Chapter 91: Can't Swallow This Breath
Wen Miner was dead? Liu Qingdai wasn't the only one stunned; Wen Zhixing was also dumbfounded.
How could this be? Wen Zhixing's brows furrowed. If it had been anyone else sending the message, he might not have doubted it. But this Mu Yunqing was simply too suspicious.
Liu Qingdai's hands trembled as she sent back: [How did Miner die?]
Mu Yunqing replied, his tone filled with sorrow: [When I went to meet her, Junior Sister Miner had already been exposed. Unfortunately, it was too late; there was no time left.]
Liu Qingdai didn't speak for a long time after hearing this, her head hanging low.
[Junior Sister, you must hurry back to the sect. It's not safe outside now.]
After saying this, Mu Yunqing stopped transmitting messages. He put away the Message Jade Talisman, a slight smile playing on his lips, devoid of any sorrow.
"Junior Sister Miner, I can't rest easy until you're dead."
Mu Yunqing used his longsword to lift the small body before him, chuckling softly as he tossed it aside. The blade had pierced Wen Miner's heart, and all breath had left her. Two more holes marked the center of her brow and her throat.
Nearby lay the bodies of several more Wonderous Palace disciples.
Mu Yunqing hadn't entirely lied. Wen Miner had indeed been exposed and even captured by people from the Wonderous Palace before this. However, her life hadn't been in immediate danger at that point.
It was then that Mu Yunqing suddenly appeared, striking down everyone from the Wonderous Palace with his sword. Then, without hesitation, he struck three more times, aiming straight for Wen Miner's brow, throat, and heart. Each blow was fatal, delivered without a shred of mercy.
He smiled as he looked at Wen Miner, who lay dead with her eyes wide open.
Now he could finally rest easy.
Wang Shiyang had helped him conceal his intent to kill Wen Zhixing. With Wen Miner dead, he could finally, truly rest easy.
Another person stood beside Mu Yunqing, watching the scene with an expressionless face.
"Junior Brother Zhang, where did Junior Brother She go?" Mu Yunqing looked at Zhang Tiancheng beside him and smiled warmly.
"I don't know. Senior Brother She left on his own," Zhang Tiancheng replied, bowing his head respectfully.
"No matter. I'll contact him when the time comes." Mu Yunqing's eyes twinkled before he smiled. "Junior Brother Zhang, you've done very well."
He patted Zhang Tiancheng's shoulder, thoroughly pleased. Zhang Tiancheng was the one who had informed him of Wen Miner's whereabouts. Without him, this would have been far more troublesome.
He had originally intended to kill both Zhang Tiancheng and She Zhihong to eliminate this last potential threat. However, with She Zhihong's current whereabouts unknown, killing Zhang Tiancheng might make She Zhihong go into hiding permanently. Besides, Zhang Tiancheng had performed admirably, making Mu Yunqing somewhat reluctant to dispose of him.
He had mastered an unexpectedly acquired secret skill. In time, Zhang Tiancheng would become his puppet—forever loyal, his obedient dog.
"Let's go." Mu Yunqing smiled faintly. He and Zhang Tiancheng then slowly vanished into the darkness.
The cold wind swept through, and the bodies on the ground slowly stiffened.
A moment later, another figure approached. She was small in stature, with a rather comely face, and her eyes, fixed on the scene before her, burned with hatred.
"Mu Yunqing, you are truly ruthless!"
She stepped forward to what appeared to be Wen Miner's side and formed a hand seal. At the back of the corpse's head, a thin line of condensed Spiritual Qi appeared. With a gentle tug from the newcomer, the line detached, and the entire skin suddenly split open, peeling away.
From beneath the skin, another body tumbled out—one completely flayed. The person who had died wasn't Wen Miner at all; it was merely someone else wearing her skin.
The next moment, Wen Miner's voice emerged from the petite woman's lips: "Mu Yunqing, did you think killing me, Wen Miner, would be that easy?"
This woman was the real Wen Miner.
Wen Miner had long realized she was exposed and had already planned her escape. She had personally stripped off her own skin and used the Beast Ceation Skill to swap identities with another person. She had mastered this Beast Ceation Skill to perfection long ago, only pretending not to know it before.
She hadn't discarded her own skin but had carefully preserved it. It could still be used; after a period of nurturing with Spiritual Qi, it would recover.
"Mu Yunqing... and... Master..." Wen Miner's expression was tumultuous, her eyes suddenly chilling. Then, she let out a long breath, and a cold smile touched her lips. "Senior Brother Mu, I eagerly await our next meeting... and yours too, Master..."
Her words barely faded before her figure vanished into the darkness.
She had already guessed that Wang Shiyang and Mu Yunqing were colluding. Once she recovered, she would change her appearance and return to the Righteous Sun Sect. She wouldn't be able to swallow this indignation until Mu Yunqing was dead. And Wang Shiyang—she wouldn't spare him either!
Meanwhile, Liu Qingdai remained in a daze, her gaze vacant.
Wen Miner was a few years younger than her, and they had been childhood playmates for a time. The Wonderous Palace was responsible for the death of Wen Miner's parents. Back then, Wen Miner was just learning to walk. Fortunately, a passerby from the Righteous Sun Sect rescued her, and thus she joined the sect.
But no one had expected Wen Miner to be so precocious; she hadn't forgotten anything that had happened. Later, she even took the initiative to join the Wonderous Palace, seeking a chance for revenge. She had long since secretly eliminated those who had destroyed her family.
"Junior Sister Miner was so outstanding..." Liu Qingdai murmured, her expression blank. She never imagined that Wen Miner, who should have been able to retire safely after her accomplishments, would die like this.
Wen Zhixing stood beside her, sneering inwardly. He was certain that if Wen Miner was truly dead, Mu Yunqing must have been the killer. And the reason for killing Wen Miner had to be related to him. This Mu Yunqing was truly ruthless, killing his own sect brothers and sisters without hesitation. But he wouldn't warn Liu Qingdai. He was just an outsider now. Mu Yunqing was Liu Qingdai's senior brother; would she even believe him if he voiced his suspicions? Besides, he didn't have a shred of evidence. It was better to say nothing.
"My condolences." After some thought, Wen Zhixing simply offered this.
"My condolences," Wang Shouzhen parroted.
"I'm alright." Liu Qingdai shook her head, but her smile looked painfully forced.
Silence descended upon them for a moment. The three of them simply stood quietly.
By now, a faint chill had crept into the air. So much had happened in a single night.
Just then, the sound of tearing air ripped through the sky once more as figure after figure approached their location.
"Senior Sister, Wang Shouzhen fled in this direction! It's highly probable that Wen Zhixing was with him!"
"Good! Search quickly! If you catch them, the Palace Master will reward you generously! You few, search this area. The rest of you, follow me and continue the pursuit!"
"Search! Don't overlook any location. We must find them!"
"Expand your spiritual sense! They couldn't have gone far!"
"Yes!"
