I will strive beyond this cursed bloodline!

Chapter 96: [Rossie] I have found a Goddess to serve…Your [Will] shall be done.

“We aren’t ready.” Her other half said as she descended into the Soulscape.

She knew that of course, her Soul hadn’t healed that much, even after the best efforts done by Elizabeth, her [Soul] was damaged, no. That was an understatement, she was broken and patched together. And while Elizabeth had done her best to help her, even going as far as using her own [Power] to try and stitch her [Soul] together.

“We can’t let her down, she is moving forward. If we slow down then we will become a weight for her advancement.” So she answered as such to her other half.

She wasn’t sure why her other half was that of a little girl, what kind of trauma did this speak about her? But of course, she was aware of the type of woman she was, she didn’t even need to take a peek into her own [SoulGem] as Michael had done so.

“We could fix it, you only need to take it in.” Her other half spoke, and she felt it resonate with the [SoulGem], “If we both work together we should be able to limit the effects, maybe we could even divert the memories away and purge them. Beatrice should be able to help us with that.”

“No,” Rossaline of course knew that was an option, she didn’t doubt that her daughter could help them either. That wasn’t the problem, she didn’t have a need for that past, and more importantly. “Elizabeth will need this power, this [Gem]. I am not sure if I will be able to make one like this, and even if I can…chances are it will not hold as much power as this one.”

That was the crux of this problem, her [SoulGem] was brimming with power, with [Mana], it was as if the thing had been harvesting and molding [Mana] for generations, stockpiling it little by little.

“Elizabeth will be sad if we fail.” Her other half pointed out, “...should we fail…in the best case scenario it will cripple our [Mana Circuits]...”

She could live with that.

“In the worst case, we will die.” And while she couldn’t live with that….

“Elizabeth will bring us back,” She wouldn’t need to, she had full trust in her Girlfriend, in her lover, in her [Beacon of Hope]. “Elizabeth will raise us from the dead, just like she did for Aura. And even if we are on the brink of destruction…she will pull us out, just as she did with Rena.”

“And then, you will be bound to her. We will be bound to her, no matter her opinion.” Her other half said with a sigh, “She will not like this result, and you know she wants an equal relationship.”

“...She does now, but you also saw her with Rena.” Rossaline hated this part of her, “She was so proactive…so domineering….so… enticing….”

She hated it, how Elizabeth moved forward to kiss Rena, how she fondled her breast, how her hand snaked down between the red-haired legs…how her eyes hungered for the other girl. SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR HER! SHE ONLY NEEDED TO SAY THE WORD AND SHE WOULD BE ON HER KNEES IF NEEDED!

“It is your insecurities the ones that almost made Elizabeth break the [Lock].” Her other half chimed, “You know the reason for Elizabeth’s change. The reason why your girlfriend has so much pent-up lust.”

“I know, my [Sin] is leaking up towards her. But if we break it….” Rossaline had thought about it, she wanted to know if Elizabeth would reform it or not. If the blonde girl would really still [Love] her even without her [Mana] attempting to taint her…

“She would make a new one, you are underestimating how much she loves us.” Her other half had more faith in their relationship, wasn’t that a funny thing? “You may be the one at the front, but I’m the one with the more normal upbringing.”

“And yet, that doesn’t change what I must do.” Answered back Rossaline Singh, “We will breakthrough….Are you ready? Michelle Campbell?”

“...We will probably die, and you will make Elizabeth cry tears of blood.” Answered her other half, the little girl whose future was stolen with a [Hero Summoning], and the one who awoke within her [Soul] the same day Rossaline Singh held the [SoulGem], “Fine, I don’t know, whatever…Let’s hope for the best…Rossaline Singh.”

“Job Evolution, select [High Healer].” Rossaline Singh said not even looking at the options, she was probably offered plenty of jobs from [Gods] and [Magical Girl] variants, probably a few unsavory ones too.

But she still would pick the job evolution that aligned her the most with the identity that Elizabeth liked of her, she never once presented her as a [Magical Girl], but as [Her Favorite Healer]. So Rossaline Singh would be that.

She would be what Elizabeth wanted her to be, she didn’t like healing that much, nor enjoyed the gratitude from other people she took care of at the clinic. She smiled at them of course, she spoke with them, she encouraged them, she scolded them, and she helped them.

But if any of them died, she wouldn’t look at them twice. She would soothe the family of course, and if they pester her enough she may even attend the funeral to speak niceties of the dead, but that was about it. She didn’t hold care nor love for them, was it because her [Soul] was cracked? Or was this how she was?

