Chapter 43
The day after a whirlwind of events, I found myself on the terrace of my reserved room at the Hôtel de Paris, sipping afternoon tea while sighing and reflecting on everything that had happened today.
As always, I woke up early, took a shower, and had breakfast via room service. After eating, I uncharacteristically did some stretching. With nothing else to do, I decided to kill time at the casino.
After breakfast, I tried attaching my keys to the key case I had bought yesterday. However, the key to my i8 was too large to fit, which left me slightly irritated. Why hadn’t I tested it at the store?
Apparently, the design name of the key case is “Béarn.” I had seen the design often in Hermès, but I had always assumed it was only for wallets. This revelation was an eye-opener for me.
“So this design is called Béarn, huh?”
I had muttered this aloud when they told me at Hermès.
Upon entering the casino, a suited staff member immediately rushed over to escort me to the VIP floor. I stopped him, saying that I was just there to pass the time and that I was fine staying in the general area.
However, the staff member apparently misinterpreted my words and took it as a surprise inspection by the “Big Boss.”
When people hear the word “inspection,” they tend to put in extra effort even when it isn’t necessary.
As a result, despite being in the general gaming area, I was treated with VIP-level service.
The casino staff, worried that only I receiving special treatment in the general floor might offend me, ended up treating all the other general customers as VIPs as well.
The VIP floor, of course, had to push its service even further beyond.
I felt guilty for inadvertently causing such a commotion.
Today, I was taking a break from wearing my Rolex and just playing casually, so my winnings weren’t anything substantial.
Just as I was chuckling to myself at how absurd the situation was, my smartphone vibrated with a message from Emma.
She told me to be ready in an hour, as she would be picking me up.
“That’s way too sudden.”
There wasn’t even time to cash out, so I handed all my chips to the dealer and simply told them, “Split it up among everyone and use it well.”
The surrounding crowd erupted in excitement, but I had no time to care—I rushed back to my room.
I changed into something comfortable for the flight and took out a stack of euros from a prepared envelope, stuffing about 20 to 30 bills into my wallet—probably around a million yen.
A 200-euro bill at 160 yen per euro…
That’s 32,000 yen per bill. Pretty hefty.
As I continued preparing, I found that I still had about 15 minutes before Emma’s arrival. I decided to brew myself a cup of coffee using the Nespresso machine in my room.
Just as I started sipping my coffee, Emma arrived. I brewed a cup for her as well.
“Here’s the schedule from now on.”
She laid it all out:
First, we’ll take a car to Hong Kong International Airport and board a flight.
It’s a direct flight to Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, about ten hours.
Upon arrival, we’ll take a helicopter directly to Monaco, which takes about ten minutes.
A car will be waiting at the Monaco heliport to take us to the Hôtel de Paris.
At the hotel, the doorman will take care of the luggage, so all I need to do is go to the front desk and give my name.
“Now, let’s go.”
Emma picked up my suitcase and started leading the way.
“I can carry my own suitcase.”
“I’m your secretary. Don’t take my job away.”
She said this with a bright, cheerful laugh.
As we waited at The Venetian Macao’s car pickup, a sleek black luxury car pulled up.
“We’ll be taking this.”
“Wait… a Maybach S650?”
The Maybach is a luxury car often referred to as a “hotel on wheels.” It comes with massage seats and all kinds of top-tier amenities—on the same level as a Rolls-Royce.
After about an hour, we arrived at the private jet terminal of Hong Kong International Airport.
I was guided straight through the terminal, into a car, and then onto the plane. My luggage had already been loaded inside.
“I’ll be looking forward to hearing your legendary stories from Monaco. Have fun!”
With that, Emma waved me off.
As I stepped onto the plane, I was stunned by the sheer opulence of the interior. However, considering it was a private jet exclusively for high-rollers of the Sands Group, it made sense.
A dedicated flight attendant greeted me upon entering.
“Welcome aboard, Mr. Kirishima. My name is Li, and I’ll be assisting you today.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me anything.
I can even help keep you entertained if you’re bored.”
She flashed a carefree smile as she said this.
“Thank you. I look forward to the flight.”
After this little icebreaker, Li gave me a rundown of the plane’s interior.
Essentially, anything you could do at a luxury hotel, you could do here.
Between small talk with Li, meals, a bath, and a nap, the flight passed quickly, and soon I was transferring to a helicopter in Nice.
As Emma had said, in just ten minutes, I was in Monaco, where a Maybach identical to the one in Macau was waiting.
The driver greeted me, and as soon as I got into the passenger seat, we departed for the Hôtel de Paris.
Upon arrival, the doorman received my luggage from the driver and escorted me to the front desk.
“Mr. Kirishima, here are the keys to the car you’ll be using in Monaco.”
The key was handed to me inside an envelope.
Whenever I wanted to use the car, all I had to do was give the key to the doorman, and they would bring it around for me.
A bellboy then took over my luggage and guided me to my room.
“This is the Diamond Suite.”
Everything was happening so fast, I couldn’t process it all. I handed a tip to the bellboy, but since I wasn’t thinking, I ended up giving him a 200-euro bill without realizing it.
Well, I didn’t have any smaller bills anyway.
Once alone in the room, I checked the closet.
As promised, my custom-made tuxedo, shirt, tie, and shoes were all neatly arranged inside.
I called Emma.
“Emma? Isn’t all of this way too extravagant?”
“I simply arranged for what was appropriate.
I can’t stand the thought of my boss being underestimated.
Enjoy Monaco to the fullest.”
She spoke with a mischievous tone, but I knew it was out of kindness, so I thanked her.
Just as I ended the call, a knock came at the door.
A hotel staff member stood there, pushing a cart.
“Your afternoon tea is ready.”
“Please set it up,” I said.
They prepared it out on the terrace and then quietly left.
And thus, we return to the opening scene.
“This schedule today was way too packed…”
For now, I just wanted to relax.
