Chapter 440: The Jungle Lord’s Rage?
Lillian flew back several dozen metres, having used the flat side of her sword to block what seemed to be an underhand swing from the Jungle Lord's battle axe.
Her arms shook terribly from the force of the blow, along with her sword, which seemed to share the same sentiments as her.
While any person would be in either awe or dread of the Jungle Lord's strength, she was instead... In ecstasy.
Such a blow in the past would've left cracks in the bones in her arms; that was how powerful it was—however, all she received was some numbness.
Although it was on the major side, it was still just numbness...
Was she becoming a masochist?
Lillian landed on her feet and skidded back, regaining her balance as she shot the Jungle Lord another taunting smirk.
The glowing lights inside the Jungle Lord's hollow eyeholes flickered as it saw Lillian block its strike without any obvious sign of pain—it froze for a moment.
The Jungle Lord would then bend over unnaturally before kicking off into a swift charge with a speed that even Lillian found difficult to anticipate beforehand.
And despite that—
CLANG!
—She chose to face it head-on.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
A single minute had passed from their earlier exchange, and yet they had already clashed weapons five different times.
During this, Lillian's body had begun to show signs of damage, primarily on her face and any other limbs that were exposed.
For each blur she narrowly dodged, there would always be a shallow cut placed on her body.
Any deep injuries would always fall upon her chestplate, which was fortunately resistant enough to endure such attacks, especially with its enchantment [Dried Coral] now active.
After another couple of minutes of this, the arena had become torn and covered in countless small craters—primarily due to the mighty swings from the Jungle Lord, who remained merciless and rapid with its movements.
CRASH!
Lillian managed to sidestep the battle axe, having quickly adapted to the tempo of its attack, before swinging at the hand that held the menacing battle axe.
The Jungle Lord, apprehensive about the possible injury, dashed back, distancing itself from its weapon and Lillian.
It looked down at its right hand, closed it a few times before gazing at its axe that was still stuck in the ground. Then, it would settle its gaze on Lillian, who continued to shoot another mocking expression.
However, this one seemed different.
Although Lillian didn't speak a single word, the Jungle Lord could decipher what she meant by this singular expression.
You may be faster, but you're getting predictable.
These unsaid words caused the glowing lights in the Jungle Lord's hollow eyeholes to flicker dangerously—aggravated.
Lillian, who was silently taunting the Jungle Lord, was quietly filling up the arena with water.
By now, the water had already become an inch tall.
'Just a bit more...' Lillian muttered internally as she threw constant, brief glances towards the sky.
As Lillian did this, she felt the activity of mana in the air intensify slightly, something that wasn't connected to her.
SPLASH.
Lillian's ears twitched at the sound of water splashing and found a dark blur appearing before her.
Seeing this, she quickly raised her sword and blocked what seemed to be a rapid stab from the Jungle Lord's spear—
DING!
—Which caused her to go flying back.
As Lillian shot back, she could sense that the aura surrounding the Jungle Lord felt more enraged.
Did her taunt piss it off?
Before Lillian began to readjust herself in the air, she watched as the Jungle Lord stabbed its spear into the ground before tightening its right hand into a fist—jerking it back—before disappearing shortly after.
She widened her eyes.
It got even faster!
Lillian twisted her body around and turned back.
And as she did that, she was then face-to-face with a wall of sharp vines speeding towards her.
Her eyes flashed with light as she flashed her empty hand out.
Droplets of water rapidly appeared in the air before shooting towards the wall of vines, piercing through it with a speed equivalent to or greater than that of a bullet shot from a Desert Eagle.
After destroying the threat, Lillian twisted her body around in the air again, intending to recover her balance.
However, before she could even realise it—
BAM!
—A tall, dark blur appeared from behind the shattered wall of vines.
The Jungle Lord shot forward and crashed its fist against the centre of Lillian's chestplate, causing a powerful THUD sound to resonate as Lillian shot back.
