Chapter 215: The Tour
A flash of white glow appeared suddenly and was gone just as fast.
"You should be fine now," Derrick said.
"Thanks, I..." Rex stood up and stretched around.
His wounds were now fully healed, and he felt as good as new.
If Derrick joined the team, they would be invincible, Rex thought to himself.
"Derrick, I heard you talking about something happening. Mind if you elaborate on that?" Lukas asked, trying to see if he could get more information about what had happened years ago.
Derrick gave out a sigh and stared blankly ahead of him.
Memories started flooding back into his mind.
In a canyon, a few men and women stood marveling at the majestic view that mother nature had created.
"Help me take a photo. Make sure I look my best." Athena handed Derrick her camera and said.
"Didn't we just take a group photo?" Derrick shrugged and said.
"You don't understand." Athena shook her head and replied.
Derrick took the camera with Matthew and Lawrence standing by his side.
They looked at what Derrick was doing closely.
"No. Derrick, set the exposure higher," Lawrence pointed at one of the settings and said.
Matthew frowned and pushed Lawrence's finger away. "Let little bro here do his job. Cut him some slack, will you."
"I'm just trying to teach him how to do things." Lawrence wasn't too pleased and he refuted.
"Hong, where are you going?" Another person in the group called out to someone getting further away.
"Sam, am I seeing things?" Hong turned around and said, pointing to a red dot slowly expanding out in the distance.
"Hey, everyone. Look at that... What the hell is that?" Sam turned around and glanced at the others, trying to see if they were also looking at the same thing.
"What?" Derrick, Matthew and Lawrence glanced over in Sam's direction.
"You guys helping me take my picture or what?" Athena was getting impatient, and she came over to where Derrick and the others were.
She froze when she saw what was happening out in the distance.
The red dot was now a sphere, and it wasn't stopping.
"Let's have a look. We might be one of the first to discover something important," Lawrence said excitedly.
Athena nodded enthusiastically.
Derrick glanced over at Matthew.
"No. We better call the authorities. It might be dangerous," Matthew shook his head.
"Tsk." Lawrence wasn't too convinced and said, "Think about it. All the fame, getting on shows and telling them how we discovered something new."
"I'm not so sure," Matthew said and glanced at Hong and Sam.
"What do you guys think? It looks dangerous, doesn't it?" he said, trying to get them on his side.
"Nah. I'm with Lawrence. I already got the book title for it," Hong said.
"What? I'm thinking about movie adaptations already." Sam was even more ambitious.
As young and adventurous adults, who could reject such temptations of fame and excitement.
"That's it then, we are going," Lawrence decided and glanced over at Matthew.
"I'm driving the car over. Stay here and wait for us if you want to."
"Fine. I'll go with you," Matthew finally relented.
Derrick sighed and nodded his head.
With that, they got onto their off-road car and slowly made their way towards the red glow.
The red glow was even more impressive as they got nearer to the spot where it originated.
The afternoon sky was dyed in a tint of red.
Their faces were also seemingly red from the red glow.
"Do you feel itchy?" Derrick asked and scratched his neck.
"Now that you mention it." The others also started to feel the same.
"It must be the dust." Lawrence didn't think much of it and covered his nose and mouth with a scarf.
Athena kept snapping photos of the magnificent sky.
Vroom.
The engine of the off-road car sputtered and went silent.
They'd arrived to where the red glow originated.
On the ground there was a huge crater created by something.
It stretched as far as the eye could see.
"Wow. Haven't seen something like this before," Hong said and he got close to the edge of the crater.
Sam got close to him and accidentally brushed against him.
"What are you doing! Argh..." Hong took a step forward.
He tried vigorously to stop the forward motion with his arms swinging to the back.
It was, however, not enough and Hong slid down into the crater from where he was standing.
"Hong!" Sam shouted and reached out his hands trying to grab onto Hong's.
But it was too late.
Hong was at the bottom of the crater twenty feet down.
"I'm all right," Hong replied when he stood back up on his feet.
He glanced around and saw something in the middle of the crater.
"There's something over there," Hong shouted excitedly and pointed in the direction.
"Wait for us," Lawrence and the others said when they saw that Hong was safe.
The decline of the wall of the crater wasn't too steep, and they could climb back up at any time.
One by one, they slid down into the crater.
Matthew and Derrick hesitated, but they knew that it was best if they joined them.
Both wouldn't want to be standing out here alone.
Who knows what they might encounter.
Once they were on the ground of the crater, they saw what Hong was excited about.
Something was giving out a glittering glow.
Like the reflection of a jewel.
This intrigued Lawrence even more.
"Looks like we are about to get rich," he said and glanced at Athena. "Take more pictures. This might be our chance."
They started to walk towards the glitter with excitement.
"I need my hair done for the interviews. I can't be looking like this."
Athena said as she walked and glanced at the photos she had taken on the camera's screen.
She saw something in the picture she was looking at, and she held the camera closer to her face, trying to look at it more clearly.
There was a shimmer of dark shadows and black dots in the photo.
