I have a wildlife zoo

Chapter 278 Post-meal Exercise

After dinner!

Fang Ye and Lan Li walked home leisurely, hand in hand.

The corners of Fang Ye's mouth curved up into a smile as he suggested, "Should we do some post-dinner exercise?"

Lan Li blushed slightly, "What kind of exercise?"

Fang Ye said, "It's where you hold a stick, and we..."

"Ah?" Lan Li, feeling somewhat frightened and nervous at his words, said, "But won't it attack me? I'm still a little scared of it!"

Fang Ye pinched her soft hand reassuringly, "It's okay, it's not the first time you've seen it!"

Lan Li hesitated for a moment and shook her head, "You do it, I'm not very familiar with this, I'm afraid I won't do it well."

With a gentle voice, Fang Ye said, "It's okay, everyone starts off unskilled until they get better!"

Lan Li said embarrassingly, "Then, if I don't do well, you won't mind, okay?"

Fang Ye patted his chest and chuckled, "I definitely won't!"

So the two went to the veterinary hospital's rescue center at the back and came to the cage where Chocolate lived.

At that moment, Chocolate was squatting on the perch in the middle of the cage, looking like a plump brownish-yellow ball, with half an eye open resting peacefully.

Seeing Fang Ye come in, both of Chocolate's eyes opened wide, staring at him with bright, keen eyes.

"Hoo hoo?"

It called out with some happiness!

Recently, Chocolate's behavior had improved from before. Explore hidden tales at empire

Physically, it was perfectly healthy, yet stubbornly unwilling to leave.

Fang Ye guessed that it might have been Frightened by the terrifying two-legged creatures surrounding it in the school, it had probably been scared stiff!

Then, being rescued and receiving the soothing skill from him, it had gained a sense of security from a state of extreme fear.

Add to that his Heart of Nature passive and his Druidic affinity for animals, it had developed a dependency on him.

Another reason was beef!

This was something Chocolate had never tasted before; it's a completely different texture from the usual mice, like a child tasting the simultaneously sweet and spicy flavors of a spicy snack for the first time, just too exhilarating, wishing it could eat it in every meal.

But its genetic programming for food was still mice; after the novelty wore off, beef lost its appeal.

It used to be that if you tossed a white mouse at its feet, it wouldn't even give it a glance.

But lately, when a mouse is thrown in, Chocolate would catch it and eat.

After noticing this, they started mixing beef with the white mice during feeding.

Now, to release Chocolate into the wild, the most critical task was to reduce its dependency on humans.

In Chocolate's cage, a new feeding chute was installed so humans didn't have to go in; food could be poured in from the outside through the chute.

This greatly reduced human contact!

The feeding was also done irregularly, sometimes more, sometimes less, to decrease its expectation for food.

With a bit more training, it should be ready for release into the wild.

Fang Ye used his Eye of Observation to take a look.

[Eurasian Eagle-Owl: Chocolate

Mood: Calm/Relaxed]

This mood was definitely a problem!

Seeing humans should make it feel scared, to know to stay away, then it could live well in the wild.

He signaled to Lan Li, "You can start now!"

With a laundry pole-sized bamboo stick in hand, Lan Li hesitated, "Should I really do it?"

Fang Ye said decisively, "Just scare it and that's it!"

So Lan Li raised the bamboo stick and poked it slowly towards Chocolate on the perch.

Chocolate looked puzzled, not knowing what this was supposed to accomplish.

After being prodded in the sweater a couple of times, she became somewhat guarded and moved to stand off to the side.

Bending down, her body gradually swelled up, turning into a fluffy, big ball as she glared at Lan Li.

Fang Ye shook his head and said, "That reaction isn't intense enough. You have to knock on the perch twice and scare it into flying away."

"Oh!"

Lan Li complied and obediently did as told, tapping the perch with a bamboo pole with a clatter!

Chocolate flapped her wings silently and soared up, flying into a corner at the edge of the enclosure.

Fang Ye commanded, "Keep going, we need to play the villain through and through!"

So Lan Li walked over again, extending the bamboo pole to scare Chocolate. Forced into a frenzy, Chocolate flew back and forth in the enclosure, finally stopping to glare at Lan Li, completely ruffled and furiously clicking her beak, producing a loud noise.

With that attitude, she was definitely cursing Lan Li's ancestors.

Turning her head to Fang Ye, she cooed, "Coo coo!"

Zookeeper!

There's a bully chasing and hitting me! Chase her away quickly!

However, seeing Fang Ye standing with his arms crossed over his chest, watching everything with indifference and no intention to intervene, the little owl was filled with confusion, "Zookeeper, why are you just standing there and watching!"

Lan Li reached out with the bamboo pole to knock again, and Chocolate flew toward Fang Ye!

Yet Fang Ye silently moved aside once more.

Having failed to get help, Chocolate's heart filled with sorrow and disappointment, "Zookeeper, have you truly betrayed me? Aren't we companions?"

Fang Ye, through the Eye of Observation, saw the change in Chocolate's emotions and nodded to himself.

He said to Lan Li, "Alright, that's enough scaring for now, let's go. Don't be too harsh all at once, we'll come back the day after tomorrow and continue the scaring."

"Oh!"

Fang Ye and Lan Li left the enclosure, leaving Chocolate alone on the perch, looking at Fang Ye's retreating back with sorrow.

How could this happen... Why! Why!

Flapping her wings pitifully, she returned to her nest.

Lan Li, arm in arm with Fang Ye, felt a tad downcast, "Eh, seeing Chocolate curse me wasn't very pleasant."

Fang Ye smiled and said, "Just think, this is so she can fly freely in the beautiful night sky in the future, as a carefree spirit. Then you won't feel upset!"

Rescued wild animals are different from animals kept in a zoo!

Animals in a zoo need to establish trust with their keepers, to reduce fear of humans, so they don't feel too stressed under the gaze of visitors.

Rescued animals that will be released back into the wild are better off being wary of humans; they must remember to keep their distance from people to avoid harm or capture as much as possible.

...

The morning sunshine was bright and beautiful.

After a meeting, Fang Ye was about to inspect the exhibits when he received a call.

Glancing at the caller ID, it was Old Wang from the Guanhu Branch Station.

Without giving it much thought, he answered with a laugh, "Officer Wang, what's up? Another wild boar incident?"

Old Wang's voice came through, surprised, "Eh, you already know?"

Fang Ye scratched his head, "I'm kidding! So it's really a boar?"

Turns out a wild boar had broken into a hospital!

This time Fang Ye didn't go; instead, he sent Lin Ying and Meng Shi. They handled it adeptly, anesthetizing and bringing back the boar.

After the return, Lin Ying reported that the hospital security had attempted to capture the boar, resulting in some minor injuries for the people involved.

Well, at least it happened at the hospital, so they got treated immediately.

Following the tea-flavored boar incident, Fang Ye had talked about how to deal with wild boars in a live broadcast and had Lan Li compile the information into an article for the public account. It seems that the message still isn't getting through well enough.

This time, the hospital boar didn't just scrape a leg like the tea-flavored boar; its face was swollen.

It seemed to have hit a railing, so it definitely had to stay in the zoo for a while.
