I Will Teach You How to Hunt Gods

Chapter 46: Dispersal

The little girl had been keeping an eye on the pink mist all along.

It appeared in old miner Miles' records and was often accompanied by extremely high humidity and temperature, causing what should have been a cool, dry mine to have an extreme heat sensation of over 50℃.

But realistically, this is impossible unless the bottom of the mine leads to an underground magma lake; otherwise, the overall temperature here cannot exceed 45℃.

Therefore, a more reasonable explanation is that the so-called high temperature is also an illusion given by "it," a false neural sensation.

It is worth mentioning that the moment Yun You began to feel the high temperature was precisely an hour after her HazMat suit was breached by the first vengeful corpse and when her wound contacted the mist.

This is almost exactly the same time that miner Miles experienced hallucinations after going into the mine, further proving that the high temperatures are actually the same type of interference as the hallucinations.

But the mist itself is real, and it is the only thing capable of constantly staying close to a person, silently enveloping their body, using extremely concealed means to influence them.

In this case, it's almost certain that "it's" body is the mist.

Yet, to be sure, Yun You used her Talent Ability [Future Sight], hearing in the future thirty seconds from now, the laughter "it" emitted after its plan succeeded.

The laughter seemed to have no source or trace, as if it appeared out of nowhere in her brain.

But upon careful listening, one would find that it came from all directions, from the fog permeating various parts of the mine tunnel.

Now, that would be conclusive proof.

So the little girl hesitated not at all as she plunged the knife into "it," causing a violent reaction that left it trembling and unable to hold back its painful cries.

As soon as it screamed, all the hallucinations and false perceptions began to fade away, bit by bit.

Yun You grinned, wiping the blood off the visor of her gas mask, casting a calm gaze at the world that reappeared before her eyes.

The first thing she saw, naturally, was the "heavily damaged" pink mist, which was "it."

Though it still maintained its mist form, the mist was quivering, much like a wounded victim with their organs pierced, trembling in fear and pain.

To be honest, Yun You had no idea how much damage that stab could cause to "it," but judging from its current reaction, it seemed to be in considerable pain.

Yun You pulled out the remaining diary from her pocket.

She found that the words in the diary had changed somewhat. Phrases full of "ambition" and "calm" were present, yet most of them had been replaced with "madness" and "loss of control."

And those three pieces of advice that were almost akin to "foresight" were completely missing.

It seemed that "it" had indeed altered part of the diary's content, making it more chaotic.

The only parts unchanged were Aurora's notes and the latter half of the foreman's diary.

One must admit, the girl Aurora was truly extraordinary beyond belief.

From the last piece of advice she left, it looked like she also saw through the essence of the pink mist and managed to escape somehow.

It was incredible.

Remember, Aurora was just an ordinary girl, with no powers like the Apprentice Death God, and she was sick, essentially solving this mystery with a weakened body...

Such insight and boldness were even greater than some Apprentice Death Gods.

After a moment of awe, Yun You turned around to find Jack and Frost Moon.

At the moment, Jack was standing behind the girl, looking at Yun You with concern.

"Chica... what was that just now?"

"Since you saw me and Frost Moon having lunch, your state seemed off, kind of dazed, not only ignoring people but also walking shakily, murmuring incomprehensible words..."

"Furthermore, you kept walking forward, faster and faster. We tried to stop you, but Chica, you slapped back at us... fortunate I reacted quickly, or you'd have dislocated my jaw."

"And why did the mist suddenly start bleeding, and won't stop..."

Hearing Jack's words, Yun You shook her head helplessly.

"Ah, it's a long story."

After a sigh, the girl recounted all she'd gone through to the two of them.

Hearing the words that incited discord on the note, Jack couldn't help but break into a cold sweat.

He knew clearly that if Yun You had believed those words, their team might have fallen apart instantly, exactly like the "mutual killing" scenario Yun You had seen in her Future Sight.

But fortunately, their girl employer was calm enough not to believe the nonsense.

This also made Jack breathe a sigh of relief.

Yet, thinking carefully, he knew that Yun You would never have done that.

After all, Jack was well aware, from a few encounters, of how strong this girl's determination is. Just a few unknown rules and illusions couldn't make her turn on her comrades? Dream on!

As for Frost Moon...

Though he was shocked by Yun You's experience, he was, after all, a hacker, and his prefrontal lobectomy quickly brought him to calm, then he began analyzing the composition of the mist and blood.

"No need to waste time analyzing."

Yun You waved her hand, explaining: "My reconnaissance chip already detected that the mist and blood are the same as the fungus mat beneath our feet, classified as [inorganic]."

"Still inorganic?"

Frost Moon was shocked.

Given that the pink mist was "it's" body, how could it possibly be inorganic?

"Inorganic matter should have no life... Could 'it' be some kind of silicon-based life form? But that's too far-fetched..."

The hacker whispered to himself.

"I find it unbelievable too, but it's the truth."

Yun You shook her head, calmly saying: "And I think that analyzing the composition now isn't the priority. First, let's find a way to 'eliminate' this mist."

"Do you guys have any ideas... ways to disperse a large amount of mist at once?"

The little girl pulled her knife from the mist, stabbed a few more times, causing several invisible wounds to bleed, but it wasn't very effective.

"It" continued to whimper softly.

"Ideally, we can clear the mist over our heads."

Yun You pointed to the mist on the rocky ceiling above, whispering: "It seems the densest and most heavily scented vapor mass."

"I have an idea."

Frost Moon casually responded, then stood up, pulling out a bottle of high-concentration alcohol from his pocket, tossing it mid-air, and shooting it with a handgun to burst it.

Bang—

A loud noise was accompanied by a fireball appearing mid-air.

It swiftly dispersed most of the mist, and the resulting white gas further reduced the haze.

This method was indeed effective.

"Ethanol's highly volatile and dissolving, capable of breaking down the mist's structure."

Putting away his handgun, Frost Moon casually explained: "In the past, ethanol was the primary component of car defoggers."

"Not bad work."

Yun You nodded in approval.

The mist indeed began to collapse, like a routed enemy, falling apart in an instant.

And "it's" moaning also gradually subsided.

Yet, when the pink mist completely dissipated, "it's" voice filled with anger suddenly reappeared, and in a very pronounced manner, rolling in the three people's ears.

"You... think... you've won...?"

"You've merely taken advantage..."

"We still have plenty of time, slowly, to play... and next time, you won't be so lucky."
