Chapter 1360: Beginning the Treatment
When Yuga arrived at the Pokémon Center, Joyka was busy serving the Trainers dining at the center's restaurant.
Seeing Yuga enter, she asked in confusion, "Why are you here again? I don't have any more money for you to earn!"
Yuga chuckled and replied, "This time, it's the opposite—I'm here to make you some money."
Joyka, still puzzled, handed her serving tray to Blissey, instructing it to take care of the customers. Then she said to Yuga, "Come on, let's talk inside."
Once inside the Pokémon Center, Yuga took out five Poké Balls and got straight to the point, "I have some sick Pokémon here. Can you help check them out?"
Joyka took the Poké Balls and placed them all on a machine. The screen immediately displayed 3D images of the Pokémon inside the Poké Balls.
"So they're Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise!" She skillfully operated the machine while asking Yuga, "What symptoms have they been showing?"
Yuga proceeded to explain everything the Blastoise had gone through.
After a thorough examination, Joyka pondered for a moment before saying, "Based on what you've described, these Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise are very likely poisoned!"
"Poisoned?" Yuga asked in surprise.
Joyka nodded, "Their symptoms strongly resemble heavy metal poisoning!"
"So that's it!" Yuga exclaimed. He had suspected that the so-called curse was something else entirely.
"But we need further tests to be certain," Joyka added. She removed the Poké Balls from the machine and headed toward another room, prompting Yuga to quickly follow.
Upon entering the room, Joyka released the Pokémon. Two Squirtle, two Wartortle, and a Blastoise appeared on the floor.
Seeing the unfamiliar surroundings, the Squirtle and Wartortle grew uneasy and instinctively looked to Blastoise, who in turn looked to Yuga.
Yuga reassured them with a gentle smile, "Don't worry. This person is here to help treat you."
Hearing this, Blastoise quickly called out to the Squirtle and Wartortle, and they immediately calmed down.
Joyka took out a few syringes and, with a warm smile, said to the Pokémon, "I need to take a little of your blood for testing. It won't hurt, so don't be afraid."
Seeing the sharp needles, the Pokémon couldn't help but feel nervous and instinctively looked at Yuga again.
Yuga comforted them with a smile, "If you're scared, just close your eyes. It'll be over in no time."
As Joyka had promised, the Pokémon closed their eyes, and within moments, the blood samples were collected without them feeling any pain.
With the samples in hand, Joyka got to work on the tests. Without turning her head, she said to Yuga, "The results won't be available today. You should head back for now. I'll keep them here since I need their cooperation for a few more tests."
"Alright, I'll head back then," Yuga nodded and turned to the Pokémon, "Stay here and don't worry. I'll come check on you tomorrow. Hopefully, we'll find a solution to your problem soon."
Although the five Pokémon were uneasy, they still nodded obediently.
When Yuga arrived home, Dodo and the others had already set the table and were sitting by it, waiting for him.
After washing his hands, Yuga returned and said, "Alright, let's eat!"
As they ate, Yuga suddenly turned to Ninetales, who was using its psychic powers to pick up food, and asked, "Did Joyka get the medicine for you?"
"I got it," Ninetales replied. Having obtained the hair growth medicine, its mood had significantly improved, and its tone was noticeably lighter.
"That's good!" Yuga sighed in relief. If there was no cure for this, who knew if this "grand lady" would go crazy.
Ninetales ate quickly, and after finishing its meal, it jumped off the chair and said to Dou Dou, "Hurry up and finish eating, you need to apply the medicine for me afterward."
"Audino~"
Got it, I'll be right there.
The next morning, after waking up, Yuga first took a walk around the Ecopark to check on the Pokémon's training progress. After returning and having breakfast, he went to his new store's workshop, as usual, to practice making Pokéblocks and incense.
Around noon, he left the new store and headed to the Pokémon Center.
Lunchtime was the busiest time at the Pokémon Center, with the restaurant packed full of Trainers having lunch. Joyka and Blissey were overwhelmed with work.
As Verdanturf Town grew more prosperous, the Pokémon Center had also become busier. Sometimes Yuga really thought Joyka should hire some assistants.
She had even pulled out the Pokémon sent by the Joy family to act as her bodyguards to help with the workload, yet sometimes she was still too busy to spare a moment.
