Chapter 31 - Ji Lingtian's Ugly Face
Seeing that Ji Lanqing’s emotions had stabilized, Jun Jiuxiao led her out of the carriage.
All eyes were already on the chariot drawn by nine flood dragons.
The first to emerge was a man with white hair and dark clothes, handsome and noble, wearing an ink-colored cloak.
Then, a woman with a red birthmark on the right side of her face stepped out.
Everyone realized that this must be the Holy Son of Xuantian and his unattractive maid.
Ji Yuexi and Ji Hao’s expressions changed slightly upon seeing the maid following Jun Jiuxiao, but they quickly regained their composure.
Ji Yuexi signaled to Ji Hao with her eyes, indicating that he should go fetch their parents. Ji Hao nodded in understanding and quietly retreated from the crowd.
The young master of the Qin family, seeing the maid behind Jun Jiuxiao and the reactions of the Ji siblings, knew his guess was correct. The Ji family was in for quite a show.
This banquet was only for the younger generation. The elders of the Ji family, including Ji Heng, did not attend.
The host of the banquet was Ji Heng’s own biological son, Ji Yu, who was now the uncle of Ji Yuexi and Ji Hao, thanks to Ji Lingtian acknowledging Ji Heng as his father.
Ji Yu personally came to welcome Jun Jiuxiao.
“I am Ji Yu, nephew of the Ji family patriarch. We humbly welcome the Xuantian Holy Son’s grand arrival. It is an honor for the Ji family and Yuexi that you could attend her awakening ceremony,” Ji Yu immediately tried to establish that Jun Jiuxiao was here to congratulate Ji Yuexi.
Ji Yu had heard about the incident between Ji Hao and Jun Jiuxiao at the Fu’an Chamber of Commerce. Since Jun Jiuxiao had already made Ji Wen cut off his own arm, he shouldn’t pursue the matter further.
But Ji Yu also feared Jun Jiuxiao might be here to cause trouble, so he first set the tone that Jun Jiuxiao was here to offer congratulations. Surely Jun Jiuxiao wouldn’t directly reject his gesture of goodwill.
After all, he had already introduced himself. While Jun Jiuxiao could dismiss Ji Wen and Ji Hao due to their lower status, surely he wouldn’t disregard the face of Ji Yu, the nephew of the Ji family patriarch.
When Jun Jiuxiao heard Ji Yu’s name, he almost laughed out loud.
Ji Yu? Opportunity? He wondered which hidden dragon or crouching tiger in the Ji family came up with these names, each one a homophone pun.
“I’m not here to attend some awakening ceremony for that Yuexi. That waste doesn’t deserve it,” Jun Jiuxiao, feeling sorry for Ji Lanqing, spoke with particular venom.
Hearing this, Ji Yu’s smile froze on his face.
The crowd fell silent. If Ji Yuexi’s Fire Spirit Body was considered waste, what did that make them? Waste among waste? This Xuantian Holy Son was far too arrogant.
The young master of the Qin family, however, looked visibly excited, secretly cheering for Jun Jiuxiao to crush the Ji family.
Ji Yuexi’s face turned pale with anger and frustration. This was the first time someone had called her waste. She wanted to rush at Jun Jiuxiao, but he revealed his late stage Self-Severing Realm cultivation.
Ji Yuexi had just entered the Nascent Soul stage and was no match for Jun Jiuxiao. She could only glare at him with hateful eyes.
Noticing Ji Yuexi’s gaze, Jun Jiuxiao coldly warned, “If you dare to look at me with that kind of look again, I will gouge out your eyes.”
Ji Yuexi shuddered and quickly lowered her head, not daring to look at him again.
Ji Yu, being the Ji family’s legitimate son and holding a respected position within the family, was also revered by outsiders. This was the first time he had been so humiliated, and he was seething with anger.
But Ji Yu was not foolish; he knew that the Ji family couldn’t afford to offend the Xuantian Holy Land, so he had no choice but to swallow his anger.
He tried to smooth things over, stepping forward again, “Holy Son, please don’t joke around like that.”
“Are you calling me a joker?” Jun Jiuxiao replied, his expression dead serious as he stared at Ji Yu.
Ji Yu was at a loss for words, cursing Jun Jiuxiao inwardly. He dared not strike Jun Jiuxiao and knew he couldn’t win in a fight.
Moreover, the Ji family couldn’t afford to offend the Xuantian Holy Land.
His only option was to notify his father, Ji Heng, hoping he would arrive quickly. He couldn’t withstand Jun Jiuxiao’s overwhelming presence.
After Jun Jiuxiao’s response, everyone present understood—he was here to cause trouble.
Ji Heng hadn’t arrived yet, but Ji Lingtian and Ji Yuexi’s mother, Lin Su, had come.
Upon hearing from Ji Hao that Ji Lanqing had found support from the Xuantian Holy Son and had become his maid, Lin Su’s face immediately twisted into a snarl. She said harshly, “That little wretch should have been killed with a single stroke from the beginning.”
Ji Lingtian remained silent, deep in thought.
The three of them quickly rushed to the scene and saw Ji Yu, who was usually high and mighty in their presence, now being put in an awkward position by Jun Jiuxiao but still forced to smile.
Ji Lingtian glanced at Ji Lanqing behind Jun Jiuxiao, calculating something in his mind.
As soon as Lin Su arrived, she shot a venomous glare at Ji Lanqing, as if she wanted to tear her apart.
Jun Jiuxiao subtly shifted his stance, positioning himself in front of Ji Lanqing.
Seeing Ji Lingtian and Lin Su, the pain and hatred in Ji Lanqing’s heart surged again, nearly overwhelming her with violent rage. But when she noticed Jun Jiuxiao’s protective gesture, she quickly regained her composure.
Ji Lingtian noticed Jun Jiuxiao’s movement, and a flicker of joy crossed his mind. He put on a facade of a loving father, pretending to be pleasantly surprised as he addressed Ji Lanqing, “Lanqing, where have you been? I searched for you everywhere after you disappeared. I’m just glad you’re safe.”
Then, turning to Jun Jiuxiao, he said, “Thank you, Holy Son, for saving my Lanqing. I, Ji Lingtian, will be forever grateful.”
Ji Lanqing was so disgusted by Ji Lingtian’s words that she couldn’t help but vomit on the spot.
Lin Su and the Ji siblings, standing behind Ji Lingtian, were equally shocked by his words. Wasn’t Ji Lingtian the one who despised Ji Lanqing the most? Hadn’t he always considered Ji Lanqing and her mother to be the greatest shame of his life?
How had he suddenly become so fatherly?
Lin Su quickly figured it out—Ji Lingtian was trying to curry favor with Ji Lanqing now that she had allied herself with the Xuantian Holy Son.
Lin Su sneered. Ji Lingtian was dreaming if he thought he could curry favor. Ji Lanqing, that wretch, hated him the most and wished she could slice him into pieces.
The crowd was taken aback by this unexpected turn. Could it be that Ji Lingtian, after aligning himself with the main branch of the Ji family, was now trying to cozy up to the Holy Son as well?
If fathering a few children could bring such success, Ji Lingtian’s luck was truly enviable.
