chapter 238
A little earlier, just before now.
As the Citizen side began making organized moves to launch their assault...
Red Hood, too, was busy with final preparations, convinced the offensive was about to begin in earnest.
Despite being a sniper, Mugeon was positioned at the frontmost line among the four members of Red Hood. Watching as the Citizen forces scattered and took their places, he spoke to Magia.
“If the defensive line gets breached, take the helicopter and get out. The encirclement’s layered, sure, but if we thin out their numbers, you should be able to ride out on Pin0’s bike without too much trouble. You remember the location, right?”
At this point, with things already going south, a battle ending too easily would be anticlimactic. Half-joking and breaking the fourth wall a bit, he was really telling her: don’t hold back too much.
Last week, on the final day, Mugeon’s betrayal had raised expectations sky-high.
Then, after a one-day server maintenance break that drove people mad...
For the following three days of treasure hunts, they’d kept players guessing with letters hidden inside the treasure (the delivery truck), taunting the seekers.
So, the Red Hood’s final moments had to be brutal.
The offensive had to be challenging enough to satisfy the attacking side.
And for that, Magia needed to be the last one standing.
Only after it was revealed that Darai was a puppet leader, and that the true mastermind was Magia, could the truth come to light.
That’s why Mugeon told her to flee by helicopter.
They’d turned the area around Warehouse #1 at the northern docks into a complete fortress, making even getting in a challenge—but if the other side had any decent strategy, it wouldn’t be impossible to break through.
Of course, as always...
Magia didn’t just accept the suggestion.
“I can’t run. They’ve got three helicopters too, remember? It’s obvious they’ll load up and try to flank us from behind. How am I supposed to escape like that? I thought you were smart, old man—turns out you’re just an idiot.”
“That’s not what I meant. I’m saying stall them as long as you can. That way, if I can hold the enemy off long enough, I can come back and cover you. Do I really need to spell this out?”
Magia giggled.
“I get what you’re saying, but this fortress isn’t going down so easy.”
“If the container walls get breached, they’re straight into the warehouse. Aside from the stacked crates, there’s nowhere to take cover in there—what are you talking about?”
“There’s a basement.”
“…A basement?”
Neo California’s architecture system didn’t include basements by default, but it had been added via mod for this Blitz City event.
Remember what happened the first time Mugeon let Darai slip away?
They thought she was dead after the warehouse exploded—but she’d escaped through the underground route.
“We built another fortress down there when we rebuilt this warehouse. Hehehe, no need to run far! Save the helicopter for when you’re the one trying to get away, chief!”
It was Dochi Construction that had rebuilt the destroyed warehouse.
And at the time, Dochi was already supplying Red Hood with explosives for demolition.
So when Red Hood requested it, building container walls like castle ramparts and carving out a basement fortress wasn’t exactly a stretch.
“Right… So this is our grave, huh.”
“I’ll say it again—you can still take the helicopter and run.”
“No.”
Mugeon murmured as if solidifying his resolve, gazing out the window.
“I’ve got a better idea. If the warehouse gets breached, run straight for the underground route.”
Magia followed him up to the second-floor balcony and peered outside, chattering as she looked.
“Already? It just barely started! And they got totally wiped out in their first dumb charge—”
“It’ll break.”
Mugeon pointed with his index finger—at a vehicle revving up, ready to move out.
A uniquely modified, blocky, bulletproof police vehicle—immune to gunfire, resistant to explosions—only one of its kind in the entire force.
“That thing’s going to ram through. No time for chit-chat—grab your stuff and move.”
“That’ll collapse the defensive line too fast.”
After tucking away his sniper rifle into his inventory, Mugeon strapped a pistol to his hip and said,
“No, it’s actually easier to hold them off once we fall back a bit. Grab your boss and Pin0 and head underground.”
*
A little later.
Just as Mugeon predicted, the "Trash Duo’s" armored vehicle narrowly navigated through the explosives—
BOOM——!!
