Chapter 130
In front of the students stood the imposing Marrac Mountain. Although they had seen it before, the image before them remained intimidating and impressive.
Professor Dervec, dressed in simple black robes reinforced with defensive demonic magic, carried a black staff with a green gem that emitted a reddish energy.
Most of the professors wore black robes reinforced with defensive magic, ready for immediate action.
"Students, you will have seven days to complete the mission. As soon as you achieve the objective, return. The Academy will give rewards based on the time it takes you to complete the test," Professor Dervec said after infusing his voice with demonic energy.
The more than 150 students present were excited to hear Professor Dervec's words.
"However, as I already told you, we will only give you seven days. Any student who does not return after that time has elapsed will be considered dead and left behind. If possible, they will have to return on their own," Professor Dervec concluded his explanation, after which the students met with their teachers to receive final instructions before entering Marrac Mountain with their hunting groups.
••••
Selef and his group walked toward the beautiful and sensual Professor Ilcia, who was wearing a low-cut blouse, pants, and black boots.
"Everyone, you have heard Professor Dervec. All that remains is for me to inform you that, unlike the hunting areas assigned to you during the test you participated in during your second year at the Academy, this time you are free to decide where you will hunt. The time will start counting down the moment the sun goes down. Go ahead!" Professor Ilcia was quite professional in giving her instructions, as she and the rest of the professors understood the risk they were facing.
After listening to the professor, the students gathered with their own hunting groups to make a final assessment of the hunting strategy they had chosen.
"Let's go!" exclaimed Selef with confidence and determination.
Derio shook his head, smiled, and said:
"I thought I was an enthusiast."
The four of them were the first to enter Marrac Mountain. As they walked every few meters, Selef dropped demon stones.
"You know those things are worth a lot, right?" said Derio, who, as cheerful as he was, felt pain at seeing the level 5 demon stones being left lying on the ground.
"Don't worry, if everything works out, I'll come back for them. It hurts me to lose money too," said Selef in a relaxed tone.
"Then why are you leaving them behind?" asked Derio curiously.
"They allow me to sense the path I've left behind, so if a monster follows our trail, we'll turn it into our prey," replied Selef.
Derio laughed and added:
"The hunter turned into the prey."
As they walked, Isirird watched Leyla surreptitiously.
The surroundings through which the four walked consisted of the edge of a forest and the foot of a mountainous, rocky area.
Such was the nature of Mount Marrac, a vast territory that rose up to the clouds and contained plains, valleys, mountains, and forests. That is why many considered Mount Marrac to be more like a continent with a huge territory that rose up to the heavens.
••••
When the sun had already set, the four walked until they reached the edge of a high rocky outcrop from which they could see a plain, a forest, a lake, and an area of uneven terrain.
At that moment, Selef was holding a level five demonic wand in his hands, which he moved between the fingers of his left hand.
Derio approached the edge of the rocky outcrop and pointed to the forest as he said:
"I think that's the perfect area to hunt a troll. They say that they camouflage themselves during the day to protect themselves from the sun and come out at night. The territories inhabited by trolls are generally dense forests. What do you think?"
Bang!
"Derio!" Leyla shouted desperately.
The moment Derio turned around, a blade of concentrated demonic energy with a spiral-shaped tip blew his head off in the direction the blade was traveling.
"Ah! Aaaaah!" Leyla's screams, terrified and confused, were immediate.
Isirid silently approached Lelya from behind and placed the tip of her demonic wand on the back of Leyla's head, and she fell asleep on the floor.
"It's a shame you were a conspirator; otherwise, you would have been my first friend in this world," thought Selef as he looked at the headless body lying on the edge of the rocky ledge.
Selef knew he shouldn't be sentimental when it came to an enemy; his intelligence forced him to make rational decisions, so he simply pushed Derio's remains, which fell from the top of the ledge.
Selef, who had been meticulously observing the students in Class S for the last year, realized that there were five suspicious students, and using his cursed energy, he listened to the grudges and hatred of the five. Three of them hated the demons of the Argariz Republic, and among them was Derio.
When Derio's body hit the bottom of the abyss, Selef walked over to Leyla and took her in his arms.
"What shall we do with her?" asked Isirid, keeping her guard up as she scanned the surroundings, for she too knew Derio was a conspirator, as Selef had subtly let her know over the days.
"We'll find a place to leave her for now. Let her sleep, then we'll come back for her," said Selef as they walked toward some rocky outcroppings.
"My spell won't keep her asleep for more than a day," Isirid clarified.
"Don't worry, I don't think they'll wait until the last minute to act," replied Selef, who had already begun to sense different sources of demonic energy fluctuating in the vicinity of Mount Marrac.
••••
When they arrived in front of a large rock surrounded by other rocks and some vegetation, Selef carefully placed Leyla on the ground. Then he approached the large rock, placed his left hand on its surface, and activated his demonic energy absorption technique.