When Joyka saw Yuga, she didn't have the time to greet him, so Yuga had no choice but to find a seat and wait for her.
Being the shameless person he was, Yuga not only refrained from helping but also ordered a meal and started eating, earning himself a huge glare from Joyka.
Yuga didn't mind at all and happily enjoyed his food. He had noticed earlier that the Pokémon Center was offering a special Chansey egg dish, limited to one serving, and any diner had a chance to win a free taste. He wondered if he would be lucky enough to get it.
Even though he had his own Blissey and Audino at home and didn't lack such delicacies, today was just about having fun.
He also didn't forget to call home and inform Dodo that he wouldn't be coming back for lunch, so they wouldn't wait for him.
The food at Verdanturf Town's Pokémon Center restaurant was quite delicious. Although it couldn't compare to Dou Dou's cooking, Yuga felt it was better than what most other Pokémon Centers offered.
Unfortunately, luck was not on Yuga's side this time, and the prized Chansey egg dish went to a little boy instead.
The egg was made into a large serving of omurice, looking incredibly delicious, making many of the Trainers eating their regular meals drool in envy. Suddenly, the food they were eating didn't seem as appetizing anymore.
Once Joyka finally finished her work, she angrily threw the cloth in her hand onto the table in front of Yuga and said in frustration, "I've been busy to death, and you didn't even think to lend a hand."
"Why should I help you? You're not paying me!" Yuga said with a grin. "I told you, you should apply for two assistants. If you keep being this busy every day, you'll work yourself to exhaustion!"
Pokémon Centers all over the world were essentially joint ventures between the League and the Joy family, though the League held the dominant authority. It wouldn't be difficult for Joyka to request additional staff, and in larger cities, Pokémon Center staff numbers were no fewer than those of regular restaurants or hotels.
The Nurse Joy there doesn't have to do any chores at all; she only needs to focus on treating Pokémon. Unlike Joyka, who works herself to exhaustion like a spinning top.
"Alright, come with me. The test results are out," Joyka glared at Yuga before turning around and walking away.
After entering the examination room from yesterday, Joyka handed Yuga a report and said, "Just as I suspected, the Squirtle are indeed suffering from heavy metal poisoning."
Yuga kept flipping through the report, but there were too many professional terms he didn't understand. Joyka had to explain them to him one by one.
The elements causing the Squirtle' heavy metal poisoning were completely unfamiliar to Yuga—probably unique to the Pokémon world. This element possesses extremely strong radioactivity, which can rapidly deteriorate cellular life.
After finishing her explanation, Joyka said, "I'm not particularly skilled in treating heavy metal poisoning. I haven't come up with a specific treatment plan yet. I'll consult with specialists and then devise a detailed treatment plan for them."
"Can they be cured?" Yuga asked.
"Don't worry. The treatment technology in this field is already quite advanced. There won't be any issues. Also, the Squirtle and Wartortle that haven't shown symptoms yet must also undergo treatment. They may look fine, but they've already been affected," Joyka added.
"Got it. But the situation with Blastoise is quite serious. Can it hold out until the treatment plan is ready?" Yuga asked worriedly.
"Come with me."
Joyka led Yuga to a ward, and through the glass window, he saw that Blastoise's condition had significantly improved.
"I administered medicine to Blastoise to slow down its cellular deterioration. It should be fine for now."
"That's such a relief!"
At that moment, Blastoise noticed Yuga through the window. With the shadow of impending doom lifted, its mood improved a lot, and it waved at Yuga in a relaxed manner.
"I'm telling you now, even though treatment for this condition is well-developed, the costs aren't cheap. You better start preparing the money!" Joyka was clearly planning to make a good profit from Yuga.
"You wouldn't scam me, right?" Yuga asked with a fake look of terror.
"What are you thinking? Am I that kind of person? I charge according to the regulations," Joyka replied, giving Yuga a hard pat on the back.
"Hehe, just kidding, just kidding," Yuga said with a grin. "How could the beautiful and kind girl like you ever do something so shady?"
"Hmph!" Joyka glared at him fiercely.
After checking on Blastoise, Joyka led Yuga out and mercilessly shooed him away. "Alright, if there's nothing else, go home. Stop getting in the way here. I've got plenty to do and no time to entertain you!"
