chapter 255
The journey to reach the Mimax staff member who had summoned Magia was… less than smooth.
After all, the two of us had somehow become the celebrities of Manae Festival, with fans tailing us wherever we went.
At one point, a disappointed attendee—who’d gotten a photo earlier—pleaded again for another shot, and Pino had to shout back:
“We’ll take more later! We have to stop by the official booth first!”
Which, of course, only deepened the misconception that we were official cosplayers.
In fact, the misunderstanding worked so well that some of the trailing fans just followed us straight to the Mimax booth and started queueing.
Because if photos could only be taken at the booth, then you'd need to line up just to get near us. Even if all the Loro merch was already sold out, people figured they might as well take photos and maybe grab something else within budget.
So the already-long line at Mimax’s booth grew even longer.
When the event manager finally ushered us into the staff space behind the booth, he took one look at the winding queue outside and sighed deeply.
“We’ve got a problem.”
“What’s going on?”
“We’re… out of merch.”
Magia and Pino both glanced around the staff-storage area, only to find it surprisingly empty where piles of merch should have been.
We at Parallel had gone all {N•o•v•e•l•i•g•h•t} in optimizing stock levels—checking pre-sale ticket numbers, even consulting with the festival staff.
Selling out too fast is bad. Ending up with leftovers is also bad. Sure, you can sell online later, but fulfillment is a pain.
“Was it a miscalculation in your stock forecast?”
Magia asked, but the manager shook his head.
“No, not that. Just… bad luck.”
And then he explained the situation—basically a freak accident.
Manae Festival ran for both Saturday and Sunday, with most traffic concentrated on Saturday. So naturally, merch was split 2:1 for the two days.
Mimax had done the same. But due to limited booth storage, they planned to restock mid-day with more merch from the warehouse truck.
The problem?
That truck never showed.
“Turns out the delivery driver got into a car accident.”
“Oh no! Are they okay?”
“Thankfully, yes. Just minor injuries.”
You couldn’t exactly tell someone in a car crash to "get that truck here anyway." That’d make Mimax public enemy #1.
“We called the driver who was scheduled for tomorrow and begged him to come early instead. But it’ll still take a while to get here.”
“How long until arrival?”
“Should be just after lunch—maybe 30 more minutes before we can start restocking the display.”
In other words, they had 30+ minutes to stall an increasingly irritated crowd.
Which is why they had called in Magia.
“This might sound ridiculous...”
“A favor for me?”
“Yes. Could you, as Kurokumo Loro, keep the crowd entertained for the next 30 minutes?”
That was a ridiculous request.
Magia had never done any official cosplay work.
And while she had voiced Loro, all she did was speak. Now they wanted full-body performance—with acting?
“That’s... not gonna be easy.”
The manager deflated a little.
“Yeah. I figured. Sorry. That was too much to ask.”
She was the type to give anything a shot if it was needed.
“I said it wouldn’t be easy—not that I wouldn’t do it.”
“Huh?”
“If you give Parallel another ad deal down the line, I’ll gladly do my best.”
“Wait, that’s all it takes?”
“More than enough. Now, is there anything specific you want me to do—or anything I should avoid?”
“It’s just like when you recorded Loro. I heard from the voice director that you used a lot of gestures while recording?”
“Yeah, it helps me get into character and emote better.”
“Then that’s all you need. Most fans only know the Live2D illustrations. If you use the same gestures from the recording sessions, that’ll be more than enough.”
“Got it.”
“I trust you have a solid grasp on the character. Honestly, if you didn’t, you couldn’t have delivered that performance.”
Magia nodded calmly.
“Thanks for the trust. Shall I start now? Near the front of the line?”
The manager swallowed nervously and nodded.
“Y-Yes. I need to go explain things to the fans anyway. Please, Gia-nim. I’m counting on you.”
“You got it.”
Pino looked up, a little uncertain.
“Um, is there anything I can do? I want to help Gia-nim too…”
“Once the shipment arrives, could you help us arrange it on the shelves?”
“Absolutely! I better learn the layout first!”
