Chapter 50
Chapter 50
“What is he trying to do?!”
Inside the milk tea shop, Zhang Chen had a clear view of the situation.
So did Director Wei and the others from the Demon-Slaying Division.
Even the patrol officers from Jiangdong City were watching everything unfold via surveillance footage.
“Director Wei, what’s that in the kid’s hand?”
The deputy chief constable of Jiangdong’s patrol bureau raised his head, a trace of inquiry in his expression.
Director Wei nodded.
“If nothing unexpected has happened, that’s the batch of new drugs that went missing from Lin Pharmaceuticals.”
“Didn’t they say those drugs hadn’t been fully developed yet? That they were just semi-finished products?”
The deputy chief constable frowned.
He had only thought it was an ordinary criminal case.
As for why it involved a special department, and why higher-ups had ordered them to fully cooperate.
That wasn’t something he could afford to question.
“They’re not fully developed!”
Director Wei nodded.
He hadn’t known earlier, but after watching the surveillance playback at the hospital— and witnessing with his own eyes Ye Fan’s younger sister, Ye Yiyi, being injected with the semi-finished drug.
And seeing her current miserable state.
He now understood just how harmful the substance was to an ordinary person!
“So, what now?”
“Let’s observe the situation first! Let’s hope nothing goes wrong!”
Even Director Wei wasn’t certain how things would unfold.
He honestly didn’t care much whether Lin Xi lived or died.
The key issue was, he didn’t want to offend Zhang Chen or the Zhang family.
Relations were currently amicable, and cooperation was going smoothly.
If something small ended up ruining that partnership, it just wasn’t worth it.
“Let’s hope nothing happens…”
Director Wei narrowed his eyes and gave the order, “Have our people inside wait for the right moment to act!”
“If danger arises, do everything possible to ensure Miss Lin’s safety!”
“In exceptional circumstances, you may open fire!”
Although Director Wei wasn’t the direct superior of the city patrol officers, the Demon-Slaying Division had special authority, and even the deputy chief constable of Jiangdong City was required to give full cooperation.
Naturally, the patrol officers wouldn’t object.
“All units be advised! All units be advised!”
“Ensure Miss Lin’s safety as much as possible!”
“If necessary, permission granted to open fire! You may open fire!”
The deputy chief constable was cooperative.
He wasn’t just some low-ranking officer—he had some idea of the Emergency Management Division’s background.
So extending a favor, showing some respect, was good for both sides.
Director Wei, being no fool himself, lowered his voice and said: “Miss Lin is Young Master Zhang’s fiancée.”
“Young Master Zhang? From the Zhang family of Jiangdong?”
A gleam flashed in the deputy’s eyes as he asked in a hushed tone.
Director Wei nodded.
Now the deputy chief constable understood everything.
Zhang Chen was also watching.
He had no idea what Director Wei might be misunderstanding.
But even if he knew, he wouldn’t care.
Whether Lin Xi lived or died didn’t affect him much.
His true target was Ye Fan!
If he could take Ye Fan down—even at the cost of Lin Xi’s life,
He considered it a worthy trade.
Cold-blooded?
That’s just how he was.
He cared deeply for the people and things that mattered to him.
But if they didn’t matter?
Sorry, he wouldn’t spare them a second thought.
“Ye Fan, you still can’t keep your cool… You’re too young.”
Zhang Chen chuckled to himself, switching to another surveillance feed.
In another camera view, a car was parked not far from the shop.
Zhang Chen knew exactly who was inside.
“It looks like over these past ten years, the hatred in his heart has only deepened.”
The person inside the vehicle was Lin Hongyang.
Zhang Chen also knew the one truly working behind the scenes against the Lin family
was him.
All because of that “accident” ten years ago, and the truths hidden behind it.
“This works out nicely. All the scapegoats are in place.”
Inside the milk tea shop, Lin Xi stared at the cold, metallic syringe in Ye Fan’s hand,
momentarily dazed.
She couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
“Ye Fan, are you crazy?!”
Looking at Ye Fan’s gloomy expression and cold eyes, she felt like she was seeing a stranger for the first time.
Even if she didn’t know exactly what the Lin family’s new drug was meant for, she still had common sense!
Any drug needs years—even decades—of research.
Only after countless tests and clinical trials could it be deemed safe for humans.
Or at least, mostly harmless.
A semi-finished product—who would dare use that on themselves?
Wouldn’t that be treating oneself like a lab rat?
Ye Fan smiled, but the smile was ice cold.
“I’m not crazy, Lin Xi. As long as you inject this into yourself, I’ll tell you the truth!”
When he came here, Ye Fan hadn’t intended to go through with Zhang Chen’s plan and hadn’t planned to kill Lin Xi.
After all, she was the heroine, beloved by fate, typically charming and desirable.
She was still the school beauty he’d once longed for.
How could he bear to hurt her?
But the deeper the love, the deeper the hate!
Lin Xi responded to him with coldness and rejection.
His fragile heart shattered.
And what followed was his descent into darkness.
Lin Xi, of course, refused outright!
“No way! I’m not doing it!”
She wasn’t stupid!
Who would agree to something like that?
She even shouted: “Your sister is critically ill because of that stuff, and now you want me to try it?!”
The more she spoke, the angrier she became.
“Ye Fan! I must’ve been blind not to see what kind of person you are!”
Ye Fan laughed in fury. “What kind of person I am doesn’t matter anymore!”
“This is all your fault!”
He nearly lost control and tried to pin her to the chair.
Forcibly inject the drug into her.
But in the end, that last shred of affection in his heart stopped him.
Unfortunately.
Lin Xi didn’t appreciate it.
And honestly—who in their right mind would?
“Ye Fan, if you still see me as a friend, just tell me directly!”
Lin Xi still tried to reason with him.
If this were before, maybe Ye Fan really would’ve been swayed.
But now, Ye Fan was unmoved.
His tone even grew impatient.
“Friend? If you really see me as a friend, then do what I ask!”
“You’re being completely unreasonable!”
Lin Xi’s face flushed with anger.
She turned to leave, unwilling to waste another word on him.
As for who was targeting the Lin family or the mastermind behind it all
Yes, she wanted to know.
But only to clear her name and atone for her “crime,”
So she could return to the family, become the Lin family heiress once more.

But if it meant risking her life?
Sorry!
She couldn’t do it!