—and slammed into the doors of Warehouse #1, flinging open the gates of the so-called iron fortress.
The vehicle even got stuck in the doorframe, blocking Darai’s fanclub from following them inside.
The two women, long called the “Trash Duo,” jumped out of the car at the same time, used the car doors as cover, and aimed their pistols straight ahead.
“Don’t move!”
“You’re surrounded!!”
But inside the warehouse… silence.
The only thing echoing was their own voices, and the muffled yelling of Darai’s fanclub from outside, telling them to move the damn car.
Orca cautiously advanced, gun raised, flashlight on.
Luna rushed in behind her, whispering.
“What the…? Why is no one here?”
“Right??”
And then—BOOM!!
“What the hell?!”
“Ahh!”
A deafening blast. The two inside the warehouse fell over with a clatter.
They scrambled back to their feet, but the massive steel supports holding the warehouse together were starting to groan like a dying beast.
Luna looked up at the ceiling slowly descending toward them and screamed.
Orca saw it too—the walls had blown out entirely, with only a few pillars barely holding things together.
“KYAAAA!”
“What do we do, what do we do?!”
But they weren’t the Trash Duo anymore.
Thanks to their successful maneuver, their minds kicked into high gear.
And what came to mind was something Chief Mugeon once said, on the day Darai escaped—when he ignored another officer’s advice not to call in the Trash Duo because they’d be useless.
“There was an underground waterway under the warehouse. Darai escaped through it.”
The same thought struck both of them at once—they looked at each other and shouted:
“Underground waterway!!”
No need for more words.
As if prearranged, they sprinted in sync, shoved aside a massive crate wall—
And revealed a hidden door that opened inward.
They fell straight through it.
SPLASH! SPLASH!
Landing in knee-deep water.
Slightly off their intended mark, they slumped against the wall, catching their breath—when thunderous crashes echoed from above, as if the whole world were collapsing.
— Whoa
— They made it!
— That was so damn smart
— “Trash” duo, huh
— Not trash anymore…
The warehouse crumbled behind them.
And just as they prepared to move down the underground stream again...
“Impressive, Woof Woof. Dolphin. I never thought the two of you, who couldn’t do anything without me, would be the first ones here.”
Mugeon appeared, holding just a pistol.
“Chief?!”
“What chief—he’s a traitor now!”
Orca immediately raised her pistol and pointed it at Mugeon.
“Thanks for the compliment, but you’re no longer our chief—or our superior. As a criminal who disrupted this city, you’ll face justice!”
Luna stumbled to draw her pistol too.
Three guns now aimed at each other.
Stepping forward, Mugeon cocked his weapon.
“You want me to pay the price? Then catch me. Right here.”
“Don’t come any closer! I’ll shoot!”
“I—I’m serious!”
Mugeon advanced.
The two women hesitated.
Even two-on-one, this was Mugeon.
Some primal fear held them back.
“What's wrong? Scared now that you actually have to put a bullet in my head?”
“Ugh…”
“I-I really will shoot you, okay?!”
— He’s so scary lol
— No seriously, he’s terrifying
— This isn’t 2:1, it’s more like 1.5:1
— Of all people, it had to be the Trash Duo lol
Honestly, the two of them were terrified of facing Mugeon.
They wanted to catch him and earn credit, sure—
But every time they'd faced him head-on during training, they'd been completely wrecked and humiliated.
That visceral, muscle-memory fear was carved into their bones, making them freeze over and over.
But they were the only ones who’d made it this far.
If they didn’t do something, Mugeon would escape again.
At the very least, they had to hold him back to cripple Red Hood’s forces.
The two glanced at each other—and their eyes changed.
That silent signal was all it took for Mugeon to fire first.
BANG!
“KYAA!”
“AAAHHHHHH!”
Luna barely dodged the shot to her head but fell, clutching her shoulder.
Orca returned fire—
Mugeon rolled, dodging the bullet, and shot Orca in the shoulder.
