Chapter 64: Auction Begins 1
But before she could continue, the same infernal sound echoed again, louder this time.
Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding.
The grating, insistent noise chipped away at her carefully maintained patience.
Someone in the designated meeting room then let out a massive yawn, which was immediately followed by a rough, hacking cough. "Keuk, keuk…" From a corner, another person snored openly, a low, rumbling sound.
Lindy's sharp, intelligent eyes narrowed. She turned her head just in time to see a high-end smartwatch flashing brightly on Kael Vi-rel's wrist, the sound of its obnoxious, repeating ringtone filling the air. A bodyguard stepped closer to her, leaning down to whisper discreetly.
"Ma'am, should I tell him to stop?"
"No," another guard said, shaking his head. "Leave him. It seems he's already getting up."
But Kael didn't get up. Instead, it was the man sitting beside him the one who had been coughing who shuffled away, leaving only Kael sprawled lazily across his chair, dead to the world, and still snoring loudly.
"Hooo…"
"Kkkiiikk…" "Kkkiiikk…"
The combined chorus of a deep, rumbling snore and a sharp, whistling gasp grated against the tense, professional silence of the room.
Lindy Crowe's jaw tightened, a muscle twitching in her cheek. Her patience, already frayed by the earlier interruptions and the seller's tardiness, finally snapped at the continued, unabashed noise.
Her expression, once a mask of cool professionalism, turned to ice.
This was supposed to be a high-level, meeting, one that demanded focus, respect, and the utmost professionalism. Yet here was Kael Vi-rel, snoring like a man who hadn't a single care in the world.
Her fingers curled around the expensive pen in her hand, her knuckles turning white. A faint, dangerous glint entered her eyes.
For the first time since she had entered the Danon Auction House, the unshakable Lindy Crowe was visibly, profoundly angry.
Hooo…
Zzzz…
Drrr…
Kiiikk…
The strange mix of sounds continued to echo in the quiet room, breaking the calm atmosphere with an odd rhythm that could only belong to one person.
"Ma'am, if the last successful buyer is on our side, then the needed budget for each will be acceptable," one of the advisors of the Crowe Group said carefully.
Lindy Crowe sat back in her chair, fingers lightly tapping against the polished armrest, her sharp eyes narrowing. Why does this need to happen now… of all times? she thought irritably.
Beside her, Kael Vi-rel shifted lazily in his seat.
"Yaaawn…"
A loud, careless yawn escaped his lips, his head tilting back.
"Keuukk…" He stretched his body, the chair creaking slightly under him.
"I'm having a bad day today…" Lindy muttered under her breath, her patience wearing thinner with each passing second.
Then, suddenly, a loud voice boomed from the speakers in the hall.
"This is the announcer of Danon Auction House. The main reason why we are gathered here will soon begin. Please, make your way to your seats," the voice said with polite firmness.
"We will begin shortly," the announcer added.
A servant approached and bowed deeply. "Master Kael Vi-rel, the auction is about to start."
"Gasp… Oh, okay," Kael muttered with only one eye open, the other stubbornly closed. He raised his arms and stretched lazily, letting out another long yawn that echoed through the corridor.
"Haah… I couldn't finish the remaining documents because of all this noise," Lindy said, massaging her temple. She exhaled slowly, then rose to her feet. "Let's get going."
"Yes, ma'am," her advisor replied immediately. The group fell in line, moving through the wide hallway toward the main auction chamber.
As they passed by, several well-dressed attendees glanced at Kael, their expressions stiff with disapproval. His yawning and snoring earlier had clearly not gone unnoticed.
Why are they looking at me like that? Kael thought, tilting his head with innocent confusion. Is it a crime to sleep?
The massive doors to the auction hall opened, revealing a crowded space buzzing with conversation. Chandeliers illuminated the hall in a golden glow, reflecting off polished marble floors. The atmosphere was thick with tension and anticipation; nearly every seat was occupied by powerful figures, representatives of influential families, and wealthy investors.
Kael spotted an empty chair near the middle row and quickly sat down, ignoring the curious stares that followed him.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the announcer's voice filled the air once more, clear and steady. "The main auction will now commence."
The chatter in the room quieted immediately, replaced by a palpable wave of expectation.
"The first item of today's auction," the announcer declared, "is none other than our highlight the Cube Kit."
Gasps and murmurs swept through the hall. All eyes turned as a presenter carefully carried a small platform onto the stage. Upon it lay two Attribute Cube Kits, glowing faintly, their intricate lattice-like patterns shimmering as though alive.
The presenter adjusted the display, allowing the cubes' faint energy to resonate visibly with one another. The glow pulsed gently, filling the air with a strange sense of harmony.
"These are two-slotted Attribute Cube Kits," the announcer explained, pride evident in his tone. "Items of such caliber were believed to be decades away from development. Yet, here they are today, brought to you by Danon Auction House."
The room erupted into low whispers. People exchanged sharp glances, calculating the value, the opportunity, and the risks.
"This is a revolutionary item, one that possesses technology and refinement beyond its time. With it, potential can be maximized in ways previously deemed impossible."
The announcer paused for dramatic effect, his gaze sweeping across the hall before continuing.
"Detailed information regarding these items has already been sent to all registered participants present here today. Please, take a moment to review it."
The faint hum of holographic projectors flickered throughout the hall as descriptions, specifications, and applications appeared on individual displays in front of each bidder.
Lindy Crowe's eyes sharpened as she skimmed through the details. Her fingers drummed lightly against the armrest of her seat, already calculating strategies.
Kael, meanwhile, leaned forward curiously, eyes half-open. "Ooh… my shiny cubes," he whispered, earning another round of odd stares from the people nearby.
