Chapter 6: Chapter 6 - Lore of Magicapter
Lex looked at the suitcase in front of him.
Then his gaze moved to the owner of the suitcase. The demon in human form smiled casually at him.
He expected this from Mephisto. The longer he was away from his kingdom, the weaker he became. What did he expect? That the devil would teach him magic like a good teacher. Absurd!
"Wasn't part of our deal to make me a formidable practitioner of the Mystic Arts?" Lex asked.
"That's how it was," Mephisto confirmed with a smile.
"Then why do you only give me books? Do you really believe that I can master all the spells after reading them once?" Lex asked, frowning.
"I definitely said that I would give you knowledge of magic. I never said that I would teach you personally," Mephisto said this with a calm smile on his face.
He had kept his end of the bargain. He was not going to help the boy any more.
"It doesn't matter. At least give me some relic that will help me stay hidden. So that other magic users can't find me so easily," Lex continued.
Mephisto smiled at the boy. He hadn't thought the boy would be smart enough to ask for this. It only confirmed his suspicions. The boy was the perfect person for this.
- Don't forget to keep the case close to you when you do magic. It will help you remain invisible to others. They won't be able to sense your magic. The case also contains instructions for use. And several of my own books. They contain knowledge about the types of magic lost by humanity, - Mephisto spoke calmly. He gave the boy copies of his books. Even if he lost them somewhere, it wouldn't affect him much.
Besides, it would be fun to watch the boy try to master magic. He wanted to see what success his champion could achieve on his own.
Science and magic are two different things. The latter was not easy to master. The rules of magic were much more confusing and contradictory.
The God of Lies described it well.
"Magic is a thought and its embodiment into reality. Taking a lie and making it true. Telling the universe a story so perfect, so cosmically perfect, that for one shining moment... the world believes that man can fly."
A power that helped compete with cosmic beings.
A force that, in the right hands, can shape reality itself.
A month later
Lex Luthor was a man of science. He never thought about esoteric arts.
In simple words, in his quest to defeat Superman, he never thought about things like magic and all that.
Of course, he respected talented magicians. He craved their power, having seen it with his own eyes.
Zatanna, Doctor Fate, Constantine. They were all shining examples of this. Their mastery of magic left a strong impression on him.
But now he finally had a way to learn magic as strong as theirs.
A way to gain this amazing power himself. Of course, there must have been many powerful sorcerers on Earth. But he did not want his name to be forgotten. He wanted to leave a legacy for future students of the mystical arts.
He wanted them to say his name with reverence and adoration. This was Lex Luthor's ultimate dream.
To be a shining example for future people to look up to.
This was Lex Luthor's ultimate goal in life. Or rather, what Lex's goal was.
His goal was different from the previous Lex.
He wanted to have as much fun as possible. He wanted to be one of Marvel's leading heroes. But not at the expense of everything he held dear.
He wanted to live a long life, satisfying all his perversions along the way. There was no shortage of beauties in Marvel. He wanted to taste them before meeting God again.
Jean Grey, Felicia Hardy, Mary Jane Watson, Susan Storm, Natasha Romanoff, Kitty Pryde. There were many names. He loved these characters even as a child.
Now, finding himself in a fantasy world, he really wanted to try his luck with them.
Mephisto did not grace him with his presence after handing him the suitcase.
The last month of magic lessons was a new experience for him.
Everything was new to him. Strangely, after some trial and error, he quickly began to grasp the basics.
He chalked it up to Lex's innate talent.
So far he could levitate objects in the air. He couldn't open portals or teleport yet. But he was still pleased with his progress.
He tested his levitation on various heavy objects.
Without being noticed, he tried levitation magic on objects weighing over a ton.
The first few times he failed spectacularly.
After repeated training, he was able to lift the load to a height of about an inch from the ground.
The more weight, the more stress on the body and magic.
Gradually, over time, it will work out. Now he was using his personal energy.
There were various sources of magic. Such as:
Personal energy - mental and spiritual powers that mystics and sorcerers develop for themselves (psionic energy, chi manipulation, astral projection, mind speech, etc.).
The ambient magical energy of the Universe - Mages can use this power for many effects, such as teleportation and energy bolts. By definition, it is taken from Eternity. They usually involve actual casting of spells and may be limited to the main dimension explored and not work in others. It is also one of the most powerful sources of magic.
Extradimensional energy - powers gained by using extradimensional energy and summoning entities or objects of power that exist in mystical dimensions, with different physical and magical laws to our own. Unlike the first two options, the entities summoned usually have the power to decide how or if the power will be used.
Items - Magic can also manifest in the form of items imbued with power, such as the Crimson Gem of Kytorak. These are often created by powerful sorcerers and extradimensional entities, and vary in function and power.
Of these four directions, he wanted to know more about the second one.
He wanted to fundamentally touch the power of the universe itself. The energy he would find there would be far greater than most others.
However, he did not want to slack off in the other three areas. The development of personal energy was necessary. Mephisto had given him books on this subject as well. He had no magical items or relics in his arsenal. And finally, he knew little about extradimensional entities other than some basic things.
The books contained knowledge on these three areas. According to them, the topics and magic had to be studied slowly, gradually.
Thoughtless actions can lead to disastrous consequences.
If he thoughtlessly performs any ritual on any creature, there is a chance that he may destroy his world in the process.
Various problems arose on his way.
But he firmly believed that he would overcome them all.