She…wasn’t sure. She knew that if the one at risk or in pain was Elizabeth, that she would mourn and cry, she had done that already, either because of guilt or because of grief. And while the previous attempt from [The World] for healing her [Soul] had been in vain as she cracked it open once more, she…wasn’t as devoid of emotions as before.

While before she would put up a mockery of emotions when she was angry or jealous, nowadays? She truly felt it, she was green with envy when Elizabeth answered the kiss from Rena, she was happy when Elizabeth looked at her, kissed her, caressed her…

And she was worried that her parents would do something stupid, not because of fear for what they could do, but because she feared that Elizabeth would ditch her. And when Elizabeth said with a pained expression that she would cut the [Lock] if that would reassure her of the Love the blonde girl felt for her?

She was happy. But now?

Now she truly understood what [Pain] was.

“AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH̸̢͔̝̬͔͓̼̀́̍H̷̢̧̨̨̫̺̖̩̬̙̮͊̆̈͒̓͜H̶͈̗͕̺̜̱̹͊̈́͜H̸̰͈̙̫̥̞͇̃̎̄́͑̿̆̂̂͆͒̃̒H̶̲̬̞͖̹͓̃͆͆̃͆̓͌̑̑̈́̽̓̂H̵̫̲̊̀̓” As she felt her [Soul] start cracking open like an egg.

She wasn’t sure if her other half was screaming with her or not, but what she knew was that soon enough the raging mana that was coursing through her body would make her burst. The first thing she did was “[Soul]... [Mending]....” Cast a simple healing spell to try and fix the cracks that started to spread across her [Soulscape].

She didn’t trust herself to cast a full compound spell, not at the moment. Not now, so she used one of the complex spells she had on the side, “....Be….careful…with….the….mana….discharges….” Her other half said.

Just in time as she fell to the floor, pushed to the side, looking up she found her other half with a hole in her torso, the pink-haired girl's image vanishing and being replaced by a brown-haired girl. An…. average-looking girl.

“Michelle?” Rossaline asked, the other girl nodded and then was ravaged by multiple mana discharges as the girl acted like a lightning rod.

Why had that happened? A Mana Discharge should work outwards not inwards.

“....ah.” Rossaline understood as she heard a crystal break, and the exterior of the apartment became apparent to her, she soon found herself in a ruined house, it felt…nostalgic.

Looking downwards she could see herself sitting in the apartment within Elizabeth’s Soulscape, sitting with her eyes closed as cracks made of golden light started showing in her body.

And on this side? She could see those same cracks, only not only in her body, but in the ruined house, in the floor, ceiling, walls, and even in the sky. “Was…was the [Soulscape] within Elizabeth fake?” Rossaline asked to no one.

“No, it was real. I could perceive it, I could interact with it, and my [Love] was real enough that it managed to do the impossible…” And thinking about how both Rena and Aura had arrived there, “And even made it possible for others to see how great Elizabeth is!”

Yes, she had managed to make it. Even if she didn’t like the idea of sharing Elizabeth with others, but if it meant that more people could see it…she…”I won’t mind sharing her so long they understand how wonderful Elizabeth really is…” And saying those words…made her heart calm down, she could feel how her [Soul] moved one step closer to being healed up…

“Alas…we aren’t a fairy tale.” A v̵̠̤̅̇̍̈ȯ̷̔̂̓̽͆i̵̗̱̜̓̇͊̔̆̋͐͛̈̆̀̌͘c̸̨̛̪͑͊̓̾ḙ̵̽͂̔̈̏͠ spoke behind her. Turning to look behind, Rossaline found… A [Woman] looking down at her, she was wearing a black gala dress, and like her. She was a pink-haired woman. “But not everything is lost yet, Rossaline Singh. You may still save yourself.”

“Who are you?” Rossaline asked, she felt as if this woman was someone she knew, and yet… Couldn’t pinpoint who it was.

“I am…An old friend, in my line of job I help some kind of people get what they need, they want entertainment? I get them the right type of fellas to entertain them. Do they need help fixing something? I sent them the kind of people that can fix their problems…” The woman said with a mysterious smile, “And if they want to find what kind of person they really are…Well, I help them find the right work for that.”

“That doesn’t answer it, nor explain how you are here…” Rossaline said as she tried to mold some mana…only for blood to burst from her mouth.

“Tut-tut-tut, trying to cast a spell while your mana is rampaging through your soul? And here I thought you were the smart one.” The woman laughed at her, then while pointing down she added “Remember Rossaline, you are about to Die.”

No, she wouldn’t. And even if she did….

