I Reincarnated In G.I Joe

Chapter 127: Chapter 100

The sun glints off the endless blue. A SPLASH breaks the serenity as six figures dive gracefully from the prow of their boat, arcs of water trailing behind them. Bubbles rise in their wake as they descend into the mysterious depths below.

The water is alive with shifting light and shadow. The friends swim together, their bodies sleek and graceful. Kage pulls ahead, slicing through the water with ease. He reaches the sunken sportfisher first, its white hull eerie and still, a silent ghost in the ocean's embrace.

Kage glides past the three outboard engines, their once-powerful props now lifeless. He moves along the length of the vessel, his keen eyes scanning every detail. John B swims close behind him, while the others hesitate, their lungs burning. One by one, they break off and head for the surface.

Four heads burst from the water, gasping for air. They tread water, glancing back at the dive below. The sun beats down, and the salty air fills their lungs.

Kiara looking around."Where are Kage and John B?"

Kage gestures toward John B to follow. They circle the boat cautiously, their movements deliberate. Kage spots something – a faint glimmer inside the cabin. He glances up at John B and motions him to surface.

John B and Kage emerge, climbing onto the boat with practiced ease. John B extends a hand, pulling Kiara aboard. Kage helps Pope and Sarah scramble up, their breathing heavy from the dive.

JJ whistles, impressed."That's a Grady White. Primo rig."

John B nods, catching his breath."I saw this boat yesterday. It was caught in the surge. Must've hit the jetty."

Kiara skeptical."You surfed the surge?"

JJ grinning at John B."Fucking A. Pogues style."

John B smirks, clearly proud of his recklessness. Kiara, unimpressed, shoots him a sharp look."What the fuck, John B?"

Pope looking back at the water."Do you know whose boat it is?"

John B shook his head."No idea. But I bet we can find out."

Kage added."If I get the number, I can trace the owner."

Sarah was silent and uneasy."You think… anyone's dead down there?"

Kage, his face serious. "Could be. If it got caught in the storm, there's a good chance."

JJ sarcastic, but uneasy."Great. Let's just tell the cops and call it a day. If there's a body, they can deal with it."

John B agreed."We just tell them, we found the boat. Let them do the searching."He shoots Kage a grin, and Kage returns it. Without another word, they both dive back in.

Kage moves like a shadow, reaching the cabin quickly. John B trails him, searching the exterior. Inside, Kage finds the boat's registration number etched on a metal plate. He notes it before spotting something else – keys dangling from a hook near the wheel.

Kage hesitates, sensing something. He turns his head and sees it: a body. Floating face-up, caught in tall seaweed. The pale face stares lifelessly at him, a crab scuttling from its open mouth. Kage's jaw tightens. He says nothing and swims back out, keys in hand.

The group huddles on the deck, catching their breath. Pope is eager."Any bodies?"

John B shaking his head."None."

Kage stays silent, holding up the keys instead."Got this. Also got the boat's number. Iris can track the owner."

JJ peering over the railing."Any loot? Anything worth keeping?"

Kage replied."Just the keys. The rest is too deep."

JJ sighing, wistful."Man… nice boat."

Kiara considering."We should report it. We might get a reward."

Sarah smiling added."Extra pocket money wouldn't hurt."

JJ grinning."Maritime salvage. Finder's fee. We could coast through summer."

John B laughs, pulling up the anchor as Pope starts the engine. The boat roars to life, cutting through the water as they motor off into the horizon.

John looking at his brother said."Cha-ching. Maybe I'll fly Uncle Patrick back, avoid getting stuck with inland weirdos."

Pope mock offense."What's wrong with weirdos?"

John B jokingly replied."Not you. Other weirdos."

The group laughs as the boat speeds ahead, the sun sinking low in the sky behind them.

**EXT. COAST GUARD STATION – DAY**

*The Pogues, Kage, and Sarah steer their battered boat into the dock, weaving through a chaotic scene. Two COAST GUARD VESSELS loom large on either side as they tie up. Around them, boats list against the docks, others piled precariously onshore. A shattered mast protrudes from the water like a broken tooth. Beyond the dock, the town is a picture of post-storm wreckage – a mash-up of Amity Island and Nantucket. Boarded-up windows, rooftops in disrepair. Kids with sun-bleached hair skate on the steps of the post office.

The group disembarks, clambering onto the dock with a mix of purpose and weariness. They head toward the COAST GUARD STATION, passing piles of debris and locals shouting over each other.

The station is chaos incarnate. People shout over one another, jostling for attention. Sweat drips from everyone in the stifling, powerless room. No AC, no fans, just oppressive heat and frustration. The Pogues stand near the door, watching the madness unfold with detached amusement.*

A dog owner and a boat owner argue at the counter, their voices rising above the din."I'm missing my Briard! He's diabetic!"

Boat owner yelled."My boat! The Stanley! Gone!"

They elbow and posture like basketball players battling for a rebound. The seaman at the desk barely looks up, distracted by a crackling walkie-talkie in his hand.

Dog owner angry questioned."Do you even care?!"

Boat owner also angry added."We pay taxes for this!"

The Pogues along with Sarah exchange looks, unimpressed by the adults' desperation. While Kage knew this was the world of adults.

John B quietly to the group."If I ever get like this, shoot me."

Kiara smirking."Everything's sooo important."

John B steps forward, dodging around the squabbling locals. He taps the desk lightly to get the Seaman's attention."Excuse me, officer."

The Seaman raises a finger without looking up, busy jotting notes from his walkie."One second."

He speaks into the walkie, then picks up a phone and mutters something about interdiction. John B sighs, leaning slightly on the counter.*l"You're gonna want to hear this."

The Seaman doesn't even glance at him, disappearing into a back room with the phone still pressed to his ear.

Dog owner loudly, to no one in particular.

"Now he's walked away!"

Boat owner added his frustration."If the bridges don't get repaired, how are we supposed to make money?"

JJ drifts over to the desk, slyly snatching a pen and slipping it into his pocket. John B notices and gives him a pointed look and with low tone."Bad JJ. Put it back."

JJ shrugs and smirks, grabbing another pen for good measure. John B rolls his eyes as the dog owner turns to him, glaring."If you've got a request, kid, get in line."

Boat Owner snapping."These kids. Think the world owes them everything."

John B, unfazed, glances at the long, sweating line of people and makes a decision and motioning to the door."Let's go."

JJ pockets one last pen before they file out. The angry adults grumble as the door swings shut behind them.*

The group gathers outside in the hot sun. Kage steps away from the group, phone in hand and into phone."Iris, I'm sending you the number from the boat. Can you tell me who owns it?"

There's a pause. Kage grins at her response."Okay. I owe you one."

He hangs up and rejoins the group. JJ kicks at a loose piece of pavement, frustrated."Even if there was a reward, they'd find a way to screw us out of it."

Kage pulls the motel key from his pocket, holding it up. The group looks at it, realization dawning."I know how we can find out who owns that boat."

The Pogues exchange uncertain glances. Pope frowns, already uneasy."That could be anyone's room. We don't know who we're dealing with."

Kiara snatches the key, already heading toward the skiff grinning."That's what makes it interesting. Come on. We'll just be lookouts."

John B and JJ shrug, exchanging mischievous smiles as they follow Kiara. Sarah hesitates for a moment but joins in. Kage hangs back, amused but wary.

John B to Kiara, teasing."That way, you're only an accomplice."

They pile into the skiff, their chatter fading into the sound of the engine roaring to life as they set off.
