Chapter 1562: Eternal Life
The Great Daoist Brush Master turned to look at the Demon God, only to be met by a massive fist radiating overwhelming demonic energy.
The Demon God had suddenly attacked him, even though he was supposed to be on his side.
The Great Daoist Brush Master was greatly alarmed. He hadn't expected the Demon God to suddenly turn against him.
How could this be possible?
There was no time to think further, as Demon God's fist was already right in front of him. He had no choice but to abandon breaking the seal. He thrust out a finger, summoning Dao seals.
Boom!
As the Dao seals shattered one after another, the Demon God's fist forcibly blasted the Great Daoist Brush Master hundreds of meters away.
When he stopped, the Great Daoist Brush Master's expression was a bit grim.
"Why?" he asked, staring at the Demon God.
The Vast God was also surprised by the sudden betrayal.
The Demon God smiled. "What do you think?"
The Great Daoist Brush Master stared at him, silent.
The Demon God continued with a smile. "Great Daoist Brush Master, when I asked if you could kill Ye Guan, you said no. That means even if you win, you still can't kill him.
"In other words, the power behind him absolutely surpasses yours. Why wouldn't I choose to stand on the side of someone who is more promising?"
"Hahahaha, great!" The Great Daoist Brush Master laughed. "This is just awesome!"
He hadn't expected that an answer would lead to the Demon God's sudden betrayal.Clearly, being honest doesn't pay.
The Vast God asked, "Is this what you've decided?"
The Demon God said, "Yes. To be honest, I've had enough of being someone else's pawn. Though you and I, from the moment we believed in the Divine Will, we became pawns. We can't escape that fate... but this time, even if I'm just a pawn, I want to choose a better player."
The Vast God nodded. "Alright."
The Demon God grinned, his right hand slowly clenching into a fist. In an instant, an overwhelming wave of demonic energy surged from him.
In the Boundary of Truth and Illusion, he cultivated the Demonic Dao. His strength was in no way inferior to that of the Vast God, though right now, his own seal had yet to be lifted.
Ye Guan opened his palm, and the Divine Seal appeared in his hand. He began chanting the incantation taught to him by Zong Xin, and soon, the seal on Demon God began to unravel.
The Vast God's eyes immediately narrowed.
Ye Guan then raised the Divine Seal sky high, and his voice boomed like thunder across the sky as he declared, "I am the master of the Divine Seal, and I speak for the Divine. Anyone who places their faith in me from this moment forward... shall live forever!"
Zong Xin was dumbfounded. "The Divine Seal doesn't have that kind of power! Don't talk nonsense—"
Halfway through, he cut himself off, as he realized that Ye Guan was bluffing!
Bathed in the glow of the Divine Seal, Ye Guan looked like the embodiment of the Divine Will.
Everyone present was stunned.Eternal... life?
They were all mighty cultivators with long lifespans, but that was far from true immortality. Their lives were still finite.Yet that guy has actually claimed that by believing in him, we will gain eternal life. Is he playing a joke on us? Does the Divine Seal really possess such power?
"Ye Guan, what kind of nonsense are you spouting?!" the Great Daoist Brush Master said, walking over. He was so infuriated by Ye Guan's words that he scoffed, "Eternal life? This thing can grant eternal life? Did it tell you that itself?"
Ye Guan pointed at the Great Daoist Brush Master, "You blasphemous heretic! How dare you question the Divine?!"
The other gods glanced at the Great Daoist Brush Master. They had sworn faith to the Divine Will...
The Great Daoist Brush Master laughed incredulously. "Ye Guan, don't you dare act like you're some kind of god in front of me. I know exactly what you're like, and I know you better than your wives!"
Ye Guan ignored him completely and turned to the gods hidden in the shadows around them, saying, "All of you, do you really think that by throwing your lives away, you'll gain this Divine Seal?"
The gods fell silent, and the Great Daoist Brush Master frowned.
Ye Guan continued, "You've all been sealed away for so long for this Divine Seal. Hasn't the price been high enough? Allow me to speak bluntly, even if you win, there's only one seal. How will you divide it? Will you have to fight each other again?
"And even if you do fight, can you truly defeat both the Great Daoist Brush Master and the Vast God?"
A deathly silence settled over the place.
The Great Daoist Brush Master snapped, "Ye Guan! Stop your nonsense!"
Ye Guan ignored him again and turned to the Vast God. "Vast God, this battle is between the Great Daoist Brush Master and me. It's a contest of our Daos. I have no grudge against you, nor do I wish to make one.