“Then what? ‘Elizabeth will bring me back’?” The woman smirked at her, “You are wrong, Elizabeth may be able to bring the dead back. But she needs something to bring you back, your Soul will burst in a thousand pieces, and she will not be able to bring you back. She may bring something, but that will not be you…Can you imagine it? The love of your life…kissing a mockery of you? Doing love to an empty vessel with your face? She may break. No…She will break.”

….No…nonononononono.

Had…had she made a mistake? No, impossible!

ELIZABETH BROUGHT BACK AURELIA VITELIUS AND SHE HAD BEEN DEAD FOR A YEAR AND SOME! HER SOUL WAS ALMOST GONE!

“And yet, it wasn’t gone. Besides you can’t compare yourself with her. That girl was blessed with her second chance. She was, after all… [The Maiden of Space] as you humans like to say it.” The woman said while smirking her way, “Do you want to live? To survive?”

And so, the pink-haired woman extended her hand towards her, she…didn’t want to take it, she knew what this was, this reeked like a contract with another [God], she didn’t want it, she would not be made into a pawn of [The World] again.

“Oh no, you are wrong Rossaline Singh.” The woman smiled deviously at her, “You are so wrong that it isn’t even fun. It’s disgusting, a mere mortal thinks itself worthy of being my servant?”

And the pressure crashed down into her, it was for a moment, only a second, and yet. She felt as if her [Soul] was about to crack open…and a second later as if nothing had happened she was once more at the same point she was before. The cracks that extended all over her soul when that woman spoke were no longer there. As if they weren’t there in the first place.

Her soul was still in a dangerous spot.

“What do you want me to do?” Rossaline asked, wary of the answer. But the woman just said that she would not be beholden to her. So perhaps…

“I want you to look at the job options, and to take the one that will show up after you read them.” The woman smirked.

That was it?

“That is it, think it as a favor to someone who may one day walk with me.” The woman said and a second later she was gone.

....Mother?.....Finish….Quickly….I am….dealing…..with….the….mana….” She felt the transmission arrive, was that Beatrice?

A thought was all she had needed for the information about what was happening in the real world to arrive at the back of her mind, how her daughter was taking in the rampaging mana and funneling it back to her in a more sedated form, all in an attempt to help her…

How Aura stood at the side of Elizabeth whose eyes were closed…

How Rena stood between both girls with her sword drawn, a look of worry in her eyes…

Hah!

Rena was worried for her when she should have taken the chance to finish her off…Really…that girl, like Elizabeth, was too good for her own good. They needed someone at the side who understood how dangerous the world was…

They needed her.

“Show me the job options, and make it fast.” Rossaline Singh said as she summoned the blue screen that she despised the most.

Notice:

Job evolution is in progress, you may only change it into a higher tier job if you are within the first second of job evolution.

You have [15 Seconds] before your job can no longer be changed.

[Warning: Soul integrity at risk, please select a job with a sturdy soul-healing effect for survival.]

[Chance fo Survival with current job selected: 0%]

Well, that was somewhat worse than she had thought it would be, she at least expected to have a 1% chance of survival. But for it to be 0%...

Either way, at least the timer wasn’t moving down…She was in this slowed-down world with all the time in the world to pick a job…And yet, she knew that her time was limited.

“Options…give me the stupid options…” Rossaline said looking at the blue screen and dismissing the warning.

The list went on with other less…normal and appealing jobs, some focused on her more….unhinged acts, while the latter ones were somewhat enticing. She wasn’t quite sure how she had qualified for either [Jack The Ripper] or [Florence Nightingale].

Okay, that was a lie, she was aware of what of her actions had made her viable for being [Jack The Ripper]’s successor. But [Florence Nightingale]? The mother of nursing? The first woman who made a chore into one of the most renowned jobs? The precursor for healing and care of the sick?

If [Odyssey] was the mother of all magical girls, then [Florence Nightingale] was the mother of all nurses. And there were way more nurses than [Magical Girls].

And then, the apostle section. Of course, she was offered many, these were the important ones, and the list went on and on with names of [Fake Gods] and [Pseudo Deities]. She could even see the one that had contracted with the student council girl. Selen Dawnstrike.

But no…She was told to ignore those and pick the one that showed after. But nothing was showing up? Had that woman lied to her?

“Where is the last one, are you keeping things from me?” Rossaline said glaring at the blue screen.

She could see the chances she would have of survival with those jobs, so she could pick one of those if nothing showed up. And then that happened. She felt the embrace of what she could only describe as the [Divine]. It was warm, soothing, loving…

As if everything would be okay as if the hideous wounds in her [Soul] weren’t that ugly. She hated them, she loathed the wounds that made her who she was, and the same ones that made her cling to Elizabeth like a starved-for-emotion woman. The ones that tied Elizabeth down to her.

