Chapter 24
Four Great Forces.
The actual rulers of the world, reigning over the underworld while dealing with [Abnormality].
Each of these forces has its own characteristics.
The [Alliance], which has claimed to be the guardians of the world since the mythological era.
The [Company], which collects [Abnormality] derived from modern civilization and has gained immense power, enjoying the greatest authority now.
These two are the moderates.
Needless to say, the now-defunct [Alliance] and the [Company], grounded in modern civilization, do not wish for the collapse of the current order.
“Even the alliance requests are just like that.”
The alliance requests from the [Company] have various complex reasons at play, but ultimately, it would be an effort to maintain the crumbling order slightly due to the disappearance of the [Alliance].
In reality, [Broadcasting Station] had also completed its preparations for the next era.
“[Artist] huh….”
A giant force belonging to the radicals, unlike the moderates, [Alliance], which relied on the atypical strength of the Alliance Leader, or the [Company], which primarily focuses on tools imbued with [Abnormality], this group consists of psychos who have thrown themselves into [Abnormality] itself.
They hate order, love chaos, and call the pain and agony of others “art” in their madness.
A disheveled man with unkempt hair wearing paint-splattered suspenders.
“Bloom beautifully! Bloom wide and bright!”
As he swings his paint-splattered brush, a grotesque plant stem is drawn on the wall, splattered with paint.
Crunch—
Plant stems burst forth, slicing through the wall.
In an instant, from the tips of the giant stems, flowers that evoke disgust bloom.
“Cough—”
“Gah!”
Entities collapsing, faces turning pale as they are engulfed in pollen that must have some kind of toxin.
Those fallen entities are swallowed by the flowers.
“Hehe! It looks prettier! Get even prettier!”
[Painter]
A madman who distorts the world with his painting, claiming the world is not beautiful.
A bizarre creature juggling colorful balls while wearing a hat mixed with red, yellow, and blue shades, adorned with playful makeup, wanders the streets.
“Fufufu!”
Laughing in delight, he throws the juggling balls into the city.
Boom—
Colorful balls crash against the walls, causing explosions of vibrant colors that match the colors of the balls all around.
Buildings crumble in an instant.
Even though they are not weak constructions of reality, but [Abnormality] of the [Ordinary City], they cannot withstand.
An explosion that seems to want to shatter the world.
And from the smoke of the explosion, small clowns spring forth.
Clowns wielding daggers in both hands assault the entities.
[Clown]
A killer clown enjoying slaughter while feasting on people’s fear and screams with laughter.
[Painter] and [Clown]
They are terrorists that the [Alliance], known as the best among the [Artists] for mere destruction, keeps wary of.
“Burn it.”
Boom—
Where they once stood, a torrent of flames spills down like a waterfall.
“Do you like the welcome?”
Yes,
Terrorist.
That hits the mark perfectly.
Just grasping the power of [Abnormality] and recklessly rampaging according to their own desires — trash.
What gall they have.
“What kind of guts do they have to come this far?”
They came to rampage in places where they wouldn’t even bother being scared of the Alliance Leader, attacking as soon as the [Alliance] collapsed.
“Did I look like an easy target?”
At that moment, the flames that seemed like they would burn endlessly begin to die down.
Not through anything I intended, but by an external factor, the flames are fading.
“What is that….”
Sizzle—
Steam rises from a giant sphere of water.
Finally, as if it reached its limit, the sphere bursts, and two figures emerge at that spot.
I looked at the gray sphere floating above my shoulder and said.
“… Isn’t your fire surprisingly useless?”
“Uh… No….”
It seems like it did a lot…
But thinking back, aside from the shadow soldiers, did it even have any other hits?
It’s all so flashy yet lacking substance….
“Hehe…. Even divine flames, in the face of art, are merely a painting.”
The [Painter] says with a sinister smile.
“What nonsense. Just an item-boosting subject.”
Loving art.
Not being able to paint well.
The [Painter] seems to be having a fit, yelling something, but I was lost in another concern.
‘Is my rank too low after all?’
D+
I absorbed and got resurrected by getting defeated, but my abilities weakened.
For now, it seems like the power increases due to the [Divine] mixing with the [Fire], but…
‘That doesn’t work well against the Gangs Pacts either.’
The [Painter] itself is nothing special.
At best, E?
The problem is the [Brush] it’s holding.
“About B level, I guess.”
It’s got an audacious item.
“Let’s see, one broken building, two….”
Hmm….
Well, I could just take it as a compensation.
*
Since the fall of the [Alliance], a cocky guy jumped up claiming he would take its place.
The image of Han Yu-seong spreading in the underworld was generally like that.
Yeah, I know he’s strong.
He must be strong, having defeated that Alliance Leader.
So, how strong is he?
Everyone had that question.
Even though the unbelievable event happened where the Alliance Leader got killed by that little boy, no one placed Han Yu-seong over the Alliance Leader.
It’s only natural.
With techniques touching [Miracle] and an extraordinary [Momentum].
Having lived through the mythological era, adept in [Magic] and [Rituals], he also has expertise in politics and strategy.
Truly, he’s a jack-of-all-trades.
