Chapter 8: the tournament(1)

Both Luna and Mia stepped onto the fighting stage, each preparing for their upcoming battle. The stage was surrounded by a magical barrier to ensure that they could fight at full power without worrying about injuring the audience.

Luna: "I hope you're ready for me to take your 8th place spot."

Mia: "I'm not giving it up that easily."

Commentator: "Fighters, are you ready?"

Luna: "Yes, I am."

Mia: "Me too."

With that, the commentator teleported out of the barrier, signaling the start of the fight.

Commentator: "Begin!"

Both fighters immediately cast "Water Ball," launching orbs of water that collided in mid-air and exploded in a burst of mist. As the water vapor spread, Mia emerged from the explosion, using the cover to land a punch on Luna's face, knocking her back.

Luna: "Hmm, okay, that kind of hurt."

Mia didn't let up and activated her spell, "Water Beam," a concentrated stream of water that shot toward Luna like a powerful blast. But Luna anticipated the attack, dodging swiftly before rushing toward Mia and throwing a punch. Mia blocked her attack, smirking confidently.

Mia: "You're not going to hit me that easily."

For the next minute, the two exchanged a furious series of punches, neither one giving an inch. The crowd watched in astonishment as they traded blow after blow, forgoing their magic for an all-out fistfight.

Dakota (watching from the sidelines): "Damn, they're just pounding each other. This doesn't even look like a magic battle anymore—it's a fistfight."

Liam: "Yeah, it sure looks like that."

Lucas: "I wonder how long they're going to keep this up."

Ava: "Oh, look—they finally stopped."

Both Mia and Luna halted their attacks, panting and visibly exhausted as they staggered back.

Luna: "Ugh, I'm hurt… and tired."

Mia: "Me too… but I'm still not going to lose."

Luna: "Neither am I."

They both took a moment to catch their breath, then steadied themselves, preparing for the next round.

Mia (thinking): What can I do now? I need a strategy to take her down… wait, I have an idea.

Luna (thinking): This girl is good. I need to finish her off before she beats me.

Suddenly, Luna accelerated and rushed at Mia, aiming to punch her. Mia moved to dodge, but Luna halted her attack midway, surprising her.

Mia: "Huh? Why did she stop?"

In that instant, Luna jumped, forming a swirling water drill around her fist. Realizing Luna's intention, Mia's eyes widened.

Mia (thinking): Is she crazy? That attack could kill me! But… maybe this could work to my advantage.

Luna came down with the water drill aimed straight at Mia's stomach, intent on landing a decisive blow. But as the drill struck, Mia's body transformed, her torso turning into water so that the drill passed harmlessly through.

Luna: "What the… her stomach turned into water? How does she have such control over her magic at only 15 years old?"

Before Luna could react further, Mia quickly activated "Water Fist" and punched her with all her strength, sending Luna flying backward and knocking her out cold.

For a moment, the crowd fell silent. Then, cheers and applause erupted, filling the arena with excitement.

Henry: "Wow, Luna actually lost. Mia's pretty incredible."

Jack: "Tch. How embarrassing."

Dakota: "Well, I had a feeling Mia would win. That's one point for us, the Irregulars, and zero for the so-called main characters."

Liam: "Haha, yeah! Mia, I'm so glad you beat that arrogant friend of theirs!"

Lucas: "It's awesome that she won."

Ava: "That's my best friend right there!"

Mia raised her fists in victory.

Mia: "Woohoo! I won! Let's go!"

The commentator approached her, microphone in hand.

Commentator: "Congratulations, Mia! How do you feel about your victory?"

Mia: "I feel great, and my opponent was really strong, too."

Commentator: "Anything else you'd like to add?"

Mia: "Nope, that's all."

Commentator: "Alright then. Would you mind carrying the unconscious Luna to the nurse's office, please?"

Mia: "Sure thing."

Mia walked over, picked up Luna, and carried her off the stage. As she exited, her friends gathered around to congratulate her.

Dakota: "Mia, you were amazing out there! You really proved your worth to everyone."

Lucas: "Yeah, that was a fantastic fight."

Ava: "Of course you won—you're my best friend!"

Liam: "Haha, I'm glad you won, Mia."

Mia blushed, smiling shyly at all the praise.

Mia: "Thank you, everyone."

Commentator: "Alright, it's time for the second fight…"

Dakota: "Looks like the next match is about to start. Let's head back to our waiting room."

They all returned to the waiting area, watching the following battles with anticipation. After several rounds, it was finally Ava's turn to fight.

Commentator: "Now it's time for another exciting match between Ava Marley and Amelia Ellis!"

Dakota: "Alright, Ava, it's your turn now."

Lucas: "You can do this, Ava! Win just like Mia did!"

Mia: "Yeah, go out there and get another victory for us!"

Liam: "Yeah, win so I can do the same against Jack, and then Dakota can beat Henry. If we all win, our group will completely crush theirs!"

Ava smiled confidently.

Ava: "Don't worry—I've got this."

Dakota: "We're all cheering for you, Ava."

Ava looked back at him, a slight blush creeping onto her cheeks.

Ava: "Oh, well, if you're cheering for me, then I'll definitely win!"

Dakota: "Wait… just because I'm cheering for you? Really?"

Lucas chuckled, nudging Dakota.

Lucas: "You really are clueless sometimes, Dakota."

Dakota: "Huh? What did I miss?"

Mia sighed, shaking her head. "You'll figure it out eventually, you dummy."

Liam laughed. "Yeah, maybe one day."

Dakota: "What am I supposed to realize, exactly?"

Mia rolled her eyes. "Forget it."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the arena, Henry and Jack were giving Amelia some last-minute words of encouragement.

Henry: "Come on, Amelia, you've got this. Show them what you're made of!"

Jack: "And don't end up losing like a certain someone over here."

Luna glared at him. "Shut up, you jerk! I only lost because I was caught off guard."

Amelia grinned. "Don't worry. I won't lose."

With those words, she stepped out of the waiting room and headed to the fighting stage, where Ava was already waiting.

As both fighters took their positions, they locked eyes, each one filled with determination.

Amelia: "I hope you're ready to lose."

Ava smirked, brimming with confidence.

Ava: "I'm not here to lose—I'm here to win."
