Chapter 608: Melissa's Powers
The day ended, but Connot's mind was still trapped on their conversation. He was indeed the first person that Elliot trusted, but there was never a thought in his mind about betraying his friend.
"Will I really betray him?" Connor asked himself, his body laid flatly on the bed and his eyes stared at the ceiling. "I can't damn sleep."
The boy walked out of his room and climbes to the roof of Rebecca's inn. He sat and stared the city that they protected, smiling as he realized that these people were lucky to never experienced the hardship that they went through just hours ago.
"It felt like a long time ago that I get to see a city without thinking about protecting it." Connor tried to close his eyes when he felt a presence beside him.
The boy stood and raised his guard, a quick sigh of relief escaping his lips when he realized that it was only Irus. "Chill, Connor. It's just me."
Connor sat back on his spot, eyes looking down after he remembered Irus's threat just earlier. He wanted to speak about it, but he never knew how. He only sat there and looked down the brick ground of the inn's entrance.
"I just stated facts " Irus finally broke the silence that suffocated the other. "It's true that the ones that the first person that the previous owners of Elliot's ability would betray them eventually. Usually, it's because of the realization that the owner has always been above them and they are nothing without the owner."
"But I don't need anything to prove myself," Connor clarified. "I am an Eternal of Inferno, a title that I do not need to be jealous of anything from anyone."
"Yet Elliot is the Prophecized Boy. The man who will end the war and will ascend as an Absolute," Irus retorted. "What will your title be then?"
"His friend," Connor said firmly. "I'd rather be not be anything else, but I always wanted to be his friend."
"Second owner, name Ran killed by his best friend whom he saved from trafficking," Irus recited. "Fourth owner, Yamato. Killed by his best friend due to a conflict in the title of king. Last owner, Reginald. Killed by his friend who knows nothing but bloodlust. I couldn't protect those people before, but now I can definitely protect Elliot."
"Then fine." Connor raised his hands in surrender. "I don't want to do anything to Elliot. If you really think that I would betray him, then you believe what you want to believe. I am done with you."
"Don't you dare walk away from me!" Irus pulled Connor's shoulder so he would spin to face him. "I was talking to you. You never look back on a king."
"I am an Eternal of Inferno," Connor said, his voice matching the threatening tone of Irus. "You are a mere king of an abandoned kingdom. Do not even try to compare yourself to me. I have helped Elliot save the world several times. You just helped barely with this one.".
Irus was speechless as he watched Connor leave the roof. He watched his hands that were shaking in fury, and a feeling that he could not describe.
"What is happening to me?" He asked himself before retreating to the Black Castle and rest.
The morning came, everyone went to the dining hall where stories of the battle from the previous day were told. Everyone laughed as they continued to speak, noting of every fight that ensued.
"So, then Rebecca wanted the mirror where Melissa was kept hidden. But we had to stop her," Sun said. "It was then that gramps revealed his true power. The woman, who was noted to be one of the most powerful being in Hell, was no chance against him."
The door opened, causing everyone to look back. There she was, Rebecca who was dirty and wounded.
"You speak of the woman in her own establishment like that?" Rebecca mocked. "What nerve."
"What the hell happened to you?!" Elliot gasped, running towards her and helped her enter.
"Let me heal her," Melissa offered, waving her hands in the air and poured a flowing black aura to Rebecca.
The latter shook her head and pointed her thumb behind her, signalling something.
"There are those two who needs your help more than me."
Elliot glanced behind her and gasped, almost dropping Rebecca in the process. "Trick and..."
"Big sister Elena!"
Melisss immediately stopped treating Rebecca and headed outside, exuding a large amount of energy and poured it towards her friend. "I thought I lost you!"
"She battled against her death," Trick laughed. "We had to help her."
"But..." Melissa took a deep breath after seeing that all three suffered heavy injuries. Their wounds were deep and their bodies were barely hanging by a thread. "I have to help you!"
Melissa stood and raised both her hands, clasping it and lowering it in front of her chest. She closed her eyes and conjured a large cloud over the inn, casting her spell on the three injured people by pouring a dark cloud into their bodies.
"Oh, no. Dark clouds. Bad omen," Rebecca retorted, causing Melissa to chuckle. "What? Dark magic is usually bad."
"I'm a walking irony. A healer with a Black affinity," Melissa said. She continued her chant and enveloped the three with the dark clouds, a small sparkling glitter occasionally bursting inside. "But I could say. I'm the best there is."
The woman opened her hands, raising the right one and conjuring an orb that was made of dark energy. She gasped and a blast of dark pulsing orb pushed out from the clouds and combined with the orb in her hand.
"This is very easy," Melissa said as the orb solidified, forming a dark pink crystal. She closed her hands to crush the crystal, and the clouds vanished into thin air not long after.
Rebecca, Trick, and Elena came out of the clouds, all fully healed from their life-threatening injuries. Rebecca, who was the only one that was conscious at this point, laughed. "This magic is amazing. The healing abilities you have is impeccable!"
Melisss used a small dark cloud to absorb the fragments of the crystal. She picked one up and examined it. "Crystals of pain. That's what I call these. See that?"
Rebecca took a closer look, eyes narrowed as she failed to see what exactly it was she should look for. "What?"
"The more crystallized the mineral, the more injuries you sustained," Melissa said. "The fractal formation of these crystals are that of a black diamond, basically unbreakable. This means that you weren't just almost dead, you were dead at some point. But your will carried you here."
"So, basically, they're zombied?" Elliot asked. "Cool."
"Not cool!" Rebecca scoffed. "A gender-bending zombie does not sound cool. At all!"
"But you saw it too, didn't you?" Trick woke up and spoke. "That tiny white wisp that led us here. You were the one who was awake the whole time but I was there after we killed the Curse Takers. There was a wisp that appeared before us and led us here."
"You mean this?" Connor walked towards them and raised a finger, a white wisp appearing on its tip. "After a fight with one of my friends, something called me. And I realized, I'm a Harbinger of Death."
