I Have Great Voyage Game

Chapter 13

Do What You Want to Do

Pfft!

After a few breaths, Roger’s game character faithfully executed the skillful swordplay, and the Guardian Dreadful Fiend was defeated.

After the battle, Roger quickly collected the spoils. The items dropped by the Dreadful Fiend remained the same, with no changes.

However, before he could count the spoils, he heard Old Nielsen’s worried voice from above.

[Roger, are you okay?]

After confirming that there were no other hidden monsters around, Roger responded to Old Nielsen, signaling him to come down.

Soon, Old Nielsen slid down from the hole above.

After taking a glance around, Old Nielsen noticed the corpse of the Dreadful Fiend on the ground and was shocked.

Seeing this, an exclamation mark appeared above his head.

[Did you just kill this monster?]

Old Nielsen couldn’t believe it. Roger had come down from above in less than three minutes. If it weren’t for the blood still oozing from the Dreadful Fiend’s corpse, Old Nielsen wouldn’t have had this suspicion.

Roger nodded and pointed to a crack in the nearby wall. The entrance to this crack was small, but inside was a small space. It could be vaguely seen through the unknown glowing crystal in front of the cave that there was a skeleton inside.

[Old Nielsen, maybe you should take a look at that.]

Upon hearing this, Old Nielsen, without further questioning about the monster, trembled and quickly walked to the crack in the wall, then struggled to squeeze inside.

Old Nielsen found something familiar on the skeleton.

Instantly, tears welled up uncontrollably.

[Holly…]

Old Nielsen held the skeleton, unable to speak through his tears.

Roger remained silent.

There was no doubt that this was the skeleton of Old Nielsen’s wife, Holly. It was clear that after exploring this area, Holly was attacked by the Terrifying Monster and ended up fleeing into this crack, only to be trapped and die inside.

Roger let out a sigh in his heart.

While he could change Old Nielsen’s death by reloading a save file, it was evident that Holly had been dead for a long time, and it was beyond his power to change that.

At this moment, Old Nielsen’s pain was perhaps even greater than being killed by the Terrifying Monster…

After a long time, Old Nielsen finally trembled to his feet, wiping away his tears and collecting Holly’s remains.

Then, he looked towards the wall behind the crack, seeming to have discovered something.

[Roger, give me the Pearl Lamp.]

Old Nielsen took the Pearl Lamp from Roger’s hand and illuminated the wall.

—Text carved on the wall—

[Nielsen, old man, I’m not sure if you can see these words, but I always felt that I should leave something behind before I die.]

[We have experienced many things together, had many possessions, and lost many things.]

[I loved adventure and exploration, enjoyed thrills and dangers, but I knew that you didn’t like these things. What you cared about the most was being by my side. You even pushed yourself to overcome your fear of the sea and learn to swim.]

[I am truly proud to have such a husband and life partner.]

[But it seems I couldn’t be with you, with Lina…]

[I miss you, Nielsen. I regret so much…]

Old Nielsen cried in sorrow, releasing all the suppressed emotions and longing that had accumulated over the years.

Holly was someone who was passionate about adventure, and she never regretted her own adventures. This was the first and last time she regretted.

The sea showed no mercy to anyone.

………….

Although the ending is not satisfactory, Old Nielsen’s years of searching have finally paid off.

Instead of immediately counting the loot or exploring the cave, Roger helped Old Nielsen bring Holly’s body back to Sea Serpent Island for burial.

Old Nielsen placed a tombstone near his small wooden house. Sunflowers could be seen around the house at all times.

Roger informed Lina of the news, and she hurriedly arrived. When she saw the small tombstone, her eyes turned red.

The two sat in front of Holly’s grave.

“This might be considered good news,” Lina said.

“I finally don’t have to look at the sea every day…” She paused for a moment and added, “Because you’re here with me.”

Old Nielsen let out a relieved smile and lifted his cup, taking a sip.

Lina quietly wept, embracing her grandfather.

Roger felt a lump in his throat as he witnessed the scene.

After a long time, Old Nielsen seemed to come back to his senses. He held Lina’s hand and walked towards Roger.

Roger looked puzzled.

Old Nielsen patted Roger’s shoulder and said, “Roger, you’re a good kid. I trust you with Lina.”

“Ah?” Roger exclaimed in surprise. He couldn’t believe that the old man was suddenly giving him his granddaughter.

I know that completing NPC quests in the game rewards you, but giving away a person like this… Isn’t it a bit too much?

Roger’s eye twitched.

“Grandpa, what are you talking about?” Lina asked, her face filled with confusion. She never expected her grandfather to suddenly give her away.

“Child, I know that you’ve always wanted to sail on the sea,” Old Nielsen said.

“You have the same desire for adventure and exploration as your grandmother. I can see right through you.”

“Roger is a good kid, and I trust him. Sail with him, and I’ll be at ease.”

Fortunately, it wasn’t what Roger and Lina had imagined.

However, Lina shook her head.

“No, Grandpa, I don’t want to sail on the sea. It’s too dangerous out there,” Lina said.

“I just want to stay on Sea Serpent Island.”

Old Nielsen smiled at her response. He understood Lina’s thoughts very well.

“Child, listen to me,” he said.

“Everyone has their own journey and destination in life.”

“I know you’re a good kid who wants to take care of me.”

“But now, I’ve found my own destination.”

With that, Old Nielsen turned around and looked softly at Holly’s grave before turning to Lina.

“…And you need to start your own journey.”

“Don’t worry about me.”

“If I prevent you from having what you should have in life because of me, I won’t be happy even in death.”

Old Nielsen gently patted Lina’s head.

“So, go boldly on your journey, child.”

“Do what you want to do.”

After hearing Old Nielsen’s words, Lina fell silent.

Old Nielsen was right. Lina had always yearned for the sea.

But Old Nielsen was her only family.

Lina couldn’t bear to leave Old Nielsen alone on Sea Serpent Island.

So, she decided to fulfill her duty to Old Nielsen and then embark on her own journey.

But her grandfather had already seen through her thoughts.

“But, Grandpa…” Lina looked worried.

Before she could finish her sentence, Old Nielsen raised his hand.

“Lina, you’re a grown child now. It’s time for you to make your own decisions.”

“Of course, no matter which path you choose, I’ll support you.”
