Chapter 115: A Splash of Chemistry
---
The group had split up, each pair heading off to explore the massive water park. Dakota glanced at Ava, who was already scanning the area with an eager look in her eyes.
Ava: excitedly "Where should we start? I mean, just look at those slides!"
Dakota: smirking "How about we go big right away? No warm-ups, straight to the tallest slide here."
Ava: grinning "You're on. Let's see who screams louder."
With that, they made a beeline for the park's tallest ride: the Hurricane Plunge, a towering slide that sent riders free-falling before launching them into a giant pool below.
---
Climbing the stairs to the top of the slide, they joked and teased each other the entire way.
Ava: teasing "You sure you can handle this? I don't want to hear any excuses if you chicken out."
Dakota: laughing "Me? Chicken out? You're the one already holding onto the railing like your life depends on it."
Ava: mock glaring "Just wait until we get to the bottom. You'll see."
When they reached the top, they stood side by side, looking down at the dizzying drop. The rush of adrenaline hit them both, but neither showed a hint of hesitation.
Ava: grinning "See you at the bottom, slowpoke!"
With that, she launched herself down the slide, her laughter echoing as she sped away. Dakota followed right after, the sheer speed and rush of water making his heart race. When they splashed into the pool at the bottom, Ava was already there, laughing uncontrollably.
Ava: mock triumphantly "I beat you!"
Dakota: grinning "Only because you cheated by going first."
Ava: playfully splashing him "Excuses, excuses."
---
They spent the next hour tackling some of the park's wildest rides, from twisting tube slides to high-speed racers. Their shared enthusiasm for the thrills created an infectious energy between them.
At one point, they tried the Double Tornado, a two-person raft ride with sharp turns and sudden drops. Ava sat in the front while Dakota steered from the back.
Dakota: joking "No pressure, but if we flip over, it's all your fault."
Ava: laughing "If we flip over, you're the one who's fishing me out of the water."
The ride sent them hurtling down steep slopes and spinning through giant funnels. Ava's laughter mixed with Dakota's cheers as they navigated the twists and turns. By the time they splashed into the pool, they were both breathless and grinning from ear to ear.
Ava: beaming "That was insane! I think my stomach's still spinning."
Dakota: laughing "Let's do it again!"
---
After a quick break for snacks, they headed to the Wave Pool, where giant artificial waves rolled across the water. They waded in together, letting the waves crash over them.
Ava: smiling "This is nice. Not as crazy as the slides, but still fun."
Dakota: grinning "I don't know... I think you just needed a break after all that screaming."
Ava: splashing him "You're lucky I don't dunk you right now."
As a larger wave hit, Ava stumbled slightly, and Dakota instinctively reached out, steadying her with a firm grip. Their eyes met briefly, the playful banter giving way to something more serious.
Dakota: softly "You okay?"
Ava: blushing slightly "Yeah... thanks."
They stood like that for a moment, the sound of the waves and the laughter of other parkgoers fading into the background. Dakota eventually let go, his heart beating a little faster than before.
---
Their next stop was the Rocket Racer, a competitive slide where riders raced headfirst on mats. They both grabbed mats and lined up at the top.
Ava: determined "This time, I'm going to win fair and square."
Dakota: smirking "We'll see about that."
When the whistle blew, they launched themselves down the slides, neck and neck the entire way. By the time they splashed into the pool at the bottom, it was too close to call.
Ava: laughing "A tie? Seriously? That's no fun!"
Dakota: grinning "Hey, I'll take it. Means neither of us has bragging rights."
Ava: playfully "Fine, but only because I'm being nice."
---
As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, they decided to try one last ride: the Crystal Cavern, a fully enclosed slide that lit up with glowing colors as riders zipped through its dark twists and turns. They climbed into a two-person raft, Dakota in the front this time.
Ava: teasing "If we get stuck, I'm blaming you."
Dakota: grinning "Relax. I'll get us out of there if it comes to that."
The slide was a sensory overload, with neon lights flashing in sync with the rushing water. Ava laughed uncontrollably as they twisted and turned, her hands gripping Dakota's shoulders for support.
When they splashed into the final pool, Ava leaned back, catching her breath.
Ava: smiling "Okay, that was the perfect way to end the day."
Dakota: nodding "Agreed. We definitely need to do this again sometime."
---
As they dried off and headed to a quieter part of the park, Ava glanced at Dakota, a thoughtful expression on her face.
Ava: softly "You know, I wasn't sure what today would be like, but... I'm glad we paired up."
Dakota: smiling "Me too. It's been fun. I mean, who else could keep up with you on all those slides?"
Ava: laughing "True, I am pretty amazing."
There was a brief pause before Ava turned to him, her usual confidence giving way to a hint of shyness.
Ava: quietly "Thanks, Dakota. For... everything today."
Before Dakota could respond, she leaned over and kissed his cheek, her face turning slightly pink as she pulled back.
Dakota frozen for a second and then he threw ava a confused look.
Ava: "what? What are you so confused for? Did my kiss on the cheek not feel good?
Dakota: "... Huh no it's not that it's just...
Ava: "just what? You're really ungrateful you know that."
Ava walked away with a pout on her face, while Dakota was thinking about some things.
Dakota thinking: wait did she just seriously kiss me on the cheek, a 16 year old! While I'm like 39, shit.
Dakota: "hm I still wonder if she's really the reincarnation of her... If she is maybe I can fix the mistakes I did to them in my past life. And hopefully I won't do the same here.