Lillian felt winded as the air was knocked out of her; she could even feel her chestplate shift a little from the swift, unexpected blow.
"C-crap!"
Watching as the Jungle Lord disappeared again, Lillian quickly formed a solid water barrier around her body in the form of a sphere.
Before Lillian could even hit the ground, the Jungle Lord had already appeared to push her up.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Like she was inside a pinball game, Lillian's body was knocked left and right, bouncing across the arena as the Jungle Lord bashed her around.
She was locked in an everlasting combo!
"D-did..."
Did she really piss it off that badly!?
'Fortunately, my barrier will hold!'
With the help of her earring's water-buff enchantment, she didn't need to fear about it breaking in.
However, if it wasn't for the earring's [Parallel Thinking] enchantment, she would've struggled terribly to keep up the sphere's structure.
She already felt like she wanted to vomit due to all the spinning around.
'But it's fine...'
Having laced her sphere with her Parasitic Element, she was going to leech off of the Jungle Lord's mana and stamina in hopes of tiring it out.
It can't keep up such immense speeds forever, after all.
'And not only that...'
Lillian managed to catch a glimpse of the sky.
And after a few moments, a few bashes around the arena... She gave a sick smirk as she mouthed:
"It's time..."
...
"Shit! She's being bashed around in there!" Emilio shouted, watching in horror as Lillian was being flung about like some dead hamster in its ball.
He then tried to take a step forward before being pulled back by the scruff of his neck by Jon, who had an equally horrified expression, albeit slightly more hidden compared to his young master.
Emilio tried to free himself from his bodyguard's clutches.
"L-let me go! Even if Miss Lillian is powerful, don't you see what that horrific thing is doing to her!?"
He then looked towards Viesta for help.
"Come on, Miss Jorlinstan, she's going to die in there! You must see that I'm right!"
Viesta heard his yell and couldn't refute what he had just said. From what had happened thus far, Lillian hadn't been able to land a single cut on the Wendigo.
Lillian was also far too slow to be a match for the Wendigo, as well...
And she couldn't say for certain whether or not Lillian had recovered her memories or not.
Usually, when one entered into a Trial, whatever injuries they had prior would disappear—they would also regain missing limbs.
However, from what she could tell, Lillian didn't seem any different from when they entered the Trial.
After such a fight, wouldn't someone at least receive some kind of trauma!?
Viesta clutched her hands into tight fists, her nails digging into her hand and drawing blood—she was torn between what to do.
The most ethical option was to try to help Lillian the best they could. However... She wasn't foolish to think that all ethical options were the best options.
She, Emilio, and Jon would be torn apart the moment they set foot into the arena.
Considering that she and Emilio were only of the first tier, they would be instantly eviscerated by the Wendigo, who they weren't even able to keep up with.
And even though Jon was of the same Tier as Lillian, ultimately, the white-haired girl was a cut above the rest in the same tier—be it in terms of gear, experience and combat ability.
Even if they did try to help from afar, who's to say that the Wendigo couldn't reach them from up here?
"It has control over the vines..." Viesta whispered dreadfully under her breath as she looked around their surroundings.
They were deep in its territory, which was covered in vines, and nowhere did they look.
IT had the advantage—an overwhelming one at that.
Viesta continued to try to think up a plan where they could all get out of this... And fast! She was watching her junior being pummeled before her very eyes!
She raised the side of her index finger to her mouth before biting into it.
What do they do? What COULD they do?
"What the—?" Emilio flinched as he looked up before trying to get Viesta's attention, who only waved him off.
But as Emilio tried to get her attention more and more, Viesta—who was on the brink of exploding—shouted:
"I'm trying to think of something! Let me think!"
Emilio flinched, startled by her sudden outburst.
Jon, who watched this, patted Viesta's shoulder and received an annoyed glare.
Viesta then watched as Jon pointed upwards and showed what seemed to be...
