I Know the Secret to Surpass Level 100

Chapter 606: Reunion with Melissa

Elliot did not waste any more time and rushed to his mother. He was nervous yet there was a hint of excitement. After all, he did not expect to see his mother again after all those years that they have been apart.

The boy held the box tightly around his chest, feeling the warmth of the last piece of his mother's soul from the wooden container.

"Who was that woman?" Lance asked. "Did you know her? Or has your mother ever mentioned her name?"

Elliot shook his head. "My mom never talked about her family. I guess I now know the reason why. But there was someone she sometimes mention, an old lady that took care of her when she was younger. But that was a long time ago, I couldn't remember what she said to me."

"Then I guess we'll ask her now, " Lance said, pausing from his tracks. Elliot also stopped, wondering what happened. It wasn't until he looked on his right that he realized they were in front of a group of familiar faces.

"Hey!" Midnight waved. "Over here!"

Elliot took a deep breath as he scanned over them one by one. Midnight, Sun, Francoise, and the face he wanted to see for so long.

"Mother!" Elliot cried, dashing towards his mother. There was a faint spark in the woman's eyes, signaling that she was still there, but was lost.

"What's in that box?" Francoise asked. "That's an extremely powerful item inside."

"It's her soul," Elliot replied. "A woman named Elena gave it to us and said to bring it to her."

"Elena? Where is she now?" Francoise looked around to try and find the woman.

Hearing the hint of worry in the old man's voice, Elliot could only look down. "She... After she gave me this box, her body started to crumble. She said that she had to pay for what she did, but I don't even know what she has done."

"Elena was one of Malice's servants," Midnight explained. "She was one of the attendants of the Princess, the oldest one too."

"So, the crimes she did..." Elliot trailed off. "What did she meant by that?"

"That she was a contributor to the crimes that Malice did to her daughters," Midnight simply said, a slight bitterness was evident from his voice. "An accomplice to the horrible things that a parent did to her children."

To Midnight, Malice's actions were personal. As someone who also suffered maltreatment from his parents, his grudge for the late Queen's actions were much bigger than everyone could ever imagine.

Elliot did not add more fuel to the fire that is Midnight's raging anger. He knew far to well that this kind of topic would piss Midnight off.

"But it was unfair." Everyone looked at Midnight when he added. "Elena was as f*cked up as all the other victims. Malice was truly the worst."

"Indeed," Elliot added, laughing. The others followed, feeling the tense of their topic slowly dying down. "But now that her reign has ended, people will be free."

"Your mother will be free." Midnight smiled, signaling for Elliot to open the box. "Go meet your mother."

Elliot nodded, placing the box over his left hand while his right hand lingered on the metal latch on the box. The boy took a deep breath before unlocking the container, a bright blue light emitting from the inside.

When he finally opened the lid, a burst of light ignited the forest. It was a blinding pale blue light, but was warm on the skin. For the first time in years, Elliot felt his mother's warmth. He felt her pale skin embrace him like she always does, and her gentle voice soothing him as he fall into sleep.

"Elliot..."

The boy forced his eyes open, watching as the light come back from his mother's eyes. She took a deep gasp and clutched her chest. "Oh, my Almighty!"

Elliot's lips trembled as he heard his mother scream. "Mother!"

"Elliot?" Melissa covered her mouth with her hands. "My child?"

The woman wrapped her son with her arms, crying as the boy sobbed on her chest. The reunion was emotional, causing the others to break out in tears. They never imagined that Elliot would see his mother again. After so long of being alone, he found his friends, and now he met his mother again.

"Your child? More like your sibling. You look so young, Melissa!" Francoise laughed.

The woman was dumbfounded. "You're... Old!"

"For so many years and that's how you greet me," Francoise sighed. "You really are something."

"Of course, I am!" Melissa stood, with Elliot still clinging to her. "I am Melissa, the unsung sixth member of Pentos after all!"

"You're a member of their guild, mother?" Elliot asked. "How?"

"Pentos was initially just them, but then I joined after a while as a secret member, just like Trinidad who's an honorary member," Melissa said. "I now remember. I have to pay her a visit soon."

"You even know the Guard of Conquest," Elliot muttered. "I have always thought you were this kind and gentle woman."

"There's nothing kind and gentle about Melissa the Monster!" Francoise groaned. "She's the most vile, most vicious, and the meanest beast there ever was and there ever will be."

"Well, at least I'm not old and wrinkly like a raisin!" Melissa laughed, causing Francoise to freeze. The woman realized what she just said, but it was too late. Francoise was already sulking on the side.

Lance cleared his throat and offered his hand. "Nice to meet you, ma'am. I am Lance the First, Bearer of the Twin Swords, and the First Prince of Avancia."

"Ohh. A prince!" Melissa cheered. "And what may I do the honor, my prince?"

"You never use your prince name, what the hell is this?" Elliot commented, his face in a deadpan.

The two ignored him and continued with their conversation.

"I am one of Elliot's friends," Lance introduced. "Your son is the hero of Solaguer, actually the entirety of Avancia. He has feats that would make everyone, including Pentos, put down to shame."

"Ah, I see what's going on here," Melissa chuckles, her face looking both ways as she rolled her sleeves. "You want accomplishments, I'll tell you what our accomplishments are, child!"

"Oh, god," Elliot sighed as he shaked his head. "This wasn't how I pictured our reunion would be."
