Chapter 7: Dragon Eggs

The sun hung low in the sky as Alex led Daenerys through the twisting streets of Braavos. His hand rested on her shoulder, guiding her through the bustling crowds. They had donned large, tattered cloaks to blend in, though Daenerys still looked out of place. Her fine clothes and delicate features were unmistakable, but the cape shielded her from prying eyes.

Alex kept a firm hand on her shoulder, his grip just tight enough to remind her not to wander or draw attention. Daenerys moved quietly beside him, her steps hesitant. Her wide eyes scanned their surroundings, confusion clouding her thoughts. The bustling streets of Braavos, with its colorful market stalls, loud vendors, and strange faces, were a far cry from the sheltered life she had led until now.

"Stay close," Alex murmured. "And don't speak unless I say so."

Daenerys nodded silently, trusting him, though uncertainty still clung to her. She had never seen the world like this. Her mind raced with questions, but she held them in check, too afraid to ask. The concept of magic was foreign to her—an ancient thing, long thought lost. She had heard stories of magicians, but they were little more than myth and legend, tales from her childhood.

When Alex had told her he was a magician, she had no choice but to believe him. Magic, in this age, was practically extinct. Few could still claim to wield it, and even fewer had ever seen it in action. The idea that she was traveling with one made her both frightened and awed. Alex was something more, something powerful.

"I told you," Alex's voice broke her thoughts. "You'll be safe as long as you follow my instructions."

Daenerys looked up at him, her brow furrowed. "What if… what if I can't trust you? What if you're not what you say?"

"You can," Alex replied firmly. "I'm your only chance right now."

She hesitated for a moment before nodding again, too weary to argue. She trusted him out of necessity, and part of her was beginning to believe in him.

Their journey took them deeper into the less-traveled parts of Braavos, where the streets became quieter and the buildings older and more run-down. Alex kept his pace steady, never letting Daenerys stray. They were moving through the shadows now, away from prying eyes, heading for a secluded part of the city where Alex had already mapped out their next hideout.

Eventually, they reached an abandoned house on the far edge of the city. The structure was in a state of disrepair, with shattered windows and a door that barely hung on its hinges. It was perfect. Hidden, isolated, and away from any immediate danger.

"This is where we'll stay for now," Alex said, pushing the door open. He stepped inside first, checking for any signs of movement. It was empty, just as he expected.

Daenerys stepped inside behind him, looking around with curiosity. The air was damp, and the smell of old wood and mold lingered in the corners. It wasn't a palace, but it was safe—for now.

"Here," Alex said, pointing to a corner where a few old blankets and a rickety wooden chair were piled. "Sit here for now. I need to check something."

As Daenerys settled herself into the corner, Alex activated his system again, and a new task appeared on his interface.

New Task:

Objective: Steal 3 dragon eggs from Illyrio Mopatis's mansion and escape from Braavos.

Reasoning: Daenerys cannot be the Dragon Queen without dragons.

Reward: 1000 Credits + Off-road Jeep for escape.

Alex's eyes narrowed as he read the task. Stealing from Illyrio was no easy feat. The man was powerful, with connections that stretched across the Free Cities. But Alex didn't have a choice. If Daenerys was to have any hope of reclaiming her birthright, she needed the dragons.

Turning to Daenerys, Alex said, "I need you to stay here, out of sight. I have to go back to Illyrio's mansion."

Her eyes widened. "No. I can't—"

"You can and you will," Alex interrupted. "I'm going to steal dragon eggs. You're going to stay here, and you're going to stay quiet. Do you understand?"

Daenerys bit her lip, torn between fear and obedience. Finally, she nodded. "I understand."

"Good." Alex gave her a reassuring nod. "I'll be back soon. Stay hidden, and don't make a sound unless absolutely necessary."

He grabbed his pistol, checking its ammo, and then looked at her one last time. "I'm doing this for you, Daenerys. You'll be a queen one day. But you need the dragons."

The mention of the dragons made her eyes light up, a spark of hope flaring in her heart. But the reality of what Alex was about to do also made her nervous. She couldn't help but wonder what kind of man would risk so much for someone like her.

"I'll wait for you," she said softly.

"Stay strong and if the thought of escaping came to your mind remember i will kill your brother so. Don't even think about escaping "Alex said, then turned and left the house.

As he moved through the streets again, blending into the crowd, his thoughts turned to the mission ahead. Illyrio's mansion was heavily guarded, and taking the eggs would be risky. But he had no choice. He needed those eggs, for Daenerys's future—and for his own survival in this strange new world.