A master who has mastered all fields and reigned supreme in the world for a long time.
The reason for the Alliance Leader’s defeat was ultimately that he didn’t know his opponent well enough.
As his plans went awry, he felt anxious and dispatched [Skoll] and [Hati], which ultimately became his downfall.
In truth, the Alliance Leader’s judgment wasn’t terribly wrong.
Logically, would there be anyone who could dare oppose the [Fraternal Gods] within that [Ragnarok]?
A tactic involving the barriers of [Ragnarok].
A seal that no being could breach throughout the long ages.
Of course, there were guesses on how to dismantle it.
In mythology, the [Fraternal Gods] were the trigger for [Ragnarok],
Would the other forces be too foolish to not know that?
It’s about facing a complete [God] in a weakened state within the barrier.
No force would even dare attempt such a feat.
Not even the Alliance Leader himself could accomplish it.
But then, such a thing happened.
Ridiculously so.
Due to the lack of information about the opponent, [Skoll] died, and [Ragnarok] crumbled.
He underestimated the opponent’s strength, let his guard down, and allowed the first blow, leading to his defeat.
Yes, the Alliance Leader lost because he underestimated and let his guard down.
That was the common conclusion drawn by all forces in the underworld.
Naturally, no one suspected he’d have caught [Skoll] through normal means.
The lack of information.
There was something that even caused the downfall of the [Alliance].
Thus, to avoid treading the same path as the [Alliance], the other forces wanted to know what that something was.
So….
The [Clown], who recklessly launched an attack to discover that hidden something, thought while witnessing the scene before him.
‘It’s a monster.’
Every time the [Painter]’s [Brush] is drawn, numerous [Objects] are created, raining down attacks.
The [Abnormality] that absorbs the user’s mental imagery and projects it into reality.
The [Painter] is weak and foolish, but since he’s holding that [Brush], he’s recognized as the top power on the [Artists] side.
The synergy between the deranged [Painter], whose mental world is twisted and filled with madness, and that [Brush] is overwhelmingly powerful.
In reality, even if his firepower is weak, he still defended against flames infused with [Divine].
That is truly the realm of [Miracle].
But that [Painter] is….
“To be pushed back like that.”
There’s no even need to hit for it to connect.
Just grazing the trajectory causes [Objects] to shatter.
‘That shouldn’t break so easily.’
Each drawing by the [Painter] is an [Abnormality].
As he reached the realm of [Miracle] with the synergy of the [Brush], the power contained in each [Object] is by no means trivial.
It might not compare to a [God] with [Divine] but strictly speaking based on specs, it’s an [Abnormality] comparable in level.
Even those things that wouldn’t fall short of modern [Ghost Stories] crumble fruitlessly.
“Truly, he’s the one who caught that Alliance Leader.”
I still don’t think he’s stronger than the Alliance Leader.
The power of a being who reached such all-around excellence is not something that beings like us could measure.
But.
‘At least he’s on that lower level!’
It’s rough and unrefined.
Primitive and uncivilized.
Rather than human combat, it’s raw like that of a beast.
The strength that’s in stark contrast to the Alliance Leader, who reached the pinnacle of technique.
There’s hardly any trace of [Abnormality] in the punches that tear through space.
The shockwave generated from an ordinary jump shakes the thoughts imbued in the [Objects].
Just as the Alliance Leader’s techniques touched [Miracles] to surpass space, he shakes the space with pure power.
The purest form of force.
Truly, the embodiment of violence.
‘But there’s a way to deal with this.’
Unlike the truly versatile Alliance Leader, it’s a brute simpleton.
There are countless ways to hunt a monster.
Pick—
I felt the connection from afar snapping.
After luring out the man who killed the Alliance Leader, I sent clowns to the enemy’s main base to explore how [Skoll] was killed, but for some reason, every time they approached the vicinity, they ended up dying without exception.
Gathering information from clowns dying off without any battle is impossible.
“The losses are significant.”
I intended to expend the [Painter], but all I got was that Han Yu-seong is a monster.
Having got a rough sense of how to deal with him, I haven’t come away totally empty.
‘[Is focusing on the Painter blinding me to other matters?]’
If I ambush from behind like this, I might not be able to get the [Painter], but can I at least recover the [Brush]?
I contemplated for a moment, but ultimately that won’t work.
There’s no need to unnecessarily provoke a crazed beast now.
And beside me, the [God].
Seeing it erase occasional attacks with fire, even the success of the ambush is uncertain.
It seems a bit weak, and even now, I can’t see any obstruction if I put forth some force….
‘No need to rush.’
For now, retreat here….
“Huh?”
As I decided to retreat and pulled my body back, my vision tilted.
Why?
“I was planning to leave you alive since you seemed high up, but you can’t just run away.”
From my lower half sliding back, my upper body flowed down and fell to the ground.
A clean cut.
Truly, was that even possible….
Thinking that there wouldn’t be any ranged attack method was my complacency.
As I took in the sight of Han Yu-seong ripping out the [Painter]’s arm… the consciousness of the [Clown] went dark.
“That crazy monster….”
His voice, stripped of the light-hearted laugh in the darkness, echoed softly.
