I Made The World Mutate

Chapter 32: Borrowing the Spirit Tablet

"No!"

"Absolutely not!"

Xiao Mu and Daoist Qing Yan spoke out simultaneously to dissuade.

"Why not?"

Village Chief Hao looked confusedly at the two of them.

Xiao Mu again looked to Qing Yan. Qing Yan only huffed, refusing to face him.

So Xiao Mu had to explain himself, "Village Chief Hao, this thing is steeped in potent evil energy. Once unearthed, it either brings death or harm to those nearby. It's probably safer to dig it up for destruction after we kill the Evil Ghost that resides within it."

Dirty stuff originating from our world is different from the dirty stuff brought over from the Different World.

Dirty stuff from the Different World may carry strong evil energy, but the harm to native beings of our world is limited to the evil energy itself due to its foreign origins.

However, the dirty stuff that inherently exists in our world is another matter. Once unearthed, anyone, including their descendants, connected to it will be cursed. The curse can potentially cause severe illnesses, lethal accidents, and prevent salvation or healing attempts.

"Kill the Evil Ghost?"

Village Chief Hao asked in confusion, looking at Xiao Mu, "How do we kill it?"

His intention to invite Xiao Mu and Daoist Qing Yan was to do away with the Evil Ghost. However, so far, these two didn't seem to have a clear-cut plan to execute the ghost.

Xiao Mu once again turned to Qing Yan.

Qing Yan slightly raised his chin, clearly indicating his unwillingness to give Xiao Mu any advantages – he insisted on Xiao Mu speaking first.

Xiao Mu stated: "In my view, if we want to get rid of the Evil Ghost, we first need to figure out a way to lure it out."

If the Evil Ghost doesn't come out and continues to stay underground, we really don't know how to kill it.

This is also why there are a lot of invisible Evil Ghosts hidden in cities, while the Relevant Department can't do anything about them.

The logic is simple: all Evil Ghosts are incredibly cunning.

If people who participate in the ghost hunt increase, the Evil Ghosts tend to stay hidden, resulting in their unreachable state.

The Mutated Beings can't possibly go underground to kill Evil Ghosts, can they? Besides, the so-called underground is actually another world. Currently, Mutated Beings don't have the ability to break through the spatial Boundary Wall, not even the Yin and Yang World Barrier.

If there are fewer individuals attempting the job, or if their powers weaken, they pose no threat to the Evil Ghosts.

The Relevant Department struggled enormously against the existence of Evil Ghosts. They simply had no solutions.

In contrast, handling Zombies was much easier since they, unlike Evil Ghosts, can't transform and hide underground where they are impossible to find.

But, most Zombies hide in the deep mountains. In this world, which has expanded tenfold in area - a remote hideaway is enough to keep the Relevant Department searching for several days.

Following the World Mutation, the control ability of the Relevant Department has significantly diminished. This was not only shown in the control of the Mutated Beings from our world, but it showed even more in their capability to eliminate Zombies and Evil Ghosts.

Qing Yan's expression shifted, his plan was the same as Xiao Mu's - to draw out the Evil Ghost.

"Lure out? How do we do that?"

Village Chief Hao asked doubtfully.

Although the Evil Ghost frequently appears, it does so unpredictably. We have absolutely no way to ascertain when, where, and how it will appear.

Qing Yan lowered his head, deep in thought, without any solution in mind.

However, Xiao Mu proposed: "Village Chief Hao, I want to borrow a few Spiritual Tablets from your village to attract the Evil Ghost."

Spiritual Tablets represent Yin Spirits, and their attraction to Evil Ghosts is tremendously strong, considering Evil Ghosts need to absorb the souls of other Yin Spirits to increase their strength.

With Spiritual Tablets and some arrangements, it would be relatively easy to lure out the Evil Ghost.

Qing Yan's eyes lit up immediately as Xiao Mu's words reminded him, "Indeed, Spiritual Tablets can be used to draw out the Evil Ghost."

