I thoughtfully watched the young man who was staring at me with rage in his eyes. He couldn't scream because his mouth was gagged, as he'd been screaming before. Typical Asian appearance. It's possible he's Kimiko's countryman, which can't be ruled out. If she got here, why couldn't the others? And this guy was much more radical than she was. I see, being virtually invulnerable gives you an extra burst of courage.
- Hello, Homelander. - A full-bodied man with a short beard murmured through the door. His greyish eyes looked at me with awe and a touch of fear.
- Come in, Mesmer," I nodded, watching him hurriedly enter the room. - You know what to do.
- Yes, now. - The man exhaled, calming down and touched the Asian's bare skin.
An extremely entertaining ability - tactile telepathy. Memory reading, sometimes in minute detail. The only drawback is that the one using the ability can sense it perfectly. The Asian with regeneration also saw in great detail how his head was being shamelessly searched. That's why he tried to break out of captivity, convulsing. But he could not interfere in any way with the process, and if he resisted, he only felt pain, which made him moo harder.
- It's them again. The Shining Light Liberation Army," Mesmer muttered, mentioning the name of the organisation Kimiko had come from. - 'They arrived at the harbour, at night. And one of them picked up a ship and threw it to the ground.
- And where did they hide? At least roughly.
- They immediately split up, one of them left," the man squinted, as if trying to see something. - It's not clear what they were going to do next, I don't know their language.
- Is there something else?
- There was... Kenji, Kimiko's brother. He's the one who capsized the ship, he's the last of them. - Mesmer sighed, taking his hand away from the Asian and wiping the sweat on his forehead. This telepathy session had been hard enough on him.
- Are you alright? - I asked politely, seeing his shortness of breath.
- I'm fine. Just need to get some rest. - The man smiled impishly.
- Don't be so tense, there are not so many of such useful employees, - I smiled at him and lightly clapped him on the back. - And yes, thank you for your work.
- No, no, I should be thanking you. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have been able to meet my daughter and I wouldn't have got the job. I've been given a part, albeit a minor one. But still, I'll be playing alongside Blindspot. That's a great start.
- Congratulations," I smiled politely, pointing to the door. - Now can you leave us alone?
- Yeah, yeah, sure. Good luck, Homelander. - Mesmer replied hurriedly and dashed out the door. I turned back to the Asian and scrutinised his face.
- Kenji, then. - I muttered thoughtfully, wondering where he might be hiding.
- Sir, Miss Stillwell wants to see you. - Some girl's head poked out of the door, and she turned to me.
- Who the hell are you? - I asked her, remembering that Ashley had been fired after Starlight's antics. Madeline didn't hesitate at that.
- I'm Ashley. - The girl answered without delay.
- I'll remember that. - I nodded at her, barely containing a smile. The girl gave me a perplexed look and walked away.
I snorted, shook my head and headed for the lift. We acted very quickly, so that only two hours had passed since the memorable robbery. That means that the topic for discussion could be the abuse of criminals, which in that short time had definitely made its way onto the internet. I reached Stillwell's office, which had already moved to the ninety-ninth floor, next door to Stan Edgar. I entered without knocking, realising that she was only waiting for me and therefore not busy.
- Good afternoon, Madeline.
- Homelander," the woman nodded, sitting in her chair. - How's the investigation going?
- Not bad. There's only one more to find, but that shouldn't be a problem.
- That's good. What's not good... - Stillwell sighed and turned her laptop screen towards me.
The video clearly showed me breaking the legs of a man yelling in my face. Coupled with my bright red eyes, it looked gorgeous. And the amount of views it gets in a day.... gross.
- What are you gonna say? - I asked her doomedly, rolling my eyes.
- I'm not calling you to be some kind of saint," she got up from her chair and walked over to me. - But you should have tried to do it with less... blood.
- Madeline, I tried. It was the circumstances, you know that," she said, looking at her questioningly. - What did you come up with?
- We're gonna have to do a breaking news bulletin with your interview. And we are already actively deleting the video, although it will only delay the inevitable. We need to be proactive," she went to her desk and pulled out a stack of papers, handing them to me. - This is your script. You'll make edits where there's a discrepancy. And don't do anything amateurish.
- You got it, boss. - I snorted shamelessly, to which she smiled too.
