Ignus and A'Moi

Chapter 36: Divine Revelation

The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the plains of Darcaya as the group stood near the city gates. The aftermath of the battle with the heretics still lingered in the air—tension, unease, and the echo of past violence. The city seemed quieter than usual, as though the land itself held its breath, waiting for the next storm to pass.

Ignus glanced at his companions, the faces of the travelers now etched with a new sense of resolve. The heretics had been repelled, but it was clear that their plans would not be so easily undone. The mission was far from complete, and Ignus knew the path ahead would be even more difficult than the one they'd just walked.

"I know we've just fought side by side, and the last few days have been intense for all of us," Ignus began, his voice carrying a note of gratitude but also determination. "But our paths diverge here—for a little while, at least."

The others stood in quiet acknowledgment, the weight of their shared experiences evident in their expressions.

Lena, the steely warrior whose strength had proved invaluable, stepped forward first. "You're right. We've done what we can for now, but there's still a long way to go. The heretics won't just disappear after one defeat."

Kira nodded, her usually sharp demeanor softened by the exhaustion of battle. "We'll meet back here tomorrow, after we've had some time to process everything. We still need to figure out what the next move is. We'll need to be ready."

"I'll be heading to the chapel to reflect for a bit," Ignus continued, glancing at the rest of the group. "I need some time to think, clear my mind. But I'll meet up with you all later. We'll decide what to do next."

Garren, the ever-optimistic rogue, grinned, though his usual light-heartedness was tempered with a seriousness that matched the moment. "I'll hold you to that, Ignus. Don't keep us waiting too long."

"You won't have to," Ignus reassured him with a slight smile. "I'll be quick. Just need to clear my head."

Lena stepped forward and placed a firm hand on his shoulder. "We'll meet back here tomorrow, at the guild. After you've had some time. We'll discuss what comes next."

With that, the group nodded and began making their way toward the inn, their minds no doubt already on the events to come. Ignus lingered a moment longer, watching them disappear into the distance, before turning toward the chapel

The chapel loomed ahead, its towering spires rising against the sky as Ignus approached. The world seemed to quiet around him as he entered, the familiar scent of incense filling the air. The peaceful atmosphere was a stark contrast to the tumult of the past few days. He had been in the midst of chaos—fighting for his life, for his friends, for the world itself—and now he found solace in the stillness of the chapel.

He walked toward the altar, his footsteps echoing off the stone floor as his mind drifted back to the battle. The heretics had been a powerful force, but their true intentions were still shrouded in mystery. And now, with Lilith looming on the horizon, he could feel the weight of his own uncertainty pressing on him.

"Ignus."

The voice came like a whisper, yet it carried the authority of the heavens. Ignus lifted his gaze and saw Gabriel, the Archangel, standing before him. A golden light radiated from Gabriel, bathing the chapel in warmth and brilliance. The Archangel's wings unfurled slightly, their immense span filling the space with an overwhelming presence.

"You knew I'd come," Ignus said softly, his voice tinged with exhaustion.

Gabriel's eyes glowed with wisdom, a calm and knowing presence that seemed to settle over Ignus like a blanket. "You always seek guidance in times of uncertainty. I have been waiting for you."

Ignus rose to his feet, his posture straightening as the weight of the conversation settled in. "I don't know what to do next. The heretics… they're still out there. And Lilith—"

Gabriel raised a hand, his expression both reassuring and solemn. "I know your concerns, Ignus. But you must understand that this is not a battle you face alone. The strength you seek is not just within yourself, but in the hearts of those who fight by your side."

Ignus's brow furrowed. "I can't help but feel I'm missing something. Something crucial. There's this darkness within me… this magic I can't tap into. Why can't I use it? Why can't I harness that power?"

Gabriel's gaze softened with understanding. "That darkness is not your true power, Ignus. You were never meant to wield such magic. You were chosen not for your capacity to control the shadows, but for your light—the purity of your heart. The strength that resides within you is not in dark magic, but in the connections you forge with others."

Ignus lowered his gaze, the weight of Gabriel's words pressing against his chest. "But if I can't use that magic, how can I face what's coming? How can I stop Lilith?"

Gabriel's voice was calm but filled with resolve. "Lilith is chaos incarnate. She represents destruction, the unraveling of the world. The heretics seek to use her to bring forth an age of suffering. But you, Ignus, you are the balance. Your power comes from the light within you, from your heart. It is through this light that you will find the strength to overcome her."

Ignus swallowed, trying to process the depth of Gabriel's words. "I'm not sure I understand. How do I stop Lilith? How do I prevent the heretics from succeeding?"

"You must seek the artifact they are after. It holds the key to Lilith's resurrection," Gabriel explained. "But be warned—the path will be fraught with danger. The artifact's power is immense, and the heretics will stop at nothing to claim it. But you are not alone in this fight, Ignus. Trust in your companions, in the bonds you've forged with them."

Ignus nodded slowly, his resolve solidifying with each of Gabriel's words. "I'll find it. I'll stop them. I won't let them bring her back."

Gabriel's gaze softened, and a faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "I have faith in you, Ignus. You are stronger than you realize. But remember—your true strength lies not in your power, but in your choices, and in the love and trust you share with those who fight beside you."

With those words, Gabriel began to fade, his light dimming as he returned to the divine realm. Ignus remained standing for a moment, his mind processing the weight of the conversation. The battle ahead would be formidable, but with Gabriel's guidance, he knew that he wasn't facing it alone.

The following morning, Ignus met with his companions at the guild, as promised. The travelers were already assembled, their faces a mix of exhaustion and determination.

"I know we've been through a lot, but we can't rest for long," Ignus said, his voice firm and resolute. "The heretics are still out there. We need to move quickly."

Lena, always the voice of reason, nodded. "We've rested enough. It's time to act."

Kira stepped forward, her expression steely. "We'll be ready. Let's make a plan. We need to figure out how to get to the artifact before the heretics do."

Garren grinned, though there was no lightness in his demeanor. "We'll get it done, Ignus. Don't worry."

Ignus glanced at each of them in turn, feeling the weight of their trust and loyalty. Together, they were stronger than any enemy they would face.

"We'll meet tomorrow, then. Prepare yourselves," Ignus said. "I'll see you all soon."

As the group dispersed to prepare, Ignus felt a newfound clarity within himself. The path ahead was still uncertain, but with his companions by his side and the strength of Gabriel's words guiding him, he knew they could face whatever darkness the future held.
