Chapter 272: Uria's Invitation to Battle
Liens turned his head and saw a tall figure already standing before him.
Perhaps due to the nature of his profession, the newcomer's style of dress seemed a bit complex, as if the clothes were not just for covering and warmth but should possess many functions.
"Of course, Mr. Robert."
Liens stood up and responded. He knew he had a bit of a poker face and looked unfriendly, so he would accompany his words with some simple gestures to prevent misunderstandings.
"Uria, lend Liens a moment. We'll be done talking quickly and won't delay your sparring later... Liens, let's talk over there."
Robert smiled at Uria, then sternly pointed to a corner of the conference room, signaling Liens to follow him.
"Hmm? All right."
Uria nodded in slight daze, but Robert and Liens had already turned and walked towards that corner, no longer paying him any mind.
Uria frowned slightly as he looked at the two. He realized that what Robert wanted to discuss with Liens might not be simple.
Because Robert had actually set up a soundproofing barrier, and even used divine magic to blur their figures, which showed he didn't want others to know the content of his conversation with Liens.
"Today's meeting feels very strange. Darnell, Mr. Robert, Mr. Balder, and even Miss Lucrezia are the same."
"I always feel like these people are hiding some secrets... What does the appearance of the monster tide represent? What impact will it have on the family?"
"Liens... I can't see through him."
"He is more terrifying now than before. A few days ago, his gaze towards others, although containing deeply hidden indifference, was still enveloped by rich humanity."
"But now, that humanity has disappeared... What kind of gaze is he using to examine us... Do we still need to fight that match?"
Uria's eyes twitched slightly, revealing a strange light.
Soon, while Uria was still thinking, the soundproofing barrier in the corner suddenly opened. The conversation between Liens and Robert, from start to finish, truly only took the 'little time' Robert had mentioned.
Liens seemed unchanged; at least, Uria couldn't discern any change from that indifferent face.
Robert, on the other hand, had a somewhat graver expression, appearing troubled by something. He didn't even have the mood to greet Uria and directly left the conference room in a hurry.
Seeing his hurried departure, the confusion in Uria's eyes deepened. He wondered what they had discussed in that short amount of time.
"Uria, everyone else has left. Have you decided if we're going to spar?"
Liens walked up to Uria and asked, his tone flat and without any fluctuation, giving the impression that he was enunciating each word, devoid of emotion.
Although he knew Liens probably had no ill will, hearing that voice and recalling his previous thoughts, Uria instinctively flinched and shivered.
However, he quickly recovered, thought for a moment, and gritted his teeth, saying, "Let's fight. Anyway, a simple warm-up won't take much time."
"However, to avoid wasting strength and affecting our subsequent actions, let's try not to use too much elemental or other power. Just a simple sparring of techniques, is that okay?"
Uria asked for Liens's opinion. He initially wanted to understand Liens's character a bit through combat.
After all, a person's character influences their combat habits; this is a 'tendency' that is difficult to shake off even when reaching higher levels of technique.
As Uria, who grew up in the military, he had trained from a young age in the skill of understanding an opponent's character through combat.
While not entirely accurate, it helped him categorize others, so he could be more cautious when encountering vile or mentally unstable individuals.
It was also thanks to this skill that he, an illegitimate son of the Gray family, was able to grow up steadily and, through his own efforts and talent, break through to the Great Knight and become a controller of the Gray family.
But now, he began to doubt whether this skill of his would be useful against someone who seemed completely emotionless?
But at this point, he had to try. He found it difficult to relax with an emotionless monster by his side.
"Yes."
Liens nodded lightly, agreeing to Uria's suggestion.
Although he could perceive Uria's complex emotions at the moment and could tell that Uria had ulterior motives for sparring with him, as long as there was no malice, he was too lazy to investigate further.
Uria let out a sigh of relief, then led Liens, the two walking one after another towards the training ground.
Along the way, they could see the Rebel Army soldiers already busy; some were moving things, some were dismantling military tents, and others were constantly running around, waving flags and shouting commands to guide other soldiers in orderly actions.
Watching these unified and orderly actions, Liens seemed to see that military flag once again on those soldiers.
"Uria, what do you think the will of many ordinary people represents?"
Hearing this, Uria turned to look at Liens, wondering why he suddenly asked such a question.
"It represents chaos."
Liens didn't wait for Uria to respond, but answered himself, then continued:
"When this chaos becomes orderly on its own, it becomes 'belief'. 'Belief' pointing to a person is faith; 'belief' pointing to an event is cause and effect."
"When this chaos is artificially made orderly, it becomes 'order'. 'Order' placed in the open is rules; 'order' hidden behind the scenes is hidden rules."
"Faith, cause and effect, rules, hidden rules—everyone has their own purpose, everyone has their own part to play. There is no inferiority, nor nobility."
"All beings are ignorant, yet they hand their choices over to fate... No one can break free, nor will anyone try, because they all want to achieve their goals within their part."
Looking at Liens, who looked like a riddle-maker, Uria felt a bit antsy, wishing he could punch that expressionless face right now.
He could feel that there was a lot of deep meaning in Liens's words, but who the hell could understand that way of expressing things!
Would it kill him to speak more clearly?
He also wanted to understand some secrets, not be an ignorant "all being."
"Let's go, don't waste time."
Liens urged Uria to hurry up and stop spacing out. After saying that, he passed Uria and walked ahead.
Seeing this, Uria temporarily put aside his thoughts about the 'riddle' just now and stepped up to follow Liens. It was then that he noticed the strange phenomenon around them.
The busy soldiers seemed to completely ignore the two of them, yet they strangely avoided them on their own.
It was as if all beings, under an unknown influence, ignorantly walked towards the path they believed to be correct.
"Strange, too strange. Is the Grandmaster Realm always this eerie?"
Uria felt no special power around him, as if the current phenomenon was completely normal.
This eerie situation made him feel a chill in his heart, and a trace of fear he didn't even notice himself appeared in his gaze towards Liens.
"Faith, cause and effect, rules, hidden rules..."
Lucrezia looked at the two figures gradually disappearing into the distance with deep eyes, softly muttering to herself. After a while, her figure transformed into a bubble and vanished from the spot.