"What? Spiritual Tablets?"

Upon hearing this, Village Chief Hao's face turned ashen as he vehemently objected: "No, absolutely not. We can lend you anything else, but absolutely not the Spiritual Tablets. Are you two not aware of what they represent?"

"These are the very ancestors of us villagers! What if something goes wrong... No, absolutely not. We can negotiate on anything else, but the Spiritual Tablets are strictly off-limits."

Saying this, Village Chief Hao became noticeably agitated.

He considered this request to be overly excessive.

Upon hearing this, Qing Yan scoffed coldly and berated Village Chief Hao, "Without the Spiritual Tablets, how are we to draw out the Evil Ghost? And without drawing out the Evil Ghost, how am I as a Daoist supposed to eliminate it for you?"

While saying this, Qing Yan displayed a splendidly arrogant expression, "Besides, with me around, what's there to worry about? Whatever Evil Ghost it might be, I will strike it down with a single sword swing."

Village Chief Hao shivered with rage. Asking him to lend the Spiritual Tablets was like asking him to commit suicide. As for Qing Yan's assurance, it held no value in his eyes.

After all, it's not your ancestors at stake here; you have no reason to worry. And if an accident does occur, it certainly won't affect you or your household.

However, for the villagers, who would willingly put their ancestors at risk?

Even if Village Chief Hao agrees to borrow the tablets on their behalf, he knows he wouldn't arrive anywhere with his requests. No villager would be ready to give up their ancestors' Spiritual Tablets to attract Evil Ghosts.

Xiao Mu understood the importance attached to the Spiritual Tablets, but there was no other option without them to lure the Evil Ghost.

After some thought, he tactfully suggested: "Village Chief Hao, I understand the significance of the Spiritual Tablets. However, I have a suggestion I want to share, and I want to know whether it will work."

Xiao Mu's attitude was much better than Qing Yan's, thus earning a better impression from Village Chief Hao, "Mr. Mu, what's your suggestion? Let's hear it. But remember, the Spiritual Tablets are strictly off-limits. Even if I agree, I just can't borrow it from the villagers. They would never agree to it."

Xiao Mu smiled modestly and didn't refute Village Chief Hao's words. "I understand that borrowing the Spiritual Tablets is not feasible. However, after this many years, there must have been households in your village that have lost all their members."

"Village Chief Hao, can you perhaps find a way and negotiate with the deceased's distant relatives to allow them to help set up a tablet? Having these tablets handed over, we can attract the Evil Ghost."

"This..."

Village Chief Hao was initially stunned but soon drew in a sharp breath, fixing his gaze sharply on Xiao Mu, "Mr. Mu, that... isn't it really unscrupulous? Using the tablets of the deceased households… that is not right at all."

Using the tablets from households that had lost all their members was, in Hao's view, an utterly sinful act.

Xiao Mu sighed: "Village Chief Hao, I realise this method is perhaps somewhat unethical. However, in order to draw out the Evil Ghost, other than this, there really don't seem to be any better alternatives."

"Or would you prefer the villagers of your town to use their ancestors to draw out the Evil Ghost? Even if I wanted that, they obviously wouldn't agree."

"Using the tablets from deceased households is really the only option we have left. I thought for sure you would want the Evil Ghost eradicated from your village, right?"

"Not to sound harsh, if the Evil Ghost is not rid of, your villagers and their ancestors are the ones who will suffer."

"Moreover, in front of you, Village Chief Hao, I am willing to take a blood oath, that while we use the tablets of these deceased households, even if I die, I will protect their Yin Spirits."

"Knowing this, can you put your mind at ease?"

"If you still hesitate, why not get the villagers to burn incense in their honor? They will be appeased by the extensive offerings, and I believe they should be satisfied."

"For these deceased households whose spirits have lost all forms of worship, using them to attract the Evil Ghost will not expose them to any danger, but they will be able to enjoy a rare occasion with full incense worship from all the villagers. In this way, we can say that we have made it up to them."
