Chapter 103: flames of fury

The flickering light of torches cast long, eerie shadows in the corridor as Dakota and his team approached the heart of the enemy's stronghold. The oppressive aura of malevolent energy thickened with each step, and Dakota could feel the heat of his own flames simmering beneath his skin, ready to erupt.

The group stopped before a grand door, its surface carved with runes that pulsed with a dark, foreboding glow. Henry glanced at Dakota.

Henry: "If your sister's here, she's beyond this door. But so is something else—something strong."

Dakota: "Doesn't matter. We'll burn through them all."

With a swift motion, Dakota pushed the door open. The air inside was suffocating, thick with the acrid stench of sulfur and the unmistakable hum of concentrated magic. A group of high-ranked Djinns stood at the center of the massive chamber, their towering forms wreathed in swirling shadows and hellish flames. Around them, a cadre of dark mages chanted in unison, their incantations feeding the Djinns' power.

Dakota: "So, this is the welcoming committee."

One of the Djinns snarled, its glowing eyes locking onto the group. Its voice rumbled like thunder, dripping with contempt.

Djinn Leader: "Foolish mortals. You step into the domain of darkness, unprepared for what awaits."

Dakota: "We'll see who's unprepared."

Without waiting for a plan, Dakota raised his hand, a spiral of flames igniting around his arm. With a single motion, he unleashed a roaring inferno that surged toward the Djinns. The heat was overwhelming, but the Djinns stood their ground, the flames licking harmlessly at their shadowy forms.

Ava: "Dakota, you can't just charge in without a plan!"

Dakota: "My plan is simple: burn them to ash."

Ava sighed, summoning her twin swords of fire.

Ava: "Guess I'll have to keep you from getting yourself killed."

She darted forward, the molten blades in her hands slicing through the air. The Djinn closest to her retaliated, its massive claw swiping down. Ava leaped to the side, her movements fluid as she counterattacked with a slash that left a fiery trail across its arm.

Meanwhile, Lucas positioned himself at the rear, his hands glowing with a frigid blue light.

Lucas: "Hotheads up front, ice at the back. Let's see how they handle this."

He summoned a barrage of razor-sharp ice shards, sending them hurtling toward the dark mages. The mages raised magical barriers, but Lucas's ice pierced through, freezing one of them solid.

Liam: "Nice shot, Lucas. But let's add some spark to the mix."

Liam and Jack moved together, their lightning magic crackling through the chamber. Liam conjured a massive bolt that struck one of the Djinns square in the chest, while Jack followed up with a volley of smaller, precise strikes that disrupted the mages' chanting.

Jack: "That should buy us some time!"

Mia and Luna stood side by side, their water magic flowing in perfect harmony.

Mia: "Luna, let's make a statement."

Luna: "You read my mind."

The twins combined their magic, creating a tidal wave that surged across the room, slamming into two Djinns and sending them sprawling. The water hissed and steamed as it collided with their fiery bodies, but the sheer force of the attack was enough to knock them off balance.

Amelia, standing at the rear, raised her hands, her light magic shining like a beacon in the darkness.

Amelia: "I'll handle the mages. Keep the Djinns occupied!"

Her light magic pierced through the shadows, striking down two mages mid-incantation. The remaining mages faltered, their coordination disrupted.

Despite their efforts, the Djinns showed no signs of retreat. One of them roared, the sound reverberating through the chamber as it raised its massive arm. A torrent of dark energy erupted from its claw, surging toward Dakota.

Dakota: "Is that all you've got?"

He raised his hand, a wall of flames erupting in front of him. The dark energy dissipated on contact, but the impact sent tremors through the ground. Dakota gritted his teeth, his flames intensifying.

Dakota: "You think you can snuff me out? Let's see how you handle this!"

He charged forward, flames coiling around his fists. He struck the Djinn with a fiery uppercut that sent it reeling.

Henry: "Dakota, you're going to burn yourself out at this rate!"

Dakota: "Then don't just stand there! Back me up!"

Henry sighed, his own flames roaring to life. He joined Dakota, the two of them working in tandem to overwhelm the nearest Djinn.

Ava: "Save some for the rest of us!"

She darted in, her fiery blades slicing through a Djinn's defenses.

The battle raged on, the group's combined efforts slowly gaining the upper hand. The high-ranked Djinns began to falter under the relentless assault, their shadowy forms flickering.

Just as victory seemed within reach, the ground shook violently, and a chilling laugh echoed through the chamber.

Lucas: "What now?"

The walls began to shift, the shadows coalescing into a massive figure. A colossal high-ranked Djinn emerged, its form towering over the others. Its body was a swirling vortex of fire and shadow, and its eyes burned with an intense, otherworldly light.

Dakota: "Finally, something worth my time."

Mia: "Are you insane? That thing's on a completely different level!"

Henry: "She's right, Dakota. This isn't like the others."

The Djinn's voice rumbled through the chamber, filled with malice and disdain.

Djinn Overlord: "Mortals, you dare challenge me? I am Ze'drak, the Flame of Oblivion. You will burn in my eternal fire."

Without hesitation, Dakota charged at Ze'drak, flames erupting around him in a fiery cyclone.

Dakota: "Big name, big target. Let's see if you can live up to it!"

Ze'drak swiped at Dakota with its massive claw, the force of the attack creating a shockwave that sent him skidding back. Dakota steadied himself, his eyes burning with determination.

Dakota: "Not bad. But I'm just getting started."

He raised both hands, the flames gathering into the shape of a dragon. The fiery construct roared as it lunged at Ze'drak, engulfing the Djinn in a torrent of fire.

Ze'drak roared in anger, breaking free of the flames. It retaliated with a wave of dark energy that forced the entire group to scatter.

Ava: "This thing's on a completely different level. We need a plan!"

Dakota: "The plan is to hit it until it stops moving!"

Henry stepped forward, his flames merging with Dakota's.

Henry: "You're not doing this alone, Captain. Let's take it down together."

The two unleashed a combined inferno, the heat so intense that the air shimmered. Ze'drak roared, its body flickering under the assault.

Ze'drak: "You dare challenge me? Your flames are nothing compared to mine!"

The Djinn unleashed a torrent of hellfire, forcing Dakota and Henry to retreat. The group regrouped, their expressions grim.

Lucas: "We're going to need more than brute force to beat this thing."

Amelia: "I have an idea. But I'll need time to prepare."

Dakota: "Fine. We'll buy you as much time as you need."

The group charged at Ze'drak, their combined magic raining down on the towering Djinn. Lightning, ice, water, and fire collided with its form, forcing it to stagger.

As the battle continued, the chamber grew darker, the stakes higher with every passing second.
