Chapter 598: Show Me Your True Form
"The battle is not over yet."
The mist sparked with a dark purple hue followed with a soft whistling tune. Midnight realized the skill that was used. He tried to escape, but it was too late.
"Sleeping Gas." Trick appeared behind Elena. He towered over the little woman who was now trembling in fear. She held on to the wooden frame as much as she could, unable to do anything.
"Demons really have higher resistance to these skills, huh?" Trick said. He grabbed the painting, but immediately felt an ominous presence. "And yet there's one that shouldn't have been, but now he is."
Midnight slammed his leg to the ground, sending a wave of powerful shake. Trick leaped from the ground, the portrait in his right hand and his free hand ready to cast a skill.
"As if I'd let you go!" Midnight yelled. He morphed into his Forsaken form. He bent his knees down and opened his wings that were larger than his own body. With a powerful thrust, Midnight catapulted himself from the ground.
"Oh, sh*t!" Trick yelled. His skill was only a second too late from being cast when Midnight reached him, the grin on the latter's face was etched from ear to ear. "Waking Nightmare."
Trick switched skills, slamming his hand on Midnight's face as a wave of dark shadows erupted from his palm. The dark energy that pulsated from his body wrapped around Midnight, coating his entire body that caused him to lose his balance and fall.
"From the darkness that was lost, to the darkness that was forgotten," Elena clasped her hands together. "I pray that the darkness is eaten away from this man. Free him from your clutch and open his eyes. Allow him to bathe in your powers!"
"Too late," Trick sighed. "You'll see the princess once this is all over."
Trick was about to escape when a hand was placed on his shoulder. He pulled back from the grasp in a blink of an eye, escaping what would've taken him.
"You think I would lose just because you have your tricks?" Midnight chuckled. "You have no idea what I'm capable of."
The darkness that covered Midnight vanished. The skill that Elena used allow him to break free easier than it would have taken him alone.
"That was an amazing skill," Midnight smirked. "Too long to cast though, and you don't have much mana to begin with. It must have been draining."
"Yeah, a bit." Elena had to sit down from the fatigue from casting a single skill. As a handmaiden and a lowborn, she didn't have the chance to train her magical abilities. She was born to serve the nobles and training for what soldiers need does not make sense for her.
"You should relax," Midnight said. "I got this."
Elena nodded and tended to Sun who was knocked out. She looked around to see where Francoise was, but the man was found nowhere. "Where could he be? Mister Midnight is fighting one of the most dangerous Vassals. Please come now, Mister Francoise."
He reached Trick not a second later. He was still in his Forsaken form, eyes blood red and grin wide. "You made a deal with Rebecca last minute, didn't you?"
"You think any of us stood a chance against that old man?" Trick chuckled. He distance himself away from Midnight, fully knowing that any distance closer would spell death.
He knew the capabilities of his enemy just from the fight he had with Rebecca. He knew then that Rebecca doesn't have a chance against Midnight, therefore it would be impossible for him to fight any of them.
"Why don't you use your True Form?" Trick asked. "That would knock me out immediately, you know? It would make the fight easy for you."
Midnight shook his head. "I don't need that form. This one is enough."
"You look down on me too much, young man," Trick chuckled. "But I have seen your fight against Rebecca. You might be impressive, but you're not unbeatable."
Trick raised the portrait and slid it into a slot that went through another dimension.
"Give it back," Midnight threatened, eyes glaring at Trick. "It belonged to us. Free the princess now!"
"I'll give it back once you defeat me," Trick said. "I set the skill to automatically deactivate once I'm unconscious."
"What if you were to die?" Midnight threatened. "What would happen to the skill then?"
"Still the same thing," Trick chuckled nervously. He gulped and looked around, trying to find a way to escape his opponent.
"Eyes here!" Midnight yelled. He raised his claw, slashing forward in an attempt to kill the man.
Trick wrapped himself with a dark green coat, which allowed the claw to pass through him. He took a deep breath as Midnight growled and continued to slash. He relentlessly tried to cut Trick, but the latter was invincible.
"How?!" Midnight groaned. He distanced himself from Trick and conjured a sphere of pure dark energy instead. "If I can't hit you physically, then what about with magic?!"
He fired his attack, causing the nearby air to be distorted. Trick just smirked and switched cloak, this time it was a blue in color. The sphere only passed through him, like what happened to the claw attacks.
"Cloaks of Dominion," Trick said. "This ability allows me to be invincible through attacks, physically, magically, or both. I can tell you this because I can say, you can't beat me with this."
Midnight growled and leaped towards Trick. He continued his barrage of attacks, growling as in frustration as he wasn't able to lay a single scratch on the man. Trick could switch cloaks faster than Midnight could land his hits. It was a frustrating scene to be watched in any angle.
"Give up now," Trick said. "You can't defeat me in any way."
"Yet you're still here," Midnight smirked. He stepped back and narrowed his eyes. "If my hypothesis is true…" Midnight grinned. "Your cloaks have limit. I have an immensely large amount of mana pool after I unlocked my full potential. I can do this all day, but your cloak can't."
Trick was stumped. He didn't expect for Midnight to figure it out so quickly. He needed to escape now.
"Then you can't use teleportation skill while your cloak is active," Midnight further stated. This sent Trick on edge. He was speechless. Everything he had was figured out. "I can just continue my attacks until your cloak wears out. That wouldn't be a problem for me, you know."
Trick narrowed his eyes, trying to see if the man was bluffing. When he couldn't find any bluff in Midnight's face, he went pale.
"Now we're talking," Midnight laughed. "I'll give you a good show."
Elena watched them fight from afar. She was calm when she saw that Midnight had the upper hand. It was a relieve for her. It was until Midnight's skin peeled, revealing his True Form.
"Mister Midnight, no–" Elena's mouth was covered with a pair of large hands. Trick stood behind her, smirking.
"He fell right into my trap," Trick said. "As someone who wanted to kill Malice but has weaker powers than her, the best I could do was seal her. She was too powerful, so I needed to weaken her. But his True Form has Malice's DNA written all over it. now, I can finally launch Malicial Prison."