"Are you truly determined to involve yourself in our struggle?"
The Vast God's eyes narrowed.
Ye Guan turned to the gods and said, "Gentlemen, I have no grudges against all of you. In fact, along my journey, I've even formed good relations with some of you. What's happening today is between the Great Daoist Brush Master and me. I don't wish to make enemies of you.
"If you're willing not to interfere in this matter, I can immediately use this seal to help you break free and grant you your freedom... and I'm willing to share the seal with all of you."
Everyone was stunned. Even the Great Daoist Brush Master was momentarily dumbfounded, but his face quickly stiffened.
Ye Guan held up the Divine Seal. "This seal is the greatest treasure in this place. If any one of us claims it for themselves, it will only bring disaster, as we'll surely be hunted down. Moreover, this seal carries a vast karmic burden.
"No one can hold it alone, so why don't we share that burden?"
One of the gods hidden in the shadows asked, "How would we share it?"
Ye Guan explained, "This seal contains the Divine Will, as well as laws and powers we don't understand yet. We can study it together, and whatever we uncover, we'll share it with each other.
"Of course, to be fair, each person will hold the seal for only a hundred years. I'll take the first hundred years, and then afterward, whoever is strongest will take it for the next hundred years. How does that sound to all of you?"
Silence fell. There were more than twenty gods present! This meant that the last person in line would only have to wait two thousand years to wield the Divine Seal.
For ordinary people, two thousand years was an unthinkable length of time, but for cultivators like them, two thousand years was no more than just a single period of seclusion.
There was no questioning it.
Ye Guan's proposal was very tempting to everyone present.
At last, one of the gods asked, "How can we trust you?"
Ye Guan laughed. "What about this then? Instead of me holding the seal first, I'll let someone else keep it for the first hundred years."
He willed the Divine Seal to drift directly toward the Demon God.
The Demon God was stunned. He had never expected Ye Guan to hand him the Divine Seal! Everyone else was equally as shocked.
The Great Daoist Brush Master stared intently at Ye Guan but said nothing.
Inside the Divine Seal, Zong Xin could not help but sigh with admiration. This young man wasn't just clever; he was exceptionally dangerous. He was young, scheming, and meticulous.
Zong Xin alone knew that without his own endorsement, the Divine Seal was of little use to anyone. Since the Divine Seal's spirit was currently absent, Zong Xin effectively was its "spirit." Gaining his approval was the only way to control it.
What Ye Guan had done showed both genuine trust in the Demon God and also a refusal to place blind faith in anyone, and that was exactly the way it had to be.
One could never fully trust anyone, especially when faced with unimaginable power. In the face of enormous temptation, even family could betray their family, so one had to have a backup plan.
The moment Ye Guan handed the Divine Seal to the Demon God, every god present realized it; Ye Guan was not bluffing. He truly meant to share the Divine Seal.
If he was so willing to share it so openly, why would they fight him?
Ye Guan was correct. There was no real grudge between them. What was the point of a life-or-death struggle?
Besides, even if they were to fight to the death, they wouldn't be able to say for sure if they could obtain the Divine Seal for themselves.
Just then, one of the gods exclaimed, "Young Master Ye, I'm willing to be your friend!"
"Me, too!"
"Count me in!"
Soon, the gods hidden in the shadows voiced their agreement, except for the Vast God.
Ye Guan looked at the Demon God and said, "Senior, please lend the Divine Seal to me for a moment."
The Demon God snapped out of his thoughts and the Divine Seal to Ye Guan.
The Demon God was feeling a plethora of emotions. Initially, he'd chosen Ye Guan simply because he appeared to be backed by a stronger power, but he never imagined that this young man, whom he'd only met once, would trust him so readily.
The Divine Seal was, after all, a Supreme divine artifact! And yet, he handed it over to him without a second thought!
Demon God could not help but smile. He felt even more certain he had made the right choice in backing Ye Guan.
Ye Guan took the Divine Seal and began to release the seals that had bound all the other gods. As the seals unravelled, their auras and strength returned to them.
Then, he turned to the Vast God, whose seal remained intact.
The Vast God was silent for a moment, and then he smiled faintly, saying, "I believe in seeing something until the very end. I will stand with the Great Daoist Brush Master."
The other gods exchanged glances, puzzled. Even the Great Daoist Brush Master was a bit surprised.
"I respect your choice." Ye Guan nodded. He then turned to the Great Daoist Brush Master and said, "If you surrender now, I'll leave your corpse intact for old time's sake."