This would go down as a first in Mimax history:
A voice actress, cosplaying her own character, performing live in front of fans to stall for time.
‘It’ll work. It has to…’
The manager had done his homework.
He knew the community response.
He saw how people reacted to Magia's Loro cosplay.
And he knew how many people recognized that voice.
… ─ — Coral Blue Gallery ─ ─ — …
[Who is this person 😂]
Why does her voice sound just like Loro?
The one next to her does all the talking, but when she says something, it really sounds like Loro. Is it just me?
[Comments]
— Coral011: Nah, I felt that too
ㄴ Coral119 (OP): Right??
ㄴ Coral011: Could it actually be the voice actress?
ㄴ Coral119: Wasn’t the VA someone named Dan_B?
ㄴ Coral011: Yeah but she’s not doing the Z… lol
ㄴ Coral011: I'm like 50% convinced, but I’ve got no proof, damn it
… ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ …
Three make a tiger.
Even if most people are uncertain, if just three users start saying it confidently—
Then the public will do the rest. The official Loro cosplayer becomes “confirmed” as Dan_B.
And the version of Magia walking around becomes, in the eyes of fans, Loro brought to life.
High-fidelity costume, small frame like the character, and that bone-chilling, in-game voice...
All the pieces were in place.
As if to meet the expectations—
Magia stepped confidently into view, grinned mischievously, and said:
“Heeeeh? So many Masters here? I’m shivering with fear~!”
Kurokumo Loro.
Final boss of Coral Blue Part 1.
A chaotic, villainous girl who opposes the player-character—the hero of the Servants—not out of logic, but obsession.
Like the Joker to Batman, she wants the Master to look only at her.
As she performed, Magia remembered only one thing:
Her provocations toward the CEO—when she tried to make her obsessed with the anonymous sniper who kept trolling her.
“But I don’t see any Servants? Then… are you all Masters from a parallel world? In that case, I guess I don’t need to be scared anymore~”
The crowd began murmuring.
Hearing Loro’s voice—right there in front of them—had fans pulling out their phones to record.
Magia dashed over, snatched someone’s phone, flipped it to selfie mode, made a peace sign, grinned like a gremlin, and handed it back with:
“Now you’ll never forget me, right? Kehihi~ Without Servants, I’m the Queen here!”
And of course, people started holding out their phones toward her, some even accidentally dropping theirs.
She scooped one up and recorded a silly tongue-out video before teasing the owner with a game of “will she give it back?”
Even though it was past 1 p.m.—the booth’s restock time—not a single person complained about the delay.
Meanwhile, the manager used the moment to explain things calmly to everyone in line.
And since Magia was moving from the front of the queue toward the back, no one who had just received an explanation was left hanging.
‘Perfect. Just like this, Gia-nim…’
Honestly, just grabbing attention would’ve been enough.
But Magia wasn’t done.
In the line were other cosplayers—people dressed as playable Servants from Coral Blue.
One of them clicked a shutter, and Magia jumped in mock shock.
“A Servant?! Where?!”
She grabbed a cube-like prop from her hip.
It looked like a floating diamond encased in clear plastic—a mysterious item Loro used in-game to trap Servants in her dimensional prison.
Only Loro could wield it—immune to curses, she’d use it to snatch away enemies and lock them up.
“Stay still. I’ll just keep you somewhere safe for now~”
The Servant cosplayer responded on the spot.
“You think I’ll believe you?! Let my friends go!”
“Let them go~? And why should I do that?”
“Because—!”
Magia pressed the cube to their stomach, stole their phone, and said in a mock-threatening tone:
“How about we snap a photo? I’ll send it to your Master and lure them over. Sound fun?”
“Tch…!”
“Okay now~ Say cheese~!”
For reference, Mimax’s booth was located at ZZ-2.
Right next to our Parallel booth at ZZ-3, and sandwiched between that and Bachubachu’s at ZZ-1.
It was already one of the busiest zones in the venue.
And now?
Thanks to Magia, it became the center of the entire festival.