And yet…. She almost could hear the whisper at the back of her mind reassuring her, telling her how much she was loved…How much Elizabeth cared for her, how her past didn’t define her, how it made her beautiful.

She felt the warmth embrace of something around her as if a loving entity reassured her, and slowly but surely her soul started to heal. The cracks diminished in size, her mana calmed down, and those wounds in her [Soul] slowly mended itself, not like before.

While before her [Soul] was closing and leaving scars in some parts, while in others the gouges had been closed with shadow threads…This time, the cracks turned into golden lines with azure-like decorations on the side.

And almost as if waiting for the opportunity a new screen showed itself in front of Rossaline Singh.

Job Evolution Open:

-Acolyte of Shadows.

-Cleric of Shadows.

-Apostle of Shadows.

-Magical Girl - Saintess of Healing.

-Saintess of Healing.

-Apostle.

She didn’t need to check to what entity these jobs would tie her to, nor what it would do to her. No, she already knew.

“Always…I will always follow after you…My Elizabeth.” So she picked the one option she knew Elizabeth thought of her.

Not the one she wanted, not the one that would bind her to Elizabeth at the level she desired. No, being in a relationship meant that one had to think about their partner after all. And besides…If she spooked Elizabeth she may not walk this path…And if the world was to know how great Elizabeth was.

Then Rossaline Singh was willing to make some sacrifices, the world would know soon enough of the one that was walking into godhood.

And if to achieve that she needed to be a [Saintess of Healing] to make it happen, she would do it. After all… What better [Goddess] to tie herself than her girlfriend?

Magical Girl - Saintess of Healing:

You have decided to walk in the footsteps of a Saintess, you are not the first to pledge her loyalty. But what you are, is the first Mortal who has received the love of your Goddess. She may be small, she may be weak, and she may not even realize what path she is following. But you know. And even if she doesn’t achieve it, or even if she decides to walk another path. You are still willing to be at her side.

Yes, she could live with this…And she could even die with this if needed. Not that she would, no. She would live, for as long as Elizabeth was in the mortal world she would be at her side. But for now? Right now she needed to open her eyes in the real world. Her [Soul] was already mending itself, instead of hideous wounds all over all she could see were pathways where the loving caress of Elizabeth’s Prana flowed, healing.

“ROSSIE! IF YOU DON’T WAKE UP I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL BURN THIS WORLD TO ASHES!” Was the first thing she heard when her eyes started opening.

And sure enough, she saw the crying face of her girlfriend, why was she crying? Didn’t she know that she was fine? She had healed her after all.

“DON’T YOU DARE DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS AGAIN!” And yet…Rossaline found herself in the loving embrace of the crying blonde.

“It’s okay Eli-Eli. I knew I could do it, even if I used a little of your help.” She said while hugging the other girl.

At the back, she could see Beatrice sleeping in Aura’s lap, and Rena at their side. The red-haired girl just nodded in her direction. And Rossaline found herself…nodding back at the other girl, the flustered face she put on was amusing.

Wait, amusing? She found Rena…amusing?

“Rossie? Is something wrong? Do you need a healer?” The flustered voice of her girlfriend surprised her, “QUICK! GET ME A HEALER! NO. GET ME THE GODDAMNED [PROPHET] THAT BITCH BETTER MAKE SOMETHING USEFUL IN HER GODFORSAKEN LIFE FOR ONCE!”

“It’s okay Eli-Eli, I’m fine. Besides, I’m the best healer around, remember?” She said to the bimbo of a girlfriend she had, “This is more now than ever.”

And with a flick of her wrist, she summoned her [Status Screen], it was interesting. No evidence of the real importance of her new job was to be seen anywhere. But Rossaline knew, that if she focused on her job, she could find the shadows dancing within.

But right now? It only stated [Magical Girl - Saintess of Healing]. And nothing else.

Perhaps Rena could also achieve something like this? She would need to speak with her, in private.

“Thank god…I was scared…I tried to help you with the mana discharges, but lost consciousness at some point. I think my [Heart] continued funneling the mana back….did it help?” Elizabeth asked her, she just looked so adorable.

“Yes, but you know what could help me more?” So adorable that she wanted to ravage her whole, “A kiss.”

But not now, not at this moment. At this very moment? All she wanted was to kiss the girl she loved…And maybe think of a new prayer to offer, she had, after all. Found a [Goddess] she was willing to dedicate her life to. Even if said entity was the girl she Loved.