- Okay, we're shooting in thirty minutes. You know which floor.

Sitting at the head of the table, I looked at the assembled team members who were ready to listen to me. Train-A couldn't participate in the meeting yet, for obvious reasons. And the absence of another team member was baffling, she hadn't missed them before.
- Where's Maeve? - Turned to the subordinates, which somehow suspiciously silent. Only Starlight raised her hand uncertainly. - Starlight?
- She left for, uh. family emergency. Someone in the family was in the hospital. That's what she said.
- I see, so there's no point in waiting for her now," I nodded, understanding the circumstances, though some things didn't add up. - Let's begin the emergency meeting. As you may know, two super-villains were involved in a bank robbery today. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
I stood up and took the remote control and showed the video from the bank's cameras where we prevented the robbery.
- I have a hunch that our arrival there was not planned. This is confirmed by the fact that there were three super-villains in total and the absence of the last one suggests that the robbery was spontaneous. Otherwise, they would have used every available force.
Next I switched to the following video, which shows the terrorists exiting the ship. It's still unclear who was responsible for transporting them, but they are being sought. Here, in the next seconds it shows how two of them did not share something and one of them, pointing his hands towards the ship, literally pulls it out of the water and throws it on land, thus hitting the offender. The reaction of the team was expected, as the super was powerful enough to kill at least three people and wreak such havoc in the city that no one would envy our reputation afterwards.
- How are they gonna find him? You can't see his face. - Deep said worriedly.
- The other two were Asian, probably the narrow-eyed one," suggested Stormfront, receiving a disapproving look from Starlight. - What? It's a fact.
- Mesmer was able to get into the head of one of the captured super-villains, and from his words we have the face of the last of them, - showed on the screen a drawing of a skinny Asian. - He's already being actively searched by all available cameras in the city.
- What do we do then? - Asked Stormfront, implying that the information he had given them was useless and that they should get to the point.
At that moment the gates opened, letting the Asian woman inside, who with a phlegmatic look calmly walked towards me, under the gaze of Stormfront's narrowed eyes. Kimiko showed me the last page of her notebook with a smile, where she was tracing out the letters.
- Not bad, Kimiko," I smiled at the pretty Asian girl. - Looks like you need a new notebook.
The girl nodded affirmatively and looked around, freezing when she saw Kenji's drawing. She turned sharply in my direction, looking concerned. You don't need to be a telepath to understand Kimiko's current state of mind.
- Don't worry, no one's going to hurt your brother.
- What do you mean? - Stormfront asked with a dash of indignation, pointing at the screen. - That's her brother? And who is she herself?
- Kimiko, this is Stormfront," I introduced her to the Asian woman, then turned to the new girl. - Kimiko is our official prisoner and former super-villain. Get used to it, her brother will be here soon.
- But they're terrorists, aren't they? - The woman frowned, seemingly trying to understand the logic behind my actions.
- First of all, they're supers, just like us," I said inspiringly. - It's not their fault they were born in the wrong place.
- You know... and you're right," she looked at me differently somehow, which was strange. - I was wrong. I'm sorry, Kimiko.
Silence looked at her suspiciously and nodded cautiously, while Stormfront looked at me questioningly.
- 'She's not talking,' I answered her and looked at the Asian woman. - 'Kimiko, now go to your room.
To which the girl shook her head sharply, then started making some gestures with her hands. Not for the first time, of course. So the meaning of her gestures I more or less already understood.
- I see, you want to participate in his capture. All right, you'll be involved," she stayed where she was, looking me in the eyes demandingly. - I promise.
Only after that she nodded and still walked towards the exit.
- She feels strongly about her brother. - Starlight tried to justify her friend's behaviour, getting an understanding nod from me.
- Let's recap. I have gathered you to keep you informed and fully informed. Also, I want you to be prepared for a possible emergency call and know that this capture will be broadcast on our TV channel. So no amateur sleuthing, Stormfront. - Looked sternly at the new girl as if she was the only one who might disobey my orders.
- Yes, sir. - She answered in the affirmative.
- That's good. That's it, you may go.
It was only when I was left in the empty hall that my gaze locked on Maeve's chair. Strange that she'd left for family reasons. Except that as far as I know, none of her relatives are alive anymore, of natural causes. So what's the family emergency? I'd have to check that out.
