Chapter 114: Khushi’s Defeat
Streaming links?
What kind of response was that?
She was a woman with money and some class.
When did she look like someone who needed to resort to watching pirated movies online?
Did he really think I could not afford a movie ticket?
I am an attractive, successful woman personally inviting him to spend an evening together, and his response was to offer her a pirated movie link?
Khushi's eye started twitching uncontrollably, and her carefully applied lipstick seemed to be fighting a losing battle against the way her mouth kept opening and closing in shock and disbelief.
This was not going according to plan at all.
In fact, this was going worse than Tanya's attempts had gone.
At least when Tanya failed, it was because Alex seemed genuinely clueless about what she was trying to do.
But this? This felt like he was actively trying to frustrate her.
Otherwise what kind of man turned down a clear invitation from an attractive woman by offering to share streaming links?
"I... I do not think you understand what I am suggesting," she tried again, her voice slightly strained as she attempted to maintain her composure.
"This would be like a private evening, just you and me, away from everyone else..."
But even as she spoke, she could see in Alex's expression that he understood it perfectly well of what she was suggesting and he was choosing to ignore her intentions completely.
This level of either innocence or deliberate aloofness was starting to make her question everything she thought she knew about how men behave usually.
Meanwhile, her phone continued recording in her pocket, capturing what was supposed to be evidence of Alex's 'second face' but was instead it was turning into documentation of her own spectacular failure tonight.
This was supposed to be foolproof.
She was supposed to be irresistible.
And yet here she was, getting the same treatment that Tanya had received a short while ago.
Khushi was beginning to realize that she might have severely underestimated exactly what kind of opponent she was dealing with.
Khushi took a couple of sips of her wine and forced herself to take several deep breaths. Only then did she manage to calm down enough to think clearly about her next move.
This wasn't over yet. She refused to accept defeat this easily.
"Alex."
Khushi adjusted her approach, trying to sound more vulnerable and sincere. "You don't have to be so serious all the time, you know. I've been feeling really unwell down lately, and that's why I thought it might be nice if we could watch a movie together. You won't even consider it?"
Time for her ultimate weapon which is her ...cute loli voice!
She made her voice as sweet and coquettish as possible, adding just the right amount of breathiness to make it irresistibly cute.
This was her mother's secret technique, the one that had never failed her in getting what she wanted from her father.
I have pulled out all my best tricks for you.
There's absolutely no way you can resist this level of charm. This time you're definitely going to fall for it!
She thought with great satisfaction.
As she spoke in her artificially loli voice, Khushi let her eyes fill with unshed tears, giving herself the most pitiful, most heartbroken expression she could manage to muster.
She looked like a wounded puppy begging for comfort.
But Alex's response was completely unexpected once again.
"Oh, I see. If you're not feeling well, you should probably go home and get some rest early tonight.
That's currently the best thing for you, rather than watching movies."
Khushi: "..."
What?
I said I am feeling down emotionally, and his advice was to go to bed early?
Where on earth had this man come from?
Was he made of steel or something?!
This level of emotional density should have been scientifically impossible!
Khushi was completely speechless and felt her depression deepening minute by minute.
The atmosphere between them became incredibly awkward, with her staring at him in disbelief while he seemed genuinely concerned about her supposed health issues.
No way.
I cannot fail like this!
Riya is going to come back any minute now. I have to make up something to happen quickly.
Khushi was starting to panic.
Time was running out thin, and she was no closer to exposing Alex's true nature than she had been when this whole evening started.
She really could not bear to watch her poor friend throw her life away on someone who was so obviously beneath her standards.
And it was most probable that he watched pirated movies too and had never taken a woman out for a proper date in his life!
Since Alex was being so impossibly stubborn, she was going to have to be even more direct.
Subtlety clearly was not working well with her.
"I actually live pretty close to this bar," Khushi said, switching tactics completely. "After you take Riya home tonight, would you mind stopping by my place? I get really scared being alone at home, and I was hoping you could keep me company for a while?"
She deployed her loli voice again, making it even more exaggerated this time, while throwing in some strategic blinking for good measure.
The invitation was crystal clear now.
She was literally asking him to come to her house after dropping off his girlfriend. If that didn't reveal his true colors, nothing would.
For Riya's sake, Khushi had thrown all dignity and subtlety out the window. She just wanted to get this security guard to show his real face so her dear friend could finally see what kind of man she was wasting her time with.
"Umm? Why does your voice sound like that?"
"Do you have a sore throat or something?"
Alex looked genuinely worried and actually reached over to pour her a glass of water from the jug on the bar.
Khushi: "..."
Ahh. Ow...wuwu. Everyone came to bars to drink alcohol!
And he was offering her plain water!
This was absolutely insane!
How could this man be so completely oblivious to every single social cue in existence?
She had literally thrown herself at him in every way she could think of, and yet he was treating her like she needed water!
At this point, Khushi was so stunned by his responses that she was beginning to question everything she thought she knew about dating and attraction.
Maybe she should just give up and never speak to this guy again!
