Chapter 218: The Gold Content of a Dayong Scholar
"Eunuch, are you ready?"
Liao Jinzhong looked at the rolling, boiling river water around him. His unease grew stronger; this disturbance didn't seem like something a martial artist could manifest.
The divide between the mortal and the immortal was like an insurmountable chasm.
In martial arts, the focus is on unleashing the body's potential, turning the tide with one's own strength.
But those who tread the path of the Xuan Sect not only have their own cultivation but can also harness the forces of nature. Rivers, lakes, mountains, trees, wind, fire, and lightning can all be used at their disposal. This is the difference between martial arts and the immortal path.
Liao Jinzhong tried to get closer to Xu Qing but found the air around him became unusually dense, even making it difficult to breathe.
Suppressing the turbulent water energy in his chest, the flames of the old eunuch's Protective Gang Qi leapt three stories high, forcibly holding back the encroaching forces of water.
Yet the way of water is both hard and soft, conforming to every shape, square or round. The water that Liao Jinzhong broke apart only reassembled as rain, sticking like maggots to bone, impossible to eradicate.
With his hands forming the water control technique, Xu Qing harnessed both water energy and earth Qi, casting mud and sand from the riverbed toward the trapped Liao Jinzhong.
At this moment, personal might seemed insignificant against the forces of nature. Liao Jinzhong was like rootless duckweed before the surging waves from all directions. His only option was to break the water's force and escape to the shore.
Above the water, Xu Qing's figure was long out of sight. Liao Jinzhong couldn't find him and suspected that Xu Qing was likely lurking in the water, waiting for an opportunity to strike, yet feared to venture in to seek him out.
A person adept in water control—following him into the water would be akin to a long-lived man tying the noose.
Just as Liao Jinzhong was planning his escape, turbulent river water, carrying sand, stones, and remnants of a broken mast and other wreckage, rushed towards him from a hundred yards away!
The force of the torn ship beams was far more terrifying than a volley of arrows. A true master, after all, has not entirely shed his mortal constraints. Liao Jinzhong dared not confront it head-on, so he shouted loudly, "Daoist Li, aren't you going to act quickly and stop this demon for me!"
"If I fall here, you may not survive either!"
In the distance, Daoist Crane Yi watched as the giant waves and water dragons howled and tore at Liao Jinzhong, his expression growing grave.
This person is indeed from the sect and must have a relatively complete inheritance; otherwise, he wouldn't have such high cultivation.
Li Heyi had no idea that while Xu Qing indeed had an inheritance, it wasn't meant for the living.
"Please lend me your Official Seal, Eunuch."
Not far away, a purple-red Official Seal broke through layers of water screens, shooting towards Li Heyi.
Li Heyi's face turned dark as he quickly used his duster to catch the flying purple-red seal; the old eunuch had exerted all his strength for fear that Xu Qing might intercept it.
Even though Li Heyi's duster was a Dharma Artifact, it couldn't withstand this force. Tens of thousands of white threads exploded in a crazy dance, making Daoist Crane Yi's heart clench to watch.
Fortunately, the Demon Hunting Captain stepped in to block it, stopping the purple-red seal the second time.
The great eunuch's Official Seal, also called a pass key, served not only as an identity proof but also as Grand Governor Liao's credential for handling palace affairs and executing the Emperor's orders.
Liao Jinzhong did not know what Li Heyi wanted his seal for, as he had little trust in these Celestial Master Mansion alchemists. But, treating the situation as a last resort, Eunuch Liao still grasped onto Li Heyi as a lifeline.
At the bottom of Baisha River, Xu Qing perceived all that was happening outside. He was equally puzzled about what Li Heyi intended to do with the eunuch's Official Seal.
It couldn't be that he planned to summon help from the Jin Sect's water force, because by the time they arrived, it might be too late.
Xu Qing remembered this about the seal, then, without further hesitation, seized on Liao Jinzhong's distraction, and rode the current to Liao eunuch's feet.
Like a lifeless Xu Qing, moving like a Water Ghost, even touching the master's feet, yet the other party was entirely unaware.
"If you have any courage, show your true skills against me, eunuch; what skill is there in hiding and sneaking around!"
Liao eunuch's eyes scanned back and forth, afraid that Xu Qing would find an opening.
Yet the more he feared, the more it happened. Just as he was about to step across to the shoreline, a massive wave, nurtured for ages, over tens of thousands of pounds, finally crashed over the twenty-mile span, sweeps down on him.
This wave was clearly long in the making.
Liao Jinzhong, unprepared, had just leaped tens of feet high, when he was smashed down by the towering hundred-foot wave.
Like swatting a fly, not only could he not withstand the impact, there was nowhere to hide.
His Protective Gang Qi shattered, Liao Jinzhong, in dire straits, fell towards the water's surface.
"This humble servant, graced by imperial favor, promoted to the third rank, how could I fall here?"
Grand Governor Liao spat a mouthful of blood, then, from an unknown reserve of potential, once more propped up his Protective Gang Qi. And it seemed even more robust than before.
Above the water, Liao Jinzhong used surging springs of energy beneath his feet to steady himself just as he began to stabilize, balancing on a piece of floating debris. Although the Baisha River's waters were still turbulent, the monstrous waves were gone, allowing the eunuch to take stock of the surroundings.
"Eunuch, are you looking for me?"
As Liao Jinzhong remained on guard, suddenly, ice-cold, iron-like hands gripped his ankles!
With this moonless night, in the dead of night, to have one's ankle suddenly grabbed in the river—doesn't that allow one to live?
"Ah!" the governor screamed.
Xu Qing's one sentence nearly frightened the soul out of him.
When did this living person slip under his feet? How could he do so without making a sound, without hinting at any living presence?