BANG!
“Agh...!”
Was this the Trash Duo’s loss?
But then, even while down, Luna was still aiming—
BANG!
A shot fired under pressure—barely—but it landed squarely in Mugeon’s thigh.
“Tch.”
“Nice one!!”
“Dolphin, now! Shoot!!”
“Not a chance!”
BANG!
“Ahhh!”
Even while staggering, Mugeon managed to land another shot into Luna’s fallen form.
But at the same time, Orca’s bullet struck him.
Every shot the Trash Duo landed was matched by one from Mugeon.
It was a real fight now—not the one-sided slaughter it used to be.
By the time all three emptied their magazines, both Orca and Luna were down, unable to move.
Mugeon, though still standing, was in rough shape—too injured to move quickly.
Gulping down a painkiller, Mugeon muttered,
“Well done. That was perfect teamwork. ✪ Nоvеlіgһt ✪ (Official version) You should’ve done that from the start.”
“Ghh... So frustrating…”
“We could have won!!”
— Lost, but fought damn well
— Honestly, this was incredible for the Trash Duo
— If it weren’t Mugeon they were up against…
— Just one more backup and they might’ve had him
— Now that the warehouse collapsed, reinforcements can’t get in for a while, huh?
Just like chat was saying—it had been that close.
Mugeon had aimed for the head every time—
But the two had pulled off some seriously sharp movements, avoiding fatal shots every time.
“Still, your movement was good. Looks like you remembered what I taught you. I’m proud of you.”
“What good is being proud now?!”
“You’re still a traitor! You’re dead meat!”
“If it bothers you so much… then get up and come get me.”
With a faint smirk, Mugeon struggled to his feet.
He began trudging deeper into the dark, damp sewer.
“I doubt we’ll meet again. So then…”
But someone blocked his path.
CLICK.
A gun barrel emerged from the shadows, pressing against his forehead. Mugeon froze, startled.
The underground fortress Magia had built had a T-shaped junction—upwards led back to the base, while straight ahead took you to a beach exit.
But that exit had long since been sealed off after Darai escaped through it during a past incident.
He knew the back route existed… but didn’t expect it to be breached this quickly.
“…Already?”
The two who stepped out from the darkness—
Were none other than the East Division Chief and West Division Chief.
They had originally planned to break through from the rear and head straight into the fortress, but had diverted when they heard gunfire and rushed over instead.
Covered in dust, the East Division Chief grinned.
“Wasn’t easy breaking through. Dochi Construction’s demo explosives helped a lot. Some of our people got carried out in a hurry, so… we’re not letting you go that easy, Chief.”
Mugeon was now a rat in a trap.
He’d survived the Trash Duo, but he was wounded too badly to escape.
And now, with the two most skilled officers just below him in ability standing in his way, there was no getting out.
“The subordinates you raised have come this far, Chief. For that much, we’re grateful. But it ends here.”
Mugeon tossed his pistol to the ground.
As the West Division Chief cautiously stepped forward and picked it up, he asked—
“…Any last words?”
Up above, the battle between Darai’s fanclub and the Citizens raged on, loud and chaotic.
But down here in the underground waterway, the sounds came through muffled, like distant thunder.
And breaking that silence—Mugeon spoke in a low voice.
“Long live Red Hood.”
BANG—!
Mugeon collapsed to the floor, disconnecting instantly.
His RP death registered, and he disappeared from the server.
Everyone who’d been silently watching from Mugeon’s POV finally began typing with trembling fingers.
— HOLYYYYYYYYYYYY
— That police teamwork tho lol
— Something about being caught by the cops he raised… hits different
— Delicious
— Mugeon OUT! Mugeon OUT! Mugeon OUT! Mugeon OUT!
— Down goes the turret boss
— Chairman is losing it
— That timing was PERFECT lololol
— Was worried they wouldn’t break through the sewer in time, but they nailed it
— Goodbye
