding the difference between her actions and actual feelings quite amusing. Still, he answered, "Of course not." While smiling warmly.
"Mhmm…"
They both then walked toward the front entrance to his house.
She gained back a lot of her confidence upon coming into contact with the door, yet lost most of it as soon as she heard faint footsteps echo out from inside. Luckily, Cassius was there to help alleviate most of the pressure she was feeling.
It was also during this time that Memphis was finally able to see what lay beneath that shadowy hood of his. And for the rest of the time before the footsteps approached the other side of the door, she was left breathless, with her heart beating way out of rhythm.
Cassius saw her affection increase by another 5 points and hit 68, but he had no idea it was solely because of his appearance, assuming that it happened because of the outward intimacy of a cannon event like this one.
Tap, Tap, Tap!
Sasha finally made it to the door and promptly opened it up. The moment she saw the tall, handsome figure ahead, her golden eyes slightly glossed over as she recalled the frivolous thoughts that passed through her mind earlier that day. However, when her eyes fell on the pretty girl standing beside him, they unintentionally darkened a little. This also caused her affection rating to increase by 5, which greatly confused Cassius.
Yet, before he could broach the matter, she spoke first:
"This girl is… a friend of yours…?"
"Ahh, yes." Cassius snapped out of it as he gestured to the gorgeous girl nervously squirming in place. "She is someone currently going through a rough patch, and I was hoping that you would allow her to stay here with us until she finds somewhere else to stay."
Realizing that this was her part to add something in, Memphis bowed at a low angle, letting her silky black hair flow over her head. "I-It's very nice to meet you, Miss Sasha! I-I am Memphis, and I would—" She stuttered repeatedly, yet only worsened things when she bowed a little too much and tipped over.
Fortunately, Cassius caught her by the back of her ripped-up dress just before she could faceplant the ground.
Shifting his eyes back to the judging Sasha, he said, "Memphis may be a bit clumsy, but she is a good girl… Just… she has been through some things recently." Suddenly turning serious, he bowed as well, surprising both Sasha and Memphis. "I would be in your debt if you could permit her to stay here for the time being. Please…"
"C-Cassius…" Memphis really didn't like seeing him go so far for her, especially not after she messed things up so badly.
"Fine."
"What…?" Both Cassius and Memphis were confused.
Sasha sighed as she lightly shook her head, bringing with that action the jiggling of her motherly milky white valleys, which were clearly visible in her risqué nightwear.
"I was never going to deny your request to begin with, but seeing you get so serious about something… It makes me happy." She smiled genuinely, dazing both Cassius and Memphis.
They would never deny it if someone said that this woman had maxed out her mature charm; it even made the latter feel a bit inferior.
