Chapter 184: Darleon The Conquerer
Lavosier lifted his eyes from a mechanical part he was repairing with his artificial finger, which emitted a blue flame. He looked at Domarto.
"You're late. We need to prepare."
Domarto pulled out a chair and sat down.
"I was delayed by an ignorant, reckless boy who still clings to the myths of the Lunix and Ghlizan. But he was executed to be an example to others. What saddens me is that after years and years of our stay here, nothing has changed."
The historian Rouchi intervened.
"True. In fact, these Ghlizan have become more intelligent, more studious of their history, and more understanding. Yesterday, I went to the Tree of Knowledge and saw the danger posed to us by this hateful library and the largest house of worship on the planet next to it. They derive their superstitious faith from it and rely on their books and heritage to resist us. Our research has proven that most of the Prince's men are from the inhabitants of the cities and villages surrounding this cursed tree. We must uproot it to quell the fires of rebellion."
Domarto smiled sarcastically.
"So you couldn't silence them with logic, so you want to burn their largest library and their greatest tree on the planet. What will the rest of the universe's philosophers say about us after the rational and logical arguments we write in our books?"
Lavosier replied,
"And what is the difference between you and him, Domarto? You killed a young boy today because he wasn't convinced by your argument!"
Domarto looked at him sharply.
"There is a big difference between this and that. This boy broke the law and spoke the Ghlizan language in the capital. I didn't kill him; the guards who enforce the law did. I tried to save him from his misguidance and talked to him for a long time, trying to convince him to be logical and strip off the fleeting garment of heroism. I told him that if he followed reason alone, he might become my student one day. But he didn't care about any of this and chose to sacrifice himself for his delusions and the myths he believes in."
The historian Rouchi adjusted his glasses.
"Your empty philosophy, Domarto, won't convince anyone outside the planet of the Franks. You two understand nothing about the laws of history. Every nation cherishes its history, even if it is full of lies and atrocities. To facilitate complete dominance over this nation, you must uproot these historical roots and make them history-less. You must make them forget their historical memory and everything they believe in. Thus, they become a blank page on which it is easy to write what we want. And so they will desire a history for themselves that saves them from this feeling of loss. Then we offer them the history we want. That is, the history of those who embraced the ideas of the Franks and sought to change the condition of their peoples for the better in order to weave a great civilization sung by the universe. Don't you see what I see?"
Lavosier nodded.
"You are right. But spreading scientific facts that contradict the customs and traditions of the people of this planet also helps to increase their awareness and then question what they believed in. We dazzle them with our machines, our sciences, and our progress, and we have sent scientific missions to our planet so that the youth of Ghlizan can learn various sciences on our planet and return carrying the torch of the Franks in enlightenment and science. These young people will enter the hearts of the people of this planet more than we can. For we are hated here."
Domarto crossed his legs.
"The true path to change is to change the world of ideas. And we have done this by forbidding them from speaking their language, so they will forget how to read its letters over time and refrain from reading their books because they are incomprehensible. And they will read our books, our stories, our philosophy, and our history because they are easy and suit the new tongue they speak. And so the Ghlizan will abandon their primitive history on their own without the need to burn the tree and the library and provoke their resentment and the resentment of the Prince."
Rouchi furrowed his brow.
"Changing the language is undoubtedly important. But they are secretly learning their language and preserving it. And with the scholars in the Tree of Knowledge continuing to spread their nonsense, nothing will change. We must cut off the roots of those scoundrels so that it is easy for us to make the change we want."
Lavosier, returning to repairing the metal piece in his hand, said,
"Have you consulted the army commanders on this dangerous matter? Because they are the ones who will bear the consequences of rebellion and the outbreak of violence throughout the planet of Ghlizan. We may find the Ghlizan rising to save the tree from all over the planet, inflicting heavy financial and military losses on us that lead us to flee the planet."
Domarto sighed gloomily, his face darkening.
"If Emperor Darleon had not lost, this would not be our situation. We wasted many years on this miserable planet to no avail other than obtaining the precious Palladium metal. Emperor Darleon was our strongest chance to penetrate the Lunix Empire and wrest this planet from them. This planet would have changed the entire universe if we had taken it, and the true goal of the Franks and philosophers' revolution would have been achieved. But Darleon was defeated a crushing defeat on this planet at the hands of the Lunix Empire, and he said his famous sentence, 'My dream was shattered on the rock of ignorance.'"
Lavosier shrugged.
"The Lunix Empire still has some strength. Also, Darleon wanted to unite all the Zurix empires under one empire of which he would be the master and we the leaders, but he provoked their resentment and united them against him, and they had never united for centuries. These wars cost us a lot, and we still bear their consequences on our shoulders to this day. I do not deny that Darleon was a military genius who will not appear again. But if he had focused his efforts and forces on defeating the Lunix and seizing the planet we wanted, we would not be sitting on this miserable planet of Ghlizan bemoaning our luck."
Rouchi said, remembering the history of Darleon, which he had recorded himself,
"Darleon rid us of the clergy and tightened his control over the planet Talios, the headquarters of the superstitions of the Candle religion, and arrested the Prince of the Apostles (the greatest religious authority of the Zurix) and threw him into the Franks prisons without fear for years and years, and he did not come out until after his death and returned to the seat of the Apostle and his previous religious authority. This man still influences the Zurix, but we will soon ignite revolutions throughout the Zurix empires and end the authority of the monks forever. Long live the Age of Enlightenment."
Domarto was silent for a moment, then an idea flashed in his head.
"I have a good idea."
They looked at him with interest and signaled for him to tell them.
