Chapter 95: The Witch's Bargain

Dakota: Alright, we're moving. The sooner we get out of this forest, the better.

Henry: Are you sure about taking that thing to the witch? She's not exactly known for her hospitality.

Ava: Hospitality? She's a witch. I'm pretty sure her last guest left in a stew pot.

Liam: Do we even have another choice? It's not like any of us know how to deal with… whatever this orb is.

Mia: The witch might be our best chance. If she can stabilize it, at least we won't have shadow wraiths chasing us every step of the way.

Amelia: Stabilizing it isn't the problem. Trusting her is. Witches don't work for free, and whatever she asks for, it won't be easy.

Jack: Well, maybe she'll ask for something simple, like… I don't know, a nice shiny rock or a song.

Lucas: (deadpan) Yes, Jack. I'm sure a centuries-old witch will trade her expertise for a lullaby.

Dakota: Enough. We'll deal with whatever she asks for when we get there. If she tries anything, we'll handle it.

Ava: Famous last words, Dakota.

---

As the group continued through the dense forest, the oppressive weight of magic lightened, but an uneasy tension lingered in the air. The trees seemed to shift around them, their gnarled branches twisting like claws.

Mia: The magic here feels… different.

Amelia: It's the witch's influence. Her domain warps the natural flow of magic. We're getting close.

Henry: Fantastic. A forest that hates us and a witch waiting to make a deal. What's next? A dragon?

Jack: Don't jinx it, Henry.

Dakota: Stay alert. The witch doesn't like uninvited guests, and we're definitely not on her list.

---

After what felt like hours, the group emerged into a clearing. At its center stood a crooked hut made of blackened wood and entwined with glowing vines. The air buzzed with energy, and the scent of burning herbs wafted through the clearing.

Ava: (wrinkling her nose) Smells like someone burned their dinner.

Liam: Or their last visitor.

Dakota: Quiet. Follow my lead.

Dakota stepped forward, the others close behind. As they neared the hut, the door creaked open on its own, revealing a dimly lit interior. A hunched figure emerged from the shadows, her glowing green eyes fixed on the orb in Dakota's hand.

Witch: Well, well, what do we have here? A group of trespassers bearing a gift. How thoughtful.

Dakota: We need your help. This orb—

Witch: (interrupting) I know what it is, boy. And I know what it can do. The question is… what are you willing to do for my help?

Ava: (whispering) Told you. Stew pot.

Henry: (whispering back) Not helping.

Dakota: What do you want?

Witch: (grinning) Straight to the point. I like that. But let's not rush. Come inside, all of you.

Amelia: We're fine out here.

Witch: (smirking) Suit yourselves. But if you want my help, you'll show some manners. Or you can try your luck solving this problem alone.

Mia: Let's go in. She won't help us if we offend her.

Reluctantly, the group entered the hut. The interior was larger than it appeared from the outside, filled with shelves of strange artifacts, glowing potions, and dusty tomes. A bubbling cauldron sat in the center, casting eerie shadows on the walls.

The witch gestured for them to sit around the cauldron, her grin never wavering.

Witch: Now, let's talk. That orb you carry is no ordinary trinket. It's a fragment of an obelisk, one of many scattered across this world. Together, they hold unimaginable power.

Amelia: We already know that. What we need is a way to keep it from attracting those shadow wraiths.

Witch: (chuckling) Ah, the wraiths. Poor little creatures, drawn to its energy like moths to a flame. I can help you, but my services don't come cheap.

Dakota: What's your price?

Witch: A simple favor. There's a flower that grows deep within the Ashen Grove. It's called the Nightshade Bloom. Bring it to me, and I'll stabilize your precious orb.

Jack: A flower? That's it?

Witch: (narrowing her eyes) This is no ordinary flower, boy. The Ashen Grove is a dangerous place, and the bloom is guarded by creatures far worse than wraiths. But if you're too afraid, feel free to leave.

Dakota: We'll get your flower.

Witch: Good. But be warned—fail to return before the next full moon, and the deal is off. And one more thing…

Dakota: What?

Witch: The orb. Leave it here.

Amelia: Absolutely not.

Witch: (laughing) Oh, don't worry, dear. I have no intention of stealing it. But if you take it into the Ashen Grove, it will only draw more trouble your way. Trust me, you don't want that.

Dakota: Fine. We'll leave it. But if anything happens to it, you'll answer to us.

Witch: (grinning) Of course.

---

As the group left the hut, the forest seemed even darker than before, the path ahead winding into a dense thicket of blackened trees.

Liam: So, we're risking our necks for a flower now? Great.

Ava: Better than sitting around and waiting for the orb to explode.

Henry: I just hope this Nightshade Bloom is worth it.

Dakota: It has to be. Let's move.

---

The group ventured deeper into the forest, the air growing colder with each step. Strange sounds echoed around them—whispers that seemed to come from the trees themselves.

Mia: This place… it's alive.

Amelia: Stay focused. The Ashen Grove isn't just dangerous—it's a maze. If we lose our way, we're as good as dead.

Jack: No pressure, then.

Dakota: Keep moving. We don't have time to waste.

The path twisted and turned, leading them to the edge of the Ashen Grove. The trees here were twisted and charred, their branches reaching out like skeletal hands. In the distance, a faint glow marked their destination.

Liam: That must be it. The Nightshade Bloom.

Ava: Let's grab it and get out of here.

As they approached the glowing flower, the ground trembled. From the shadows, monstrous creatures emerged—hulking beasts with jagged claws and glowing red eyes.

Henry: (igniting his flames) Of course. It's never easy, is it?

Dakota: Fight first, complain later.

The group braced for battle, their weapons ready as the creatures charged. The fight for the Nightshade Bloom had begun.