He activated his drone, keeping a watchful eye on the surroundings, and made his way toward Illyrio's estate, preparing himself for whatever might come next.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the world in deep shades of purple and orange, Alex crouched in a dark alley just a few streets away from Illyrio Mopatis's mansion. His drone hovered silently above, its sleek, invisible form blending seamlessly into the night sky. Alex had spent the last few hours carefully studying the layout of the mansion, scouting every entrance, every blind spot, and every guard post.

The mansion was heavily fortified, with stone walls and guards patrolling the perimeter. Illyrio's wealth and influence ensured he was well-protected. But Alex was no ordinary thief. With the help of his system, he had everything he needed to make this plan work.

His fingers moved over the interface in his wrist, and he quickly purchased a night vision module from the system store for 30 credits. The cool, metallic hum of the system working its magic was the only sound as his vision shifted, the world around him transforming into shades of green. Everything became clearer, more defined, and Alex could now see even the smallest details in the dark.

"Let's get this over with," he muttered under his breath, checking his silenced pistol for the final time.

With the night vision enhancing his senses, Alex made his way toward the mansion. He kept his movements fluid and quiet, blending into the shadows as he approached the outer walls. The guards were scattered along the perimeter, but none of them noticed the shadow that slipped by them unnoticed.

His drone hovered above him, alerting him of any approaching threats, but for now, the coast was clear.

As he neared the main gates, Alex crouched behind a stack of crates, observing the guards on duty. Two men stood watch by the front gate, chatting idly, while two more circled the inner courtyard. He smiled to himself—tonight would be a good night for a heist.

Alex signaled to the drone, and it flew to the courtyard's edge, relaying the exact positions of the guards to his system. A soft beep echoed in his earpiece, indicating that the guards in the courtyard had moved toward the other side of the mansion.

"Time to move," Alex whispered, stepping from the shadows and making his way toward the side entrance.

He reached the hidden side door within minutes, He slipped inside, blending into the darkened hallway.

His drone continued its reconnaissance from above, guiding him past the first set of guards and deeper into the mansion. Alex remained perfectly still whenever a guard passed by, the night vision allowing him to see their silhouettes in the pitch black.

The mansion's halls were eerily quiet, save for the occasional echo of footsteps or the distant murmur of voices. Alex moved cautiously, taking out a guard at the first hallway intersection with a quick, silent shot to the head. The body crumpled without a sound, and Alex swiftly dragged it out of sight.

He moved further into the mansion, his gun in hand, every sense heightened. The air was thick with tension, but Alex was focused. His drone kept a vigilant watch, helping him track the movement of the guards and warning him when to hold still. One by one, the guards fell.

By the time he reached the heart of the mansion, he had already neutralized five guards, each one falling without a sound.

The deeper he went, the more heavily guarded the mansion became. Finally, Alex reached a massive set of wooden doors at the far end of the hall, guarded by two hulking figures. The guards stood watch, their weapons at the ready, clearly alert.

This was it. The door was the key to what he sought. He had to assume it led to something important—most likely Illyrio himself or the dragon eggs. He'd have to take them out quickly and efficiently.

Alex checked his pistol's ammo count, then moved into position. He took a deep breath, silencing his thoughts. His plan was simple: eliminate the guards, breach the door, and secure the eggs.

The first guard turned away for a split second, giving Alex the opening he needed. In a flash, he aimed and fired, the silenced shot barely making a sound as it hit its mark. The second guard's head snapped back as he fell, blood pooling beneath him.

Alex was already on the move, pushing the door open swiftly and silently. The heavy wood creaked slightly as it gave way, revealing a large chamber bathed in dim candlelight.

Inside, a massive table was surrounded by ornate chairs, and on the far side of the room, a set of stone chests stood, the faint glow of a nearby fire illuminating them. Alex's eyes narrowed as he scanned the room.

And then, he saw them.

Three large eggs, each with a faint, iridescent sheen, sat upon a velvet cloth. They were unmistakably dragon eggs, just as the system had promised. The thought of Daenerys owning them one day, of becoming the Dragon Queen, filled him with a strange sense of purpose.

But he had to act quickly.

He moved toward the eggs, The lock snapped open with ease, and he carefully lifted the first egg, feeling its weight in his hand. It was warm, as if it contained the dormant life of the beast within.

But just as he was about to take the second egg, the sound of footsteps echoed in the hallway. A sharp, grating voice followed.

"Who dares enter my chambers?"

Alex froze. Illyrio. He had arrived.

Time was running out.
