Chapter 55: Sengoku’s Response
Chapter 55: Sengoku's Response
"Bonus mode?"
Opening the system panel, Rodney immediately understood that besides missions, he can also convert mission points by killing pirates. According to the amount of bounty, one hundred thousand bellies is one mission point, and one hundred million bellies is only a thousand points.
Seeing this, Rodney was overjoyed, as he would get more mission points this way.
'Wait, Crocodile had a bounty of 70 million before becoming Shichibukai, that's 700 mission points! System, you tricked me!'
System: "..."
Taking out a fruit, Crocodile died, wondering if he could get his Sand Sand Fruit.
One second passed, two seconds passed, three seconds passed...
Well, the apple in his hand has not changed in any way, it seems to be useless, and the Sand Sand fruit has appeared anywhere in this world.
Tsk, I'm a little upset...
Biting an apple, dragging Crocodile's body into the rain again...
Three days later, the news of Shichibukai Crocodile's defeat spread across the World Economy News. He was hunted and killed by a pirate hunter who had just set out, and the evidence was clear.
It exposed his manipulation of the Baroque Works agency, using Dance Powder and framing King Cobra. Rodney had obtained the evidence through a Den Den Mushi(1) secretly placed during his meeting with Crocodile. He skillfully cut down the conversation, omitting the taboo word "Pluton" to avoid further complications.
Rodney's actions made him briefly famous in the first half of the Grand Line. Shichibukai represented power and a strength that ordinary pirates couldn't match. Therefore, the beheading of a relatively unknown pirate hunter caused quite a stir.
However, the revelation of a pirate plotting to steal a country truly shocked the world. To think a pirate could aim to become a king of a nation was inconceivable. Many people started to wonder if other Shichibukai like Doflamingo had ascended to power in a similar manner.
...
At the Marine Headquarters, Fleet Admiral Sengoku, known as "The Buddha," a wise and experienced Fleet Admiral, looked at the report in his hand, lost in thought. He had initially been against the idea of having Shichibukai, but he couldn't change the high-level decision to have pirates join the World Government.
These Shichibukai joined for various purposes and used the World Government as a tool for their goals. However, when they were caught, the World Government would eliminate them.
The World Government had envisioned a balance of power between the Four Emperors, Shichibukai, and the Marines, but the Shichibukai often created trouble for them.
"Crack, click!"
The sound of eating senbei(2) rang out in the office. A burly old man, Garp, was eating the senbei without any scruples.
Veins popped up on Sengoku's forehead, and he couldn't help but say, "Garp! Be quiet!"
"Kacha!"
Sengoku stood up, walked in front of Garp, snatched the senbei from his hand, and ate it all with his mouth open.
"Ah, my senbei! Sengoku! Save some for me!" Garp tried to grab the senbei back, but Sengoku had already finished eating it.
"Don't eat in my office! Do you think this is a lounge?"
"Isn't it?" Garp said, picking his nose.
"Garp! You bastard!"
Since Roger's death, Garp had entered a semi-retired state and often used his office as a tea room, coming to drink tea and eat senbei when he had nothing to do.
But don't take me for a sage like you, you bastard! I'm very busy, and you come here every day to eat senbei, which makes me hungry too!
Don't look at Sengoku when he was the Fleet Admiral of the Marines, he was like an old cadre, well-behaved, responsible to the end, um, he didn't think about punching fake punches during the war. After retiring as the Fleet Admiral, he completely liberated his nature adn became like Garp.
Garp walked to Sengoku's desk, opened the drawer, took out a bag of senbei skillfully, opened the package, and ate it.
"Don't eat it, talk to me carefully."
"That's right, Kacha Kacha..."
After Garp briefly explained his encounter with Rodney, Sengoku fell into deep thought and then said, "Garp, do you think this young man can be trusted?"
"This young man is okay. The only thing I care about is his eyes, which give me a strange feeling. According to him, it is brought about by his fruit ability."
"He didn't say what fruit it is?"
"No, he didn't say."
Sengoku: "..."
He pinched his brows, feeling a bit irritated with Garp's antics. He was used to it, but being old, his blood pressure was a little high, and he said, "How is his ability?"
"He abducted my eldest grandson; his ability is not bad. He can use several elemental abilities: water, fire, wind, earth, lightning. He's good at leg skills, swordsmanship, and has a decent learning ability. However, his physical quality is too weak. I feel he's weaker than Luffy."
"Using so many abilities? What kind of fruit is this?"
Sengoku began to think again, but Garp said indifferently, "This kid did something in East Blue, don't worry. Look, he has defeated Crocodile already. Where is he now?"
"Still in Alabasta, I heard that he was invited by the royal family."
"I see." He scratched his head.
"Garp, tell me, what do you think about letting him become a Shichibukai, taking Crocodile's place?"
Sengoku expressed his thoughts, considering the idea of having a pirate hunter become a Shichibukai. At least this way, the new Shichibukai would be going against the pirates.
"I don't think so. That kid is a money-grubbing master. It's hard to give the bounty to the World Government. Bwahaha. Speaking of which, the rewards of being a pirate hunter are really good. It makes me want to be one."
"Shut your mouth, you bastard. No matter what, you have to give it a try. Your grandson has caused a lot of trouble."
As Garp's old friend, Sengoku was aware of the fact that Ace was Garp's grandson. Perhaps he knew about Ace's true identity, but the World Government didn't hold him accountable, so he didn't mention it.
"Bwahaha, who told him to be my grandson! Bwahaha!"
At the mention of Ace, Garp couldn't help laughing and drifted off to sleep.
"Garp!"
Sengoku punched Garp in the face to wake him up. "It's not good to fall asleep again, haha!"
"Stop laughing! Ace rejected the position of Shichibukai and went to the New World to find the Red Hair Pirates."
"Then go, that damn Red-Haired... that boy Ace must give him a good lesson!" Garp said angrily. Ace was the only one among his grandchildren who wanted to become a pirate.
That damn Shanks had led Luffy down this road of no return!
Sengoku glared at him, "That kid doesn't know Haki at all, he relies solely on his Devil Fruit powers. How could he be a match for Shanks! By the way, why did you let him go to sea?!"
"I can't help him when he grows up! His beliefs... even I, a grandfather, can't bring myself to suppress them!" Garp suddenly became profound, making Sengoku fall silent.
But then Garp laughed again, "As expected of my grandson, just like me."
Ace was willing to risk his life for his beliefs, with the same firmness in his eyes that he had seen in another person's eyes – his lifelong enemy, Gol D. Roger. That made him decide to let Ace go, even though, with his skills, ten Ace and Luffy wouldn't be able to escape his grasp.
