Chapter 4: Prelude to the Summit War
[Jotaro Kujo: …You can call me JoJo. @Borsalino, can you help us when the time comes? I'll offer any reward you want.]
Under normal circumstances, Jotaro Kujo wouldn't ask a stranger for help, even if he were facing a formidable enemy like Dio Brando.
However, this battle was directly tied to his mother's life. To completely break the curse at its root, he had to eliminate Dio Brando.
Although in the uploaded version of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3, he ultimately defeated Dio, why refuse a safer alternative?
[Borsalino: Ah, of course. After all, I bear the name of justice as a Marine. As for the reward… just leave the spoils to me.]
[Jotaro Kujo: Deal! When can you come?]
[Borsalino: Once you arrive in Egypt, post the mission in the chat. I'll head over then.]
In the One Piece world, Borsalino, who had been slacking off throughout the meeting, let out a yawn.
He glanced behind him, where Nami was scribbling furiously in her notebook, and a hint of anticipation appeared on his face.
The chance to travel to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's world and beat Dio to a pulp? That sounded way more interesting than taking down some random pirates.
Besides, taking out pirates barely earned him a bonus. It wasn't exactly an enticing motivation for Borsalino.
[Orochimaru: @Borsalino Heh… Kizaru-kun, before you completely eliminate Dio Brando, could you leave me some of his flesh and body tissues? In exchange, I will offer a suitable reward.]
[Borsalino: Sure. Get the payment ready.]
Borsalino wasn't worried about Orochimaru failing to provide something worthwhile.
He wasn't sure which version of Orochimaru was in the chat, but as long as it wasn't the childhood version, he was bound to have plenty of interesting things.
At worst, Borsalino could just wait until Orochimaru had something valuable and claim his payment later.
[Random Passerby Who Wants to Hug Luo Feng's Thigh: This is great! With Kizaru-senpai as backup, no matter how cunning Dio is, he won't escape.]
[Ai Haibara: You're that confident?]
[Random Passerby Who Wants to Hug Luo Feng's Thigh: Let me put it this way—if Kizaru-senpai were in your world, and if he felt like it, he could turn Tokyo into ruins in the time it takes you to drink afternoon tea.]
[Ai Haibara: …You make it sound like he's some kind of kaiju villain from Kamen Rider.]
[Random Passerby Who Wants to Hug Luo Feng's Thigh: Compared to Kizaru-senpai, kaiju monsters are nothing.]
What followed was a barrage of exaggerated praise for Kizaru.
Even though Borsalino himself hadn't said much, his reputation within the chat group kept rising.
In reality, 'Random Passerby Who Wants to Hug Luo Feng's Thigh' wasn't just a diehard fan. He had his own agenda—by hyping up Kizaru now, if he ever found himself in danger, surely the "big boss" wouldn't just sit back and watch, right?
Even in a world like Swallowed Star, where power levels skyrocketed in the later stages, Kizaru would be practically invincible in the early game. If he could latch onto such a powerful figure, at least his safety would be guaranteed.
Unfortunately for him, this Borsalino wasn't the real "Kizaru." If it had been the original Kizaru, he might have helped just to save face. But this version of Borsalino wasn't so easily swayed.
While Borsalino was multitasking between the chat and the real world, the Marine Headquarters meeting was finally getting to the main topic.
"Fleet Admiral Sengoku, is it really wise to risk a full-scale war with the Whitebeard Pirates over Fire Fist Ace?"
A Marine Vice Admiral sitting near Admiral Aokiji spoke up.
Not every Marine was as extreme as Admiral Akainu, who wanted to eradicate all pirates at any cost.
Even within the Marines—who operated under the banner of justice—opinions on pirates were divided into two factions: the Hawk Marines and the Dove Marines.
The Hawks were aggressive, believing that all pirates were beyond redemption and that the Marines should use the strongest methods to wipe them out—collateral damage be damned.
The Doves, on the other hand, were more conservative. They believed that the Marines' duty was to protect civilians and uphold justice. Sacrificing innocent lives in the name of defeating pirates was irresponsible.
The two factions were represented by Akainu and Aokiji, respectively. Meanwhile, those who remained neutral—neither fully siding with the Hawks nor the Doves—rallied behind Admiral Kizaru.
Privately, or at least in front of Nami, Borsalino referred to his faction as the "Slackers."
The Vice Admiral who had spoken up was part of the Dove faction.
He wasn't against fighting pirates, but from his perspective, provoking a war with the Whitebeard Pirates over Fire Fist Ace was not a rational decision.
If Whitebeard's forces retaliated in the New World, what then?
Even if the Marine bases in the New World could hold them off, who was to say that other pirate crews wouldn't take advantage of the chaos and cause trouble?
"That is precisely what we're here to discuss…"
Sengoku took a deep breath.
Even though more than a decade had passed, his voice instinctively grew solemn as he spoke the next name.
"Fire Fist Ace, the Second Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates… His real name is Gol D. Ace! He is the son of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger! His bloodline carries the sins of the past!"
As soon as the words left Sengoku's mouth, the previously quiet conference room erupted into chaos.
Even Akainu and Kuzan (Aokiji) showed expressions of shock.
Gol D. Roger.
Even after all these years, the man who had single-handedly ushered in the Great Pirate Era was still a taboo figure in the minds of many Marines.
And now, Sengoku was saying that Fire Fist Ace was his son.
Coupled with the fact that Whitebeard—who had once been both a rival and an ally to Roger—had taken Ace under his wing, it was impossible not to speculate on the implications.
"The Pirate King, huh…"
Borsalino sighed.
So, Vice Admiral Garp's long-kept secret was finally out.
"Borsalino-san… do you think Fire Fist Ace knows where the Pirate King's treasure is hidden?"
As the Marine officers in the conference room buzzed with discussion, Nami cautiously leaned toward Borsalino, her large, beautiful eyes already sparkling with the thought of treasure.
"Ah… well, I don't think he does."
Borsalino's mouth twitched slightly.
He made a mental note to keep a close eye on this greedy little cat burglar.