"Alright then."
Just as Yuga was about to leave, Joyka seemed to remember something and called out, "You have more Squirtle and Wartortles that need treatment, right? Bring them all over when the treatment plan is ready!"
"Got it!"
Yuga waved goodbye and left the Pokémon Center.
Days quickly passed, and Yuga received notification from Joyka that the treatment plan was ready. She asked him to bring the remaining Squirtle and Wartortles to the Pokémon Center.
When Yuga arrived with all of them, Joyka was stunned to see nearly two hundred Pokémon. "This many? The Pokémon Center won't have enough space for them all."
One of the treatment methods Joyka planned involved chemotherapy, which required specialized equipment. Without enough space, the treatment wouldn't be possible.
"What should we do then?" Yuga was also stunned. "How about we move it to my gym?" There were plenty of empty rooms in the gym, and it was very spacious.
"That means we'll have to move the equipment over." Joyka frowned and said. The equipment was borrowed from a friend, not something that belonged to Verdanturf Town's Pokémon Center. It was extremely expensive, and if it got damaged, she wouldn't be able to afford to pay for it.
"Then let's move it. If you need any help, just let me know."
"Alright then, but you better be careful. If anything breaks, you'll have to pay for it." Joyka finally nodded in agreement.
"I'll pay if it breaks. I don't believe I can't afford it!" Yuga was wealthy, and after acquiring Juyuan, he had even more money. Joyka couldn't compare to him.
"Yeah, yeah, you're the rich one!" Joyka said with jealousy and envy.
Once all the necessary equipment was moved to Verdanturf Gym, Joyka began the treatment.
In order to treat the Squirtle properly, many rooms in the gym had to be converted into hospital wards, which took Yuga quite a bit of effort.
Yuga truly spared no expense in treating the Squirtle!
It would take at least one to two months for the Squirtle to fully recover. During this period, Joyka would need to constantly adjust the treatment plan according to their recovery progress, leaving no room for carelessness.
In addition to chemotherapy, the Squirtle also needed medication to complement the treatment. These medications were all specially formulated by Joyka herself. The money Yuga earned from her ended up going right back into her hands.
Days quickly passed, and it had already been some time since Gengar and Mismagius obtained the Soul Crystals and fell into a deep sleep in the shadow space. They had shown no signs of movement, which made Yuga a bit worried. So, he called out Palossand to ask about the situation.
As soon as Palossand appeared, Yuga noticed that its aura had become much stronger, so he activated his Insight skill.
...
[ Palossand ]
Type: Ghost, Ground
Ability: Water Compaction
Gender: Male
Potential: Green
Level: 68
Moves: Harden, Sand Attack, Sand Tomb, Iron Defense, Absorb, Mega Drain, Giga Drain, Hypnosis, Shadow Ball, Sand Gather, Earth Power, Sandstorm, Amnesia, Gravity, Pain Split, Grudge, Astonish, Mud Shot, Psychic, Sludge Bomb, Skill Swap.
...
As expected, Palossand had leveled up significantly. More importantly, its potential aura had become much brighter, glowing far more than before, and it was now faintly emitting a bluish-green hue. It seemed that it wouldn't be long before it fully transformed into a blue potential.
This was undoubtedly the work of the Geovena Stone.
The Geovena Stone truly lived up to being one of Regigigas' treasured possessions. No wonder it took Regigigas a great deal of time to condense it. In such a short period, it had already brought such a significant change to Palossand.
Unfortunately, Palossand's foundation was weak, and it couldn't rapidly absorb the earth essence within the Geovena Stone; otherwise, its progress might have been even more remarkable.
"Not bad, not bad! You're improving so quickly, keep it up!" Yuga praised Palossand happily.
"Palossand~"
Palossand wiggled its body, feeling extremely happy at receiving Yuga's praise, and promised to continue working hard.
"By the way, how are Gengar and Mismagius doing? They've been quiet for so long, and I'm getting a little worried," Yuga asked again.
"Palossand~"
Palossand reassured Yuga that Gengar and Mismagius were doing well. Not only were they fine, but they seemed to be getting stronger and stronger. In fact, Palossand hardly dared to approach them anymore.
Hearing Palossand's response, Yuga finally felt relieved.
