Chapter 22.1
Shuri couldn’t understand the situation at all.
“Daya! Dayaya (I told you, not there)!”
“Daya (Not going straight)?”
“Daya-ya (Do you want to die)?”
No matter how he thought about it, it seemed absurd to be getting hit by his younger cousin while walking.
Moreover, it’s not just normal walking.
“Daya (This way)!”
“Dayaya (Can’t you understand? Idiot)!”
…Was he getting scolded since earlier, or was he just imagining things?
Shuri wandered around the Duke’s mansion with Isaac on his back.
Initially, he intended to leave Isaac and return to his room, but the darn kid wouldn’t let go of Shuri.
What kind of infant has this much strength?
Clinging to his back, to his neck.
And if Shuri didn’t hold him properly, Isaac would start hitting him, complaining about being uncomfortable.
Just when he thought maybe Isaac wanted to play, Isaac pointed somewhere.
And when he moved as directed, if it wasn’t the direction Isaac wanted, he would get kicked.
‘Damn it, even horses aren’t this stubborn!’
Being treated like a horse by the younger cousin, tears welled up in Shuri’s eyes.
Of course, Isaac was just a baby.
Shuri could’ve easily thrown him into a pond if he wanted.
[What are you doing without moving the King!]
“Ahh!”
Every time he harbored such thoughts, the Shadow Lich appeared.
‘Damn, it wasn’t a dream!’
He tried to deny reality, but this creature was indeed following Isaac.
The reason was unknown.
But one thing was certain.
If he harmed the kid, the Shadow Lich would kill him.
So Shuri felt extremely wronged.
‘What on earth did you pick up, uncle?’
Did he bring home a disguised demon while trying to catch the Skeleton King?
What was even more baffling was the place Isaac led him to.
‘Why here of all places?’
Shuri trembled at the sight of the towering second annex.
‘This is the haunted mansion!’
It was the mansion even his family members avoided.
No one lived there now, and it was a place Shuri’s parents strictly warned him about.
‘I’ve heard that many of our family members died there…’
It was said to be a cursed place.
So Shuri thought there might be a garden nearby and tried to change directions sneakily.
“Dayayayaya (You want to die? Aren’t you going straight)?!!”
He was immediately hit by the child on his back.
So Shuri couldn’t understand.
‘Why are we going to a place even the head of the family forbade?’
Getting caught by the adults would mean more than just a scolding!
On the other hand, Isaac looked at the mansion and smiled sinisterly.
Just by feeling the eerie atmosphere, one could tell how neglected the place was.
But now it became even clearer.
‘As expected, magic cores are piled up there.’
And it’s even larger than what he sensed initially.
Ten years, no, decades of magical energy was stored here.
It implied the presence of hundreds, if not thousands, of demon corpses.
‘Technically not corpses because they’re magic cores, but anyway.’
It was surprising.
It wasn’t a mere accumulation of magic due to their exorcist lineage.
A war?
No, demons might have been attracted here, like moths to a flame.
However, it’s odd for the Saintess’s family to leave the place abandoned after summoning and killing demons.
‘Had it been a site of exorcism, it would’ve been considered sacred by now.’
Every time a great deed was performed, religious folks would build sanctuaries and temples to torment demons.
But treating such a significant place as cursed?
There were many curious points, but it wasn’t that important.
What’s important now is that there’s magic cores here, right?
Absorbing all of it would give him decades worth of magical power, which was crucial.
So Isaac grabbed Shuri’s hair.
Shuri screamed, stating that they shouldn’t enter, that they’d be in big trouble if caught. However, a single move from the Shadow Lich silenced him.
The inside of the annex was eerier than the outside.
[It feels like looking at a poverty-stricken home.]
Hey, shut up.
[It’s problematic. The magic cores seems to be inside a room, but as expected from the Saintess’s family. The entire mansion is sealed, and all doors are locked. We might not be able to get in.]
Why can’t we?
If it’s locked, we can break in.
Isaac looked at Shuri.
Shuri was trembling more than before.
“Hey, isn’t it enough that we’ve come this far? Let’s go back… Anyway, everything’s locked up, so we can’t even enter the rooms.”
“Daya!”
“Damn it, what did you see now? Fine!”
What Isaac was looking at was the tall wall in the lobby leading to the second floor.
There were portraits hanging on it.
They appeared to be portraits of the family’s past heads.
Seeing him gaze at the portraits, Shuri teased:
“Look at this guy. Do you aspire to be a family head too? Are you paying respects to our great ancestors? It’s futile. When there were only women, they would bring in a son-in-law, but there are many men in this generation! The next head of the family will be me…”
“Daya.”
With a snap of Isaac’s fingers, the portraits flew off the wall.
“Oh no! Our ancestors!”
Bang! Bang!
Crash!
Seeing the respected ancestors’ portraits falling, Shuri screamed.
What was that power just now?!
But that’s not what’s important right now.
“Have you lost your mind? How dare you disrespect our esteemed ancestors! Do you want to get kicked out?”
However, Isaac, who seemed irritated and threw away all the portraits with magic, merely snickered.
Family head, whatever.
Eventually, he would remove them all and hang his own portrait.
What Isaac was really interested in was not the portraits, but the magic seal on them.
