Chapter 111: unexpected meeting
Emma was really tired and was sleeping, so Dakota was currently carrying her on his back.
Dakota: "Wow, she's gotten heavier. Just what has she been eating?"
Ava: "Now that is not something you should say to a lady, Dakota. Don't say that to Emma, or else she's going to be angry with you."
Ava said with a sly smile on her face.
Dakota: "Why are you smiling like that? Oh, whatever. I just can't wait to get back—I'm hungry."
Henry: "Yeah, I'm quite hungry too."
The whole group agreed. As they walked, they also started deciding which restaurant to eat at.
After a while, they came to a conclusion. An hour later, they arrived back in the city.
Dakota: "Okay, we are finally back. Now, let's go eat at the restaurant."
The group headed to the restaurant. Emma woke up a while ago and realized she was on Dakota's back but pretended to be asleep. However, Dakota saw through her trick and put her down, forcing her to walk on her own.
When they entered the restaurant, Dakota saw something he didn't want to—his parents.
Yes, his parents were at the restaurant. Dakota was having a panic attack because he hadn't told them that their daughter had been kidnapped. He was planning to tell them eventually, but he wasn't ready yet, and here they were, eating.
Dakota (thinking): Maybe if we leave now, they won't see us.
But as soon as Dakota thought that, his parents immediately noticed him, his group, and Emma.
Mother: "Dakota! What are you doing here? Are you already back from your mission?"
Dakota: "Yeah, we are."
Dakota was clearly nervous, and his parents noticed that, along with the fact that he looked dirtier than usual.
Father: "...Something is going on here. All of you are coming to our house. Let's go."
Dakota: "Huh? Wait, we're all hungry! Let us eat firs—"
Father: "No. You're coming."
Dakota: "Agh, damn it."
Half an hour later, they arrived at Dakota's house. Everyone entered and sat down at the dinner table.
Father: "Would you mind telling us what happened, Dakota?"
Dakota: "Oh, um...you see..."
Dakota explained everything that had happened: Emma being kidnapped, him not calling for help, and their group killing a bunch of high-ranked Djinns and dark mages. But of course, the parents only focused on the first part.
Mother: "Huhhh! Your sister got kidnapped, and you didn't call us for help? You idiot!"
The mother was about to slap Dakota, but the father stopped her.
Father: "Now, calm down, honey. He said his emotions got the better of him, so it's not entirely his fault."
Mother: "Huh? He didn't call us for help when our own daughter got kidnapped! How could it not be his fault?"
Father: "So, if you were in the same situation, would you call Dakota for help?"
Mother: "...No, I probably wouldn't."
Father: "Exactly. You would get too angry, like Dakota, and wouldn't think to call for help. You'd immediately try to save her yourself. I would do the same, and Dakota did just that."
Mother: "...Yes, I understand. I'm sorry, Dakota. You know how I get caught up in my emotions. Please forgive me."
Dakota: "Ah, don't worry about it. I was actually expecting you to do worse, so I'll take this."
The whole table chuckled at his joke, even the mother.
Father: "But if anything like this ever happens again, please call us for help, Dakota."
Dakota: "...Okay, fine. I will. Can we go eat now?"
Father: "Yes, you can. Go enjoy yourselves."
Dakota: "Yay, thanks."
Dakota: "You want to come with us, Emma?"
Emma: "Yeah, why not? I really want to eat at a restaurant too."
Dakota: "Okay, then let's go."
The group and Emma headed back to the restaurant. Once there, they ordered their food and waited.
Dakota: "...That was an intense first mission for the start of the year. I wonder just how much worse it can get."
But he already knew it was going to get much worse. The Dungeon of Wishes and Terror was both the best and worst thing to happen to humanity. It could grant wishes, which was good, but it also housed terrors like Djinns stronger than high-ranked ones—the mythical Djinns—and other creatures humanity hadn't even seen yet. Those creatures were incredibly strong, but at least they still had some time to prepare.
Henry: "Yeah, I wonder if it can get any worse...but considering our luck, it's definitely going to get worse."
Henry sat back on the couch and sighed, worried about how much they would suffer in the future.
Ava: "Now, I don't think it will be that bad...I think."
Lucas: "Even you're not sure, huh? Yeah, nobody here is sure if we'll suffer a lot or not."
But Lucas was wrong. There was one person who knew—their captain, Dakota.
Dakota: "Oh, look, our food arrived! Now let's enjoy."
The group definitely enjoyed their food, devouring it in a few minutes.
Dakota: "Now that we're done with the food, what should we do now?"
Ava: "I have an ide—"
Dakota: "No! I will not go to the shopping mall."
Dakota cut her off before she could finish. He hated going to the shopping mall.
Ava: "Then I'm out of ideas. Anyone got any?"
Liam: "Well, we could go to the water park."
Mia: "The water park? Even though it's autumn?"
Liam: "Oh, so what? Did you forget that we have an indoor water park in our country? We can just go there."
Dakota: "Actually, I think that's a good idea. But I want to rest for today, so let's go tomorrow. Now, everyone go to your houses and get your swimsuits ready for tomorrow."
Everyone agreed and went home. When Dakota and Emma arrived at their house, Emma took a bath, and Dakota took a shower. Emma then decided to watch TV, while Dakota went to sleep.
The next morning, Dakota woke up, dressed, and prepared for the academy.
Dakota: "Today we're going to the water park. I can't wait—I'm so excited. The last time we went to a water park was in Italy, and now we're going again, but in our country."
