Chapter 377: A Race?
[10 Minutes Later]
"Tch. That bastard whimp..." Brexten hissed, marching forward with a furious expression as the twins behind him flinched at his tongue click.
With complete disregard for his surroundings and the bodies of both mages and moles around him, Brexten shouted, "How dare that coward rob me of my damn earnings! Just because we're of the same tier, he actually had the gall of demanding ME to pay for a FEE!"
One of the twins, Gloria, clutched onto a wooden staff as she muttered, "N-no need to get so upset about someone like him, Sir Brexten..." Her twin, Historia, nodded vigorously at the words spoken.
Brexten paused in the middle of the path before spinning on his heel and walking past the two ladies. With furrowed brows, he shouted, "I'm going back and getting back my money!"
But right as Brexten was about to do so under his party's disagreement, something snuck out from one of the holes to the wall on his right, then another to his left.
And soon enough, they were surrounded.
With a calm but fierce yell, he commanded the two ladies behind him to ready their weapons. Brexten gripped his shield and a large broadsword before charging in.
He would deal with Zeke later after clearing this monster infestation. His entire party was of the second tier, after all.
Taking care of some monster that's still in the D-rank should be easy, especially if what he was told was that it was merely of the Maw stage in its evolution.
Unfortunately for Brexten, he didn't know the Alpha was a stage above that—A Husk.
**
Unlike Brexten's group, who had wandered down the far left direction of the three paths, Lillian and Millis wandered down the very middle. The reason for this was that in the game, one of the two remaining directions would lead to a nursery...
The Alpha was a she.
The reason why Lillian had chosen to go down the middle would be that the direction of the nursery would always be the direction parallel to the one that she had gone through yesterday.
The nursery acted as a long-term spawner of Barrel Moles and also a backup plan for the Alpha, whenever they were to engage with it and push it into a corner.
Remembering what might happen, Lillian sighed and shook her head, hoping it wouldn't happen, for the fight would become much harder after that.
'It's just 2 kilometres or so away... We can make it, if we're quiet enough.'
Lillian then felt tremors being sent through the ground and assumed it must be from Brexten's mage party. She rolled her eyes; she couldn't really bother about what happened to them, even if it may sound a bit psychotic.
Looking towards Millis, Lillian asked, "Have you sensed anything?"
Millis gave Lillian a look and realised what the girl meant. For went silent for a few moments before nodding slightly, "These guys are sensitive, bro. I think they're onto us, already."
Millis summoned her equipment along with Lillian, who wore her chestplate, cloak, boots, and gauntlets. Having already told the Heroine about the plan, the two began stretching their bodies.
But mainly their legs.
"So! What ya think about a race then, Lil'?" Millis grinned, pushing herself back up to Lillian's height.
The Rabbit looked at the Heroine with a competitive grin as the holes in the walls began to widen. She hadn't even measured her speed up with someone relatively close to her level before, so this would be a learning experience.
"Oh~? A race, huh? Alright, but you better keep up, Millis. We got a plan and we gotta do it quick."
"Ya should be the one telling ya self that! I hope ya don't get blinded because this entire tunnel will be filled by mah dustcload." Millis responded, putting on a pair of boots and rings.
After pulling out a coin from her pocket, Lillian flicked it into the air.
As the holes in the wall became flooded with Barrel Moles, the two ladies—
Thud!
—Dashed forward once the coin hit the ground.
With a powerful stomp from both, they shot forward with extreme speed. And in just a few steps, they had already crossed a dozen metres.
Clutching her shortsword, Lillian's body, wrapped in a thin layer of electricity, blitzed forward and tore through the armour of a mole with seamless ease.
[Defence Piercer].
The quicker Lillian moved, the more likely her attacks would breach through most defences... And at this moment in time...
[You have slain a Savage Wretch, Barrel Mole]
[You have slain a Savage Wretch, Barrel Mole]
[You have slain...]
The monsters around her were nothing more than stepping stones.
As Lillian's speed steadily increased, she found that the surrounding moles began to increase in population the more noise was made. After piercing and tearing through the thick exoskeleton of a mole, Lillian used it to propel herself upwards.
Lillian looked down and found countless maws open for her descent. However, that would never happen, for as soon as Lillian pushed her foot towards the ground, a transparent platform appeared.
Leaning herself forward, Lillian stomped on it, shattering and blasting herself forward as she created countless platforms beneath her feet. And without any obstacles in the way, she had already crossed 1.4 kilometres.
If one were to take into account that the race had only started 3 minutes and 50 seconds ago, then this was incredibly fast.
Once Lillian began to abuse her teleportation, she managed to reach the end in only a minute and 30 seconds.
As Lillian leapt off her air platform, she landed on the ground and looked back, finding a tsunami of moles charging at her with malevolent intentions. But a second later, a massive pit formed underneath them, followed by a wall blocking them off from her.
Lillian widened her eyes before watching as Millis suddenly slipped out from the solid wall beside her as though she were a ghost. And just like her, the Heroine too was covered in blood.
Lillian smiled widely, "Welp~. Looks like I..."
